French windows open onto a private patio and there is also a balcony on the first floor, offering stunning views of the Esk. Visitors have access to a shared lawned garden and, in the colder months, the cottage warmed by central-heating throughout. A wonderful property at any time of year.

Mentioned as the town in which Dracula made his first English visit, Whitby has a fascinating and intriguing past. Adding to its dramatic splendour, Whitby is dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful Whitby abbey, built in the 13th Century. This traditional maritime town, with its old cobbled streets, picturesque houses and sandy blue-flag beach is a great place for a holiday or short break. Whitby is set amongst some of the finest stretches of Yorkshire coast, with spectacular cliffs, beaches and bays. A selection of diverse attractions includes the Captain Cook Memorial Museum Victorian Jet Works, the Dracula Experience, Pannett Park and Whitby Museum, with cabinets of curiosities from geology to jet carving, birdlife to bygones and costumes to clocks.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

The location was peaceful and the house comfortable. It was great to watch the rabbits on an evening. There is a lovely walk into Whitby with good views.
Ms Smith
March 2014
The view from the cottage (the River Esk and the viaduct) was wonderful; we loved watching the tide come in and out each day. The cottage was very thoughtfully provisioned; we loved finding things like binoculars (to better see the seal that swam up the river!), a hair dryer and a towel rail. Whitby is a really lovely town, very pretty with lots to do, and very welcoming.
Mr Coates
June 2013

March 2013
We found the accomodation at Maplebeck to be outstanding, everthing had been considered for and provided in the cottage and this meant that our stay was relaxing and very happy. The cottage was very clean and tidy and we found the decoration and facilities to be brilliant. It was our first time visiting Whitby and we were extremely impressed with the town and the beautiful surrounding area, lots for our small children and our dog to do as a family. Loads of happy memories, great holiday!
Mrs Austin
April 2013

The position of the cottage, views across the river, very quiet calming atmosphere. Had a lovely relaxing time, weather was very good, didn't want to come home.
Mr Anderson
November 2012
A beautiful location, very handy for Whitby which is a short walk away along a pleasant disused rail line. The daily appearance of the heron and the antics of the ducks were highlights where the wildlife was concerned. The property was compact but cosy and more than ample for the two of us.
Mrs Kuklik-Cousins
August 2012
We will certainly go back, the views from the lounge over the river Esk were fantastic. We would recommend the property to anyone.
Mr Whitfield

Mrs Sneyd
November 2011
Maplebeck is a wonderful cottage, ideally situated within walking distance of Whitby. The cottage is on the banks of the river, offering wonderful views and a chance to see lots of wildlife. There are many things to see and do within the area including Goathland (Heartbeat village) and Falling Foss waterfall. By far the best property we have stayed in to date that is dog friendly.
Mrs Rodgers
November 2011
The setting was wonderful - nice and relaxing but only a 20 minute walk into Whitby or 5 mins by car. The house was really nice and we felt really comfortable there. It was nice and warm as well - a good point when you go away in November. One thing I would say is that the photos on the web page do not do it justice - particularly the sitting area and balcony off the main bedroom. We would definitely go back there.
Mr Page
April 2011
This is one of the best holiday cottages I have ever stayed in!
Mr Connell
August 2011

The location is awesome. There were seals swimming in the river Esk which backs onto the garden and ducks and geese came every morning to be hand fed. There were also Kingfishers, Herons, and Cormorants. The setting is fantastic and so is the cottage. We would recommend it to everyone.
Mr Gilbert

Cottage was really home from home. Location very good. It was great to watch the wildlife and relax. Central location and easy access to other locations.

June 2008
Its position next to the river is superb and with the lawn in front of the cottage, pinics were a delight. Being able to walk into Whitby and its park via the disused railway and the magnificent brick bridge meant you were away from the 'crowds'(especially on bank holiday).
Mrs Stanyer
October 2008
The accommodation was fantastic and was more than we were expecting. The location was peaceful and ideally situated for exploring North Yorkshire. Can't wait to go back. The welcome bottle of wine and biscuits was much appreciated. Can't fault any aspect.

Everything. The cottage was all and more than I expected. We were very impressed with the surroundings and the owner was very pleasant. The bottle of wine was very much appreciated. We have stayed in 5 star hotels and not been as impressed as much as we were at Maplebeck. Even the weather was on our side.

The accommodation was in a beautiful location and was in fantastic condition. The house contained all mod cons and was very cosy and the kitchen was stocked with every conceivable implement. Beautiful property - well equipped, balcony looked out over the river, good for watching wildlife. Walked over the viaduct into the hustle and bustle of Whitby and good to return to our quiet picturesque holiday village.
December 2012
Maplebeck is a lovely cottage situated on the banks of the river Esk a mile from Whitby centre.Fully kitted out with everything you could need and great attention to detail, nice touches include masses of information on the area and binuculars. Excellent position for wildlife watching, every day we watched Herons, Cormorants & Dippers feeding on the river. Twice a solitary seal came floating past which was a pleasant suprise. Ducks, Geese and Herring Gulls came calling daily for their feed Excellent holiday, highly recommended

November 2013
Great location, right on the river bank. Plenty of birds to watch & even a seal! The cottage says it sleeps 5 but to be honest 2 adults, a 13 & 15 year old & a big dog filled the space. Comfy beds & generally good accommodation. There were a few little niggles though, the blind on the kitchen door, the kettle was faulty, no light on hob extractor, bathroom extractor & light above bathroom mirror not working, bathroom bin broken, rubbish shower & even batteries in remote control went!! All in all we had a great time & were very comfy here. Nice walk in to Whitby for us but steep hills for elderly, disabled or even prams/buggies. We didn't mind at all though.
December 2011
Everything that we required was provivded Maplebeck is a fantastic place to stay, the location is out of this world, its right next to the river Esk and the ducks and geese come calling on the patio every morning to be fed. Its only a short walk over the viaduct into Whitby maybe 2 miles or so, but a very pleasant walk.
July 2010
very nice accomodation, overlooking the river esk with its ever changing tidal ebb and flow.well situated for touring the north york moors.excellent standard of property, main bed a little soft for those needing good back support!overall very good.a litte marred by the temporary generator whilst repairs carried to mains cable, hopefully finished by now.
December 2009
My partner and I have holidayed in Whitby for the last five years, but this was our fist holiday rental experience, and what an experience! The cottage is located in a stunning and peaceful location, at the foot of the amazing viaduct, on the edge of the River Esk. This immaculate home, (and that's how it felt, like home), with excellent facilties, held a host of pleasantries; beautiful decor, stunning views, the most comfortable bed, (best sleep ever!), and not least the bottle of wine chilling in the fridge, and the inviting cookies beside the kettle! Not to mention the thoughtfully prepared, and extremely useful, albums filled with information about the local area, and it's attractions. The walk along the viaduct, reveals stunning views and would also be highly recommended. For a totally relaxing, peaceful, stressfree holiday, in an utterly breathtaking location, I could not recommend Maplebeck cottage enough.
