Thiviers, the ‘capital of foie gras’, is 21km south and has many good restaurants and shops selling regional produce, and a good Saturday market. Ideally placed in the northern Dordogne, one hour’s drive from historic Périgueux and its famous cathedral with cupolas, pretty shopping lanes and thrice-weekly market. Don’t miss a visit to the prehistoric caves at Villars, 35km, and attractive towns and châteaux of the Dordogne Valley.
