Howe Green Cottage Cottage description

Holiday home
Built from stone, this cottage retains many of its original features, such as a Victorian fireplace and exposed ceiling beams. Today, it offers sleeping accommodation for groups of up to four people, making it an idyllic retreat for a small party of friends or family. To the rear of the property is a well-maintained garden in which you can enjoy a drink or two as the sun sets in the summer months. There is even a small library of books and board games for cosy winter nights, snuggling around the fire.

Area
Kirkbymoorside is an unmistakably Yorkshire town. Blessed with a natural bypass and surrounded by green hills, farmland and villages, it has quiet amenities and shops serving the needs of local people and visitors alike. Kirkbymoorside is mid-way between Helmsley and Pickering, and developed as the gateway to the Moors - the road through the town to the north gives access to the North Yorkshire Moors. The Kirkbymoorside Golf club is highly regarded as one of the finest in North Yorkshire and boasts some of the most unique holes you will ever encounter with breath-taking views. Known as the gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors, Kirkbymoorside is a great starting point for walks or visiting coastal towns like Whitby, Scarborough or Filey. The wealth of abbeys around Kirkbymoorside include Rosedale, Rievaulx, and Byland, all set in the charming North Yorkshire countryside and easily accessible by car.

Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

The perfect cottage to spend the week in. It was very clean, very comfortable and in an excellent location. There is also a very useful box of leaflets/info and walks in the area which we used several times. The owner was very helpful and friendly when arranging the key collection which was simple and hassle free. We would definitely come and stay again!

As with last year, the Cottage was a perfect base for our holiday. This year we took our daughter, son in law and 11 month old grandson with us. The garden and especially the park opposite were a big hit. We would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage as a great place to stay.

A very cosy welcoming cottage, very well placed. The garden was very well laid out and maintained. It felt like a home with all the extra knick-knacks and open fire and yet had all mod cons. Two reception rooms made it very versatile.

The cottage was spotlessly clean and there was a great attention to detail, providing everything you needed, even a pint of milk in the fridge when we arrived! Having the open fire in the evenings was a real bonus too. A beautiful area to explore, there is so much to do! We loved Eden Camp and The Rydale Folk Museum, both near by. Kirkbymoorside is very attractive and offered a great base for our holiday with the local mini-supermarket and post office. For children there is a great park just across the road from the cottage, which our 6 year old loved!

Our first stay at this cottage. very clean and well fitted out. New Carpets due by Xmas after one guest(s) badly stained one/some. Garden large and well maintained by a Gardener. Washing Line no longer usable as Garden shrubbery has grown since the Photos used on various sites were taken. I suggested to the owner that a folding Dryer would be useful but a Washer Dryer is fitted. It is on a quiet road in Kirby Moorside across from a playing field which may be noisy in School Holidays. Only a 200 yard level walk to the Market Place in Kirby Moorside which has a Spar and a Co-op. No big supermarket. Several Tearooms, two of which at least have Wifi. The cottage does not have Internet or Wifi Access. We would definitely stay there again - as seasoned Cottage renters this is way up near the very top of the list of the best we have stayed at. Hate to give such a glowing reference as it may make it difficult to book it again! WE saw and heard Barn owls in the Garden and a Raptor, ? a Sparrowhawk crash landed on the lawn near to where I was sitting when it just just missed a pigeon and hit a hedge - it stayed on the lawn, regathering its dignity for a magical minute or two before taking off again. Low local light pollution makes star gazing good too! Pickering and Helsley Castles, Riveaulx and Byland Abbeys well worth visits as is Nunnington Hall (in Season) and the North York Moors Railway runs Steam from Pickering to Whitby and back. The Hutton le Hole Rural Life Museum, sounds boring, but it is fascinating - allow 3 or 4 hours there - and if you recognise lots of the exhibits like we did you know that you are older than you think! We will return!
Mrs West
November 2006
Kirkby Moorside has a great range of local services and trips to Helmsley, Pickering and up onto the moors are all easily accessible. Overall a very nice cottage. Thanks.

We enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable cottage which was warm and had everything we needed for an ideal base. There is plentiful parking and it is only a couple of minutes from the shops and pubs. Helmsley is only a few miles away and it is within easy reach of York, Scarborough and attractions such as Castle Howard and Eden Camp which are well worth a visit. The cottage was lovely.Set in a very pretty village with all the amenities we needed. We stayed in Feburary but the cottage was warm and cosy. Our 2 boys really enjoyed themselves and didnt mention their computers for a week. The cottage had a great kitchen and the bedrooms were really nice. Our only complaint was that the dining chairs were a bit ricketty!! We enjoyed days out in Scarborough and Whitby. The moors were amazing with snow on them.

September 2010
We loved the cottage. It took us a little while to find the fridge but all's well that ends well (it was hidden in a cupboard). Scenery was beautiful and the garden was immaculate. A lovely, quiet place on the edge of Kirkbymoorside. The only slight annoyance was the shower was rather weak and we couldn't really get a good flow of hot water. Other than that, a perfect holiday cottage in a beautiful town. Try the fish and chips from The Lemon Tree - superb. Overall, a wonderful holiday with easy access to some great tourist attractions. Recommended!

December 2009
Excellent service and always obliging to help with further information. The cottage was very clean, and the bed extremely comfy. The garden was immaculately kept and a pleasure to sit in. The town had all available shops required and very close by. The only gripe we had was the plumbing in the cottage. It had two toilets and neither worked very well.
