Area
Located on the southern edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, the pretty little village of Harome make an idyllic place for a holiday. The duck-filled village pond is the heart of the settlement, and surrounding it are a lovely collection of old stone cottages and two excellent inns - one of which sells local produce. Close by is the prestigious market town of Helmsley with a traditional market square. Packed full of hotels, shops and tea-rooms, Helmsley has its own twelfth century castle whilst English Heritage's Rievaulx Abbey is also close by. Not only is this region full of historic properties, it is also an excellent walking area with dramatic moors to explore and hidden dales and villages to discover. Both the region's capital, York, and the famous seaside town of Scarborough are just an hour's drive away.

Very peaceful setting. A lovely garden. Inside the cottage was very cosy especially in the evening with the log fire burning. Loved the quirkiness and history of the house.

I wanted to stay in a thatched cottage and this was perfect. We didn't' have to travel to the other end of the country to stay in this one. Just wish we'd had longer to stay as there's lots to see and do within a short drive. Quaint and quirky just as I had hoped for, beautiful and peaceful retreat. Rabbits, peacocks and squirrels all around this lovely cottage.

An excellent cottage, really warm and cosy. We would certainly go again. There was a nice garden with plenty of room to relax in. The chairs and table were perfect for alfresco dining.

We enjoyed our stay at Holly Cottage very much. The log fire was a welcome addition on rainy evenings in the comfy sitting room. The rural setting was wonderful and the garden was delightful and beautifully kept as was the house. We loved the general quirkiness and the peacocks opposite. Beautiful area.

Quiet location. No traffic sounds at night and very little in the daytime. Very close to quaint market town with pretty shops and good dining. Very warm with excellent heating and non-stop hot water. Large garden full of birds and rabbits. Fresh eggs from farm opposite.

The cottage was beautifully presented with dining table laid up and tea and fresh milk in the fridge. The cottage was also in a truly beautiful area and we wished that we did not need to leave.

Very pretty large detached thatched property in rural location. Modern well equipped kitchen. Efficient central heating system. Very steep steps to first floor bedrooms and very low door to double bedroom. Bathroom accessed via landing with extremely low slanting ceiling. Found it difficult to access bathroom during the night due to trying not to bang head on low ceilings had to keep landing light on all night for visual access. A message on the kitchen notice board informs occupants that the bathroom and kitchen had to be cleaned and the house vaccuumed throughout on departure we found this quite insulting as we would always leave property in the state we find it. Unfortunately we found the property to be dusty on arrival and wondered if the property was not checked thoroughly before new occupants arrived. The main problem with the property was there was no shower so baths had to be taken instead. Also we were informed by the owners that there was Wi Fi but that was incorrect. Mobile phone reception could not be accessed inside the property but was available in the parking area approx 30 metres away. Would not reccomend this property to anyone with any mobility problems. The house details do inform people of the steep steps and low ceilings however we did not realise how difficult it would be to walk around upstairs with constantly bowed heads to avoid injuring our heads.
