Lavender Cottage description

Holiday home
Lavender Cottage is a romantic terraced cottage in Askrigg in the Yorkshire Dales. The cottage has a double bedroom, a bathroom and an open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area with open fire. Outside is roadside parking by the church gates, and a shared front garden. Lavender Cottage is a stone's throw from the amenities of the village, and ideally placed for enjoying all the Dales has to offer.

The beautiful village of Askrigg is set in stunning Wensleydale. Askrigg is known to many as the home of Skeldale House where vet James Herriot lived in "All Creatures Great and Small." This breathtaking area is home to many beauty spots including Aysgarth Falls and nearby Semerwater, Yorkshire's only natural lake, which was formed (so legend says) after a weary traveller was refused hospitality from a raging storm by the villagers and so cursed the village to a watery end. There are castles at Bolton and Middleton, the spectacular Hardraw Force, England's highest single drop waterfall at a height of 99 feet and many other market towns and villages to discover. Askrigg is a wonderful village from which to discover this magnificent area and makes a great holiday base.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Heating from electric radiator, convector heater, electric fan heater and open fire. The cottage was ideally situated in a very peaceful location adjacent to the church in the centre of the village of Askrigg. There were numerous short walks (3-4 miles) on the doorstep, most including an opportunity for a Labrador to have a paddle. There were three pubs in the village offering local beers and lovely meals with a shop and deli across the road for provisions.

Ability to access local walks directly from the cottage appreciated. Good selection of eating places in Askrigg. Not using the car is always a bonus to us. Particularly good is The Rowan Tree. Excellent service, food and value. We had awful weather initially but it did mean that the waterfalls were particularly impressive.

A wonderful little cottage, very clean, well equipped with a lovely comfortable bed.The village has 3 pubs a village shop and a deli which sells home made take a way meals. The locals make you feel very welcome. Askrigg is a gateway to many scenic walks and drives and within easy reach of the Lakes.

This cottage had everything needed for our week in Wensleydale. With it not being on the roadside, it certainly provided a very quiet night's sleep with no traffic noise. A few villagers using the footpath past the door during the evening also no problem. There is no dedicated car parking but we soon got used to finding a space at the right time outside the church. So a perfectly adequate accommodation with no complaints from us. Thanks.
