Hollyside Cottage Countryside Cottage description

Holiday home
This property is situated at the end of a row of traditional terraced cottages. From the outside, it blends in well with its picturesque setting, being built from sandstone and having a traditional, red-pantile roof. Inside, exposed beams and an open fire add to its charm and it even has a large garden with a barbecue for the summer months. Two tastefully decorated double bedrooms offer enough sleeping accommodation for up to four people and there is off-road parking available for one car.

Area
Hutton-le-Hole is one of North Yorkshire's most popular villages. The first thing that may strike you about the village is the number of moorland sheep that wander through, hoping to pick up scraps from the many visitors that this beautiful hamlet attracts all summer long. A stream runs through the centre of the village, adding to its chocolate-box appeal and also offers opportunity for a paddle during the hot weather. Just outside Hutton-Le-Hole, you will find one of the most remote pubs in the country: The Lion Inn. Pickering Castle and the North Yorkshire Steam Railway are just a stone's throw away, as is the Ryedale Folk Museum – Yorkshire's leading open-air museum, which hosts a series of special days and events throughout the year.

Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Amenities
Oil central heating with open fire in sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge (no ice box), washing machine, TV, video, DVD player, radio/CD player. Fuel, power and starter pack for open fire inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Travel cot and highchair available. Off road parking for one car. Large, enclosed rear garden with garden furniture and BBQ. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop 3 miles, pub 5 mins walk. The cottage is first class and in a prime location within the village. Lovely private garden to the rear with bench and patio furniture provided. It's well set out with good quality fittings and equipment to make your stay enjoyable. The local pub and tearoom is only a 2 minute walk away and offers free WiFi, which is useful. This is a lovely place to stay and relax with very comfortable surroundings - the open fire in the lounge is a nice feature and gives the cottage a cosy feel. Will definitely return.

Cottage was of a very high quality, equipped with everything you could want and more. Everything was spotless and well cared for. The location was stunning with the Moors on your doorstep which was great as you didn't have to get into a car every day. Our 2 year old loved paddling in the beck that runs at the back of the cottage and through the village, he also loved the sheep that were on the green, who kept looking in through the windows! Good food at the local pubs if you didn't want to cook, and within easy distance for the seaside as well. We couldn't have asked for a nicer, more peaceful place. The owner was really helpful and the welcome tray was a thoughtful surprise as were the toys, books and bear chair which our little boy thoroughly enjoyed for the stay.

July 2007
The general area and location of the cottage could not have been better. We had always planned to return to Hutton le Hole and after 25 years we managed it! The cottage was a real gem and the village was as lovely as we remembered it. The cottage had lovely touches but it was not over done, I particularly liked the sheep both the real ones on the village green and the ornaments and pictures in the cottage. The garden was very sunny a great place to sit in the evenings. Everything was perfect.
Mr Millington
August 2007
The beautiful village location. Nice, secluded garden. A well maintained, cosy cottage.
Mr Mrs Gunner
May 2007
The village is on the moors but close to everything one would want to do. The coast 30 mins away, nearest town 10 mins away. It was lovely to have a welcome from the owner even down to a tray laid to make tea and milk in the fridge plus a welcome bottle of wine and flowers in evey room. We would love to have the cottage again. One real blessing is that there is NOT a mobile signal in the village...bliss!
Mr Mrs Marshall
October 2006
When first entering the cottage the 'extras' - flowers, tea set out for two, whole tin of biscuits! Wine laid out with 2 glasses - made us feel truly welcome and that our comfort mattered. The village location was beautiful. Local village people very welcoming and friendly. Also I found your web-site to be one of the best I have used when navigating for available dates and cottage information. I shall certainly use 'Sykes' to look for cottages in the future.
Mr Ireland
November 2006
Very well equipped cottage in a wonderful location.

......the sign over the back door is a true reflection of Hollyside Cottage, Hutton-le-hole is an attractive, friendly village and a good base for visiting North Yorkshire. It is very well equipped, lovely to arrive to a welcome tray of tea, milk and biscuits and a bottle of wine. We visited with our nine year old granddaughter who enjoyed the garden and the opportunity to paddle in the stream, she looked forward to seeing the sheep each morning. She learnt how to make felt after visiting Moorjocks & Daisies and couldn't wait to show the owner her finished work. Ryedale folk museum was also a winner with her. A beautiful clean well kept cottage which we would happily recommend to our family and friends.

