Kingfisher description

Holiday home
Kingfisher is a detached, timber-built, single storey Scandinavian lodge, on the peaceful southern side of the Cotswold Water Park, just 4 miles from Cirencester in Gloucestershire. This cottage is able to sleep six people in three bedrooms (one double, one twin and one with bunk beds) and it also has a family bathroom. The rest of the accommodation is made up of an open plan living area with a fitted kitchen, a dining area and a sitting room. Outside the cottage is a veranda with a gas BBQ and an outdoor dining area, shared use of a 1 acre lawn and off road parking for one car. With all manner of watersports available on site, Kingfisher is in a great location for a fun filled holiday.

Lake Pochard nestles in the southern section of The Cotswold Water Park, situated in the heart of the Cotswolds. The Cotswold Water Parkis an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covering 40 square miles and made up of over 130 lakes surrounded by villages, historic market towns and an area of water larger than the Norfolk broads. The Cotswold Water Park is Britain's largest, and offers a wide range of activities including boating, water-skiing, fishing, cycling, walking, golf and horse riding. Also on the park can be found tennis courts, a croquet lawn, a children's play area and for nature lovers, the Water Park offers an abundance of bird and animal life on the three nature reserves, which can be observed throughout the year. Open water swimming is available at two of the lakes within the park, while the Lakeside Brasserie and Gym with sauna and spa are well worth a visit.

Visitors to the Cotswolds have long treasured memories of charming towns and villages built from the famous honey-coloured stone, it now boasts a thriving community of contemporary artists working from studios and shops throughout the area.

Very spacious, warm accommodation. Easy to use shower and a bath that filled quickly. Plenty of pillows and towels. Well equipped kitchen. Very peaceful surroundings.

The outlook from the veranda (lake, herons, wildlife) was lovely and with little ambient light at night, the stars were beautiful. The lodge was well located to access the amenities of the Water Park and surrounding Cotswold area. The accommodation was very clean, spacious and well maintained. We would go back to this lodge and area again for a short break in the future.

Our cabin felt very homely, we settled in straight away and the on-site facilities were excellent. The cafe manager was very friendly and helpful, as were the rest of the site staff.

The freedom for the kids and the fact they could run in and out without leaving mess!

The cabin was spacious and bright. The setting was lovely being next to the water. The kids enjoyed having other children to play with on the shared lawn. Older children enjoyed having access to the cafe with internet access but this was very low key and in keeping with the surroundings. Lovely balcony to sit on and the use of a barbecue. Cabin was simple and minimalist but had everything that was needed.

What a brilliant location! Weather was wonderful, which did help. We actually eat every meal, including breakfast out on the terrace during our stay - we didn't sit at the dinning table nor was the oven used!! the BBQ was used all the time. Cabin is wonderfully spacious - it would have been handy to have a second bathroom with 6 of us - and I'm sure the layout could be changed to include this in the future. Only suggestion I would have is to introduce recycling bins on site - there was no bins for glass/paper etc. Have already recommended location to friends who have booked for Easter 2012!

We stayed here as part of a large group, we had all the lodges as it was a weekend for a wedding nearby. Firslty the area is beautiful, right on the lake with the geese, ducks and swans wandering about. There is a cafe on site and whilst I didn't eat there several of the party did and the breakfast was good. There is car parking on site and a Tesco Extra only about 10 minutes away. On arrival there was some tea and coffee (like you would get in a hotel). There is a large gas BBQ on the veranda of all lodges and outside seating. The lodges themselves are a good size and have all basic needs. If you have a three bedroom you get a washing machine but the two bedrooms don't. All have dishwashers. The furnishings are OK and the beds comfortable. I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it as a base rather than a place to remain for the duration. However it gets 3 stars due to the fact it is quite basic and the following things let it down a little and if these were changed it would make a huge difference. You literally get exactly what is needed for four people or six people dependent on lodge. so only 4 glasses, 4 plates, 4 knives etc. Not a huge thing but it meant constant washing up or if a breakage you were then left short. The lodges provide towels but if you want anything bigger than a bath mat take your own. The shower is gravity defying, electric, no power and a very light touch of water. Huge amount of midges, I realise there is nothing that can be done about this but if they had nets or barriers at the windows you would be able to open them, as it was we couldn't open the doors or windows as there were so many and the weather was warm. However I would go back and it was certainly value for money.

We had such a lovely stay here. It is situations in such a lovely area, looking out on to the lake, with geese, ducks and rabbits as visitors :) So relaxing and peaceful. The outdoor Bbq we used for every meal and eat outside which so lovely, especially in Britain, but then again the weather was good. The cabin we also loved, spacious and had everything we needed. Brilliant that it is dog friendly too. Unfortunately our dog passed away while we were here :( So it's a bitter sweet time for us. But we loved our time here and will definitely be back! Recommend whole heartedly for a quiet relaxing break.

A really good introduction to a holiday lodge. Our problem was that we were ladies in amongst fishermen--a slight change in location would have made this a 5 star holiday!
September 2011
The accomodation was spacious and the location by the lake was good. As this was our first visit instead of going to our normal destination of the Norfolk Broads, we found the comparison by Sykes' description of being a similar destination to the Norfolk Broads, very dissapointing. Most of the lakes in the Cotswold Water Park are privately owned and in many cases cannot even be seen! They are not linked like the Broads and we spoke to a number of locals who were upset about what has happened to the lakes over the past 15 years.
