Booking last minute, we were most fortunate that Kettle Knowe was free. Serendipity is not something I often come across but we were fortunate in many ways in finding the cottage. My wife has very severe mobility problems spending a lot of time in a wheelchair, so it was with some trepidation that we booked the cottage, however, although not specially designed for people with restricted mobility, she managed quite well. She particularly enjoyed being able to sit out on the terrace of an evening and savour the scenery, wild life and sunsets. We enjoyed star gazing, seeing the Milky Way clearly for the first time in many a year. The grandchildren were 'gobsmacked' at the number of stars and were very impressed when we observed several satellites tracking overhead. Would we come again? Yes. What would we change about the cottage? Absolutely nothing!

This is a lovely, thoughtfully furnished/finished house in a very peaceful location and was ideal for our group. Big thanks to the owners for creating such a comfortable and beautiful place to stay.

I stayed at this cottage the first week of August, with family. the house is huge and has a beautiful living room and kitchen. it does seem to be in the middle of nowhere but the views and walks are worth it, the cottage is very secluded, no neighbours so you can make as much noise as you like. very large front and back garden, with a cow field right in front of the gardens which the children loved. we also brought two dogs who was in their element, lots of fields nearby. the house has lots of extras, DVD player, ironing board, children's games, initial supplies i.e. tea, coffee etc. if I had any negatives it would be the walk in shower has a very poor draining system and the shower overflowed every time without fail. it could be slightly cleaner i.e. light fittings etc. and the gardens could do with a little work. overall a beautiful cottage and we really enjoyed our stay. Galloway forest is a brilliant walk definitely recommended.

Beautiful house, finished to high standard. Good location, skies were particularly clear and the Milky Way was spotted on three of the seven nights we stayed. Birds and deer were spotted from the garden and surrounding countryside. The Lowlands were particularly beautiful at dawn. Castle Douglas had excellent amenities, paddle boats and mini golf, an ice cream shop. Threave Castle and Gardens took up a day each before we toured the wider area- Wigtown, etc. wish we had had more time just to sit and enjoy the house as it was beautiful and homely.
