Little Ash Countryside Cottage description

Holiday home
Little Ash is a single-storey cottage attached to the owners' riverside home, in a tranquil rural setting by the river in Ashreigney, a few miles from Chulmleigh. The cottage has a double bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen and a sitting room with dining area. Outside is off road parking for one car, a private patio with furniture and shared use of areas of the owners' waterside grounds. Little Ash offers a wonderful opportunity for a restful break in stunning rural surroundings, or the chance to explore the north and south coasts of Devon, Exeter and more.

Chulmleigh is an attractive Devon village with thatched cottage, impressive church, cobbled lanes and a welcoming inn. Chulmleigh is ideally placed for both the north and south coasts, the shops and restaurants of Exeter, and plenty of wonderful walking, fishing and birdwatching.

Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?

Little Ash is a fantastic getaway literally in the middle of nowhere, so if you want a complete chill out or a romantic time away, Little Ash is ideal. It is still just a short drive to local pubs and villages/towns, but when you get back to the cottage, it's like stepping back in time - Lovely!

The cottage was in a lovely peaceful setting, it was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The hosts were very hospitable and helpful. We visited many Devon beauty spots, on the coast and inland. The weather was perfect.

Very helpful and welcoming owners. Provided info on walks, recommended places to eat in picturesque towns and generally accommodating. The cottage is clean and well equipped and lovely gardens to relax in. There is a walk through the woods from the cottage with a view to Dartmoor. RHS Rosemoor is a close drive away. A good central location in Devon. Access roads are narrow and pub is not walkable.

We stayed at Little Ash 8th Aug to 15th August 2015. We had wanted a total chill out break away having worked flat out all year and we wished to be away from the touristy towns and boy did Little Ash do just the trick! It is down a little lane at the base of a valley and attached to the owners 16th century cottage which with the grounds, used to be an old mill. We couldn't fault the cottage or its' setting, hence our 5 stars. The cottage itself was immaculate, clean as a whistle, more than adequately equipped and everything you needed from home to home! Sue and Alan the owners did a lovely little touch once we had settled in and brought us round a homemade cream tea, of which the scones Sue had baked especially for us and to be honest - We both said that this made us feel so welcomed from the outset of our stay and got us immediately relaxed in the Devon way - A lovely start to our stay. They are some outstanding oldey worldy pubs in the local villages serving fantastic food and drinks at exceptionally low prices compared to back up South where we come from. There are easy links to Torrington, Bideford, Bude, Barnstable etc and fantastic driving roads, twists and turns, but if you like driving, you'll love these roads. The cottage has a large box with leaflets to all sorts of attractions to suit everyone from extreme sports, to flower shows and we found these leaflets a Godsend. Although this was just a getaway break from the fast moving world back up South, I work on short term contracts and visit Devon and Cornwall 2 to 3 times a year for between 2 to 4 weeks at a time, normally staying in Travel Lodges and the like, but for any business man or woman, this is an ideal stop for most links within the two counties and no doubt with a longer stay, the accomodation rate would be negotiable I'm sure. Anyway, sorry for the length of this review, but I have always taken the time to complete an in-depth review if I thought the place was exceptional and Little Ash and the owners Sue and Alan definitely are exceptional. I hope this helps others in their decision to stay at Little Ash, as I can assure you that you won't be disappointed. Regards, Dave Nickless

If you want truly rural Devon in all iits beauty this is it. Allan and Sue are wonderful hosts with scones and clotted cream on arrival, three friendly dogs and two delightful Dartmoor ponies. Their setting on a crystal clear running stream and adjacent forest with wildlife including deer, pheasants and whathaveyou should allow anyone to unwind. The cottage was immaculate and warm.
