Maple Cottage description

A delightful little gem just for two, Maple Cottage offers a unique character with ‘upside-down’ accommodation to take advantage of the its rather special setting. The cottage is built on the remains of a traditional Victorian potting shed in a corner of the original walled garden built for the Eversley Estate around 1859.
From its slightly elevated position, the cottage has a lovely uninterrupted view over the owners’ grounds which are rich in wildlife. Beyond this, and visible form the cottage, lies the designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the southern side of the Kent Estuary. The area to the front of the cottage is mainly set to grass with mature trees and shrubs. It incorporates the site of the old Japanese garden with a pond and seating area, a wonderful spot to sit on a warm evening and enjoy the sunset. This is the location of the Maple trees which give the property its name, and there are drifts of snowdrops in winter followed by primroses, natural daffodils and bluebells.
Guests will enjoy the careful attention to detail and comfortable accommodation found at Maple Cottage which is perfect as an enjoyable base from which to enjoy this popular area. The cottage is found in the hamlet of Leasgill, South Lakeland and close to the historic market town of Kendal – ’gateway to the Lakes’. With Windermere and Bowness just a short drive away, you are well placed to explore South Lakeland at your leisure. Head to the nearby coast with villages such as Arnside and Silverdale offering fabulous views across Morecambe Bay. On the far side of the estuary the Victorian seaside town of Grange-over-Sands offers tea rooms and promenade strolls, with Cartmel and its famous racecourse and award winning restaurants close at hand. Beach 5 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub ½ mile and restaurant 2 miles.
