Madge House Cottage description

Holiday home
Madge House is a lovely, two-storey wing of a wonderful Georgian building set in the very heart of the town of Ashbourne and just a short walk from the market place and can sleep five people. This cottage is set over the first and second floors and has a king-size double bedroom with adjoining bathroom, a second floor super king-size double bedroom (zip/link, can be twin on request), a second floor single bedroom, a second floor shower room, a kitchen and a sitting room with a dining area. Outside there is off road parking for two cars and a communal park opposite the property. Madge House is a wonderful holiday base. Note: The ground floor entrance hall and stairs are shared. Note: Due to the central location and the property being situated on a main road, associated noise will be heard.

Situated in the south of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a wonderful example of an English market town. With a traditional market square, eclectic street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses, the heyday of this settlement came in the 18th Century when the town was a fashionable social centre. Many fine Georgian buildings remain from this era, adding an air of elegance to the town's heart. With numerous restaurants and inns, Ashbourne is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters. For those who prefer outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by, offering wonderful walking opportunities. Alton Towers Theme Park is just 20 minutes drive away and makes a fun day out for all the family.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Madge House is nicely furnished and private. It has its own internal staircase, so was ideal for ourselves and another couple. We could come and go as we please without disturbing each other.

The property was in a very good location in the middle of a very nice market town with all amenities close by. The property was very clean and well presented.

The accommodation is in an excellent location with shops, pubs and restaurants on the doorstep. The layout is excellent, with the top floor acting as a separate suite. It is well equipped with a good quality oven, microwave and dishwasher. The building itself with its high ceiling gives a sense of luxury.

Fantastic property in a great part of the town. Overall, an excellent stay that made for a terrific weekend.

House was clean - bit dated - meant for 5 adults - ok for 3 adults and 2 kids - but definitely not big enough for 5 adults. Two big problems - no WIFI! and no washing machine! - yet there was a dishwasher which I found strange? Also only few digital channel to TV - and no ITV3! Back to Yeldersley Hall Ashbourne for us!

Beautiful building, large rooms and the kitchen was a bit small but adequate. Very tastefully decorated. Location was ideal, right in the centre of town, we expected it to be quite noisy with road traffic but the walls were so thick that we hardly heard it! A very enjoyable holiday at Madge House, will definitely return!