We really enjoyed our short break (3 nights) at Hollyside Cottage in Aug 2015. The cottage is very central in the village; a minute's walk to the 3 teashops and the pub. The cottage is very well furnished and the owners obviously stay here themselves, as they have thought of everything you could need. The garden at the back is a real bonus, with a large patio with table and chairs, where we enjoyed a meal and bottle of wine one night during our stay. We were a little worried about parking as this is a very popular village but the parking is literally right outside the front door and we had no problems at all (it would take a very cheeky person to park that close to someone else's front door!). The 2 double beds are both very low, not a problem to us at all and very comfortable but worth mentioning for less able guests. As holiday cottage owners ourselves we are pretty fussy when we stay in other cottages but we would have no hesitation in staying at Hollyside again. Thanks Karen for letting us stay and hope to stay again.

A very nice cottage (lots of character) for a small party. Well-equipped with plenty of kitchen equipment, games and videos. Complaints are minor -- limited TV channels, indoor dining is difficult with four people, and back garden could do with some pruning. It is on a main street, so the periodic racket of tractors and lorries barreling through Hutton-le-Hole took some getting used to. With that being said, the cottage is in an ideal location in the Moors National Park and centrally located in charming village. Ah, the village... One word of warning -- the sheep, which wander freely and make for wonderful post-cards and snapshots are also real animals. Thus, they leave piles of dung everywhere (joined by competing piles of rabbit pellets). All eyes on the ground when walking through the village because excrement is a constant hazard. I'm afraid by the end of the stay it really grossed me out. I heartily recommend Hollyside cottage, can't say so much about Hutton-le-Hole.

My wife and I booked this cottage months ago based on several reasons - firstly because it was in the right area of the North Yorkshire Moors that we wanted to explore, secondly because of the match it had to our budget and third, because of the glowing reviews that others had left after spending time there. The reviews are absolutely right - it's a gem of a cottage - ideal for two - and it was so cosy with all the "mod cons" that anyone could need. We were delighted to receive our "welcome pack" on arrival - mily, biscuits and even a bottle of wine and the open fire was already made up for our first evening - perfect. The cottage is beautifully appointed - very tastefully decorated with one parking space directly outside. It's a lovely place to come home to after a long walk over the moors or by the coast. Hutton-Le-Hole is a charming little village where the sheep wander up the middle of the street completely unbothered by the tourists. There is so much to see and do in the North Yorkshire Moors area and our only regret was that we ran out of time in the week we had there.....so perhaps this is exactly the excuse we need to go back to this delightful cottage. We're not normally people who tend to go back to the same place more than once but with Hollyside Cottage, we would be pleased to make an exception........

A great little cottage, stayed with my partner and 5 year old son. lots of extra litlle touches make this cottage special, like the decor, tea coffee, biscuits, fresh milk and wine. Also well equipt with lots of dvd and videos and cd's. There is also sky tv with basic freeview channels but if you are a sky customer just bring your viewing card with you then you can have the channels you have at home. There is a pub just over the road that serves lunchtime and evening meals and also the " fish and chip " van parks right opposite the cottage on monday evenings. There is no local shop or mobile phone signal in hutton but there is a stream that runs through the village greeen with my son spent a few hours in. A lovely place and there are many walks on your doorstep and lots of great places to visit. At the cottage the owners have a large file of info with maps and leaflets of surrounding areas and menus for local pubs. We used this daily to help plan our days and found very useful. Whitby scarborough worth visit too. We also went to saltburn on sea near redcar. a quieter seaside town and the fish and chips are to die for. A very pleasant holiday, our first time in a cottage and in yorkshire and would recommend to all. Also sheep right outside your door of a morning now that what i call the countryside

Set on the edge of the North York Moors, Hutton-le-hole is a stunning and very friendly village. The whole village is passionately maintained with good local facilities. Hollyside Cottage is beautifully kept with a charming interior and lovely relaxing garden. Stunning villages close by including Lastingham and Kirkbymoorside. Will hold long memories of a magical time.

Great place to stay to get away from it all (no mobile phone reception!). Despite it's peaceful location, still well situated for trips to local market towns, the Moors and the coast.
