Meadow View Countryside Cottage description

Holiday home
This is a stone built semi detached, thoughtfully converted 17th Century barn, full of character and is situated next to the owner's farmhouse in the charming hamlet of Ollerbrook, only a 10 minute walk from Edale. Many of the original features have been retained throughout the property and have been skilfully incorporated with modern day conveniences. The living area is on the first floor to take advantage of the stunning views, all on open plan with the fitted kitchen and dining room, which leads to the relaxing sitting area with it's oak beams and is a great place to unwind. The three bedrooms all have the advantage of en-suites and are beautifully furnished, ensuring a good night's sleep. Furnished to a high standard this property is a perfect base for a family holiday in this stunning area.

The lovely village of Edale is situated in the High Peaks at the foot of Kinder Scout and is the start of the Pennine Way, making the area a walker's paradise. The village has a combined general store and post office, two public houses that serve food and a Moorland Visitor Centre. Only four miles from Castleton in the stunning Hope Valley, Castleton is famous for fluor-spar, better known as Blue John, a rare and beautiful mineral discovered by the Romans 2000 years ago and is the only known source in the world. Buxton took off as a spa town after the arrival of the railway making the town accessible to the masses. The Peak District makes a wonderful holiday location for visitors of all ages.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

This cottage was perfect for our special family get-together. The location is picturesque with immediate access for walking the peaks. It also has the added benefit of being serviced by the main Manchester to Sheffield trains. The property was spotless throughout and the owners were friendly and helpful. The cottage's three en-suite bedrooms were ideal for our family party, as was the open-plan living accommodation, enabling us to spend quality time together even whilst preparing meals in the well-equipped kitchen. There are two pubs in Edale - a short walk across a field - serving good pub food. We would definitely consider returning.
Mrs Sumby

Kitchen so well equipped, easy to cook for the family after a day out. Would thoroughly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a family holiday.

September 2011
The barn was equipped to the highest standards. The position was rural but it was only a short walk to Edale and the station, coffee shops and pubs. The owner was helpful but not obtrusive. Overall the holiday was a hit with all 4 generations of the family.
Mrs Young
June 2011
We love this cottage, it is our second time there. It is perfectly situated for walking and the pubs. It is very clean, comfortable and well equipped. We will be back next year.
Mrs Robinson
August 2011
It was our 2nd visit to this set of holiday cottages. Scenic rural location set in the Edale Valley with fantastic walking opportunities up on Kinder Scout and over to Castleton direct from the cottage doorstep. We had great weather on this trip so didn't have to rely on the wet weather activities I had planned, of which there are many in the area. This cottage would be accessible to those travelling without a car as although it feels like an isolated location, it's only a 10 minute walk from Edale railway station which is on the Manchester to Sheffield line. The cottage was well fitted and maintained throughout and the owner was very welcoming throughout our stay.
Mrs Giddings
February 2012
We would like to thank the owners for providing a lovely property. They were helpful with wifi connection and shopping deliveries. The property was warm with plenty of hot water.

The location at the farm is excellent. The barn conversion has been very well done and both the property as a whole and the way it has been maintained is to a very high standard. I would happily make a return visit to Meadow Bank. Ollerbrook is also an excellent location from which to explore Edale, the surrounding mountains and the general area.

What a wonderful property, in a beautiful location with friendly and helpful owners. We would whole heartedly recommend staying at Meadow View Cottage. The property was comfortable, spacious, so well appointed and absolutely spotless. It was with great reluctance that we handed the keys back at the end of our stay, but we are already planning our next visit!
Mr Studley
November 2008
The house felt comfortable from the moment you entered - the bedrooms in particular were of a very high standard. The location was excellent - far enough away to feel 'in the middle of nowhere' but close enough to reach civilisation quickly and easily.
Mrs Atkins
July 2008
This was an exemplary property! To sum up in one word - heavenly. I'd thoroughly recommend this cottage. The children had their own space, and the place was so well-equipped, with a beautiful view from every window. We were spoilt for choice as to which walk to do. I can honestly say I could not find fault. Please pass on our thanks! We will return.
Ms Evans

Very comfortable cottage, everything we needed was there. Lovely to wake up and see the sun rise over the hills and hear sheep bleeting. Great to be able to leave the car and head off for a walk in unspoilt countryside.
Mr Little
October 2007
There were many things to like about this property. The view from the window was stunning. The large open plan living and kitchen area had a very nice feel to it, making it possible for everyone at all times to be social. This place has been decorated to the highest standard, and its cleanliness was second to none. I even had a chance to talk to the owner, and she was a very pleasant and welcoming person. I like to go away with friends on a regular basis, and will seriously consider visiting the same place again.
November 2015
We stayed here as a group of friends as our base for walking in and around Edale. Absolutely beautiful surroundings. The cottage is amazing and is actually much bigger than the photos demonstrate (rare!). Cannot say how perfect it was - 3 lovely bedrooms, all with ensuites and lovely and clean. Kitchen wonderfully equipped for cooking big meals. Overall we had a wonderful stay and will most likely be returning! The snow in November made it even prettier than normal. Again - 5 starts. The only thing "wrong" with the cottage is that it doesn't have an open fire - but that can't be helped. Owners were wonderful and friendly when checking in and happy to answer any questions we had.
July 2010
Cottage was lovely and warm in a beautiful part of the countryside with everything thought of in the way over facilities. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend anyone to go and have a great time.
November 2010
A great cottage, very quiet, superb views from most windows, very clean and new. Very well equiped kitchen. A great stay, many walks from the front door
November 2010
We wanted to be able to walk in the Edale Valley and this cottage provided the ideal location. A ten minute walk to the pubs in Edale. roomy and clean accommodation. Friendly hosts. We enjoyed this holiday and would love to go back.
August 2011
The accommodation is well equipped, comfortable, clean and in an excellent location for exploring the area. Our second visit.
September 2011
The accomodation was excellent in a fantastic area of the Peak District. Ideal for walking and touring the area. Very friendly hosts.
December 2011
Lovely house, well equipped, very comfortable, in a near perfect High Peaks location. Loved it! Kitchen and bedrooms (all en suite) were great, pleasant walk to village of Edale, great circular walks from the house. Minor niggle, had to go outside to pick up the wi-fi from the farmhouse. Took some finding when we arrived.
January 2012
went with friends, clean and comfy & quiet, everything that you wanted for self catering.really good walking area and if you wanted to go further a nice place to come back to.very friendly owners.the local shop ordered my daily paper for me.
September 2012
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very attentive owners nearby for queries. Very well equipped. Nice to have comfortable lounge area as weather was not very good. Location very good for accessing local amenities. Enjoyed blue john mine, Chatsworth house and farm shop, Ladybower, Derwent reservoirs.
September 2014
Travelled with friends who needed separate rooms. Three ensuite delightful bedrooms, comfortable sitting room, well equipped kitchen, including a bread maker! A lovely walk into Edale and several other walks from the door. Lots of things to see and do in the area. Very quiet ( you get used to the occasional train in the distance). Very friendly helpful hostess, and a great feeling of a local community. No phone access

June 2015
We have just come back from staying at this wonderful cottage with the family. Though we were 6 adults and a lively 2 year old this cottage accommodated us with room to spare. All bedrooms were clean, cosy and nicely decorated. The kitchen was well equipped, even more than our own houses :-) The location was off the 'main road' so all we heard were birds, sheep and the occasional train. You have to drive to the nearest shops and pubs but this is really no hardship. I would highly recommend this cottage to families or groups/couples.
Mrs Spalding
September 2007
Beautiful area and lovely walks...
Mr Daniel
October 2007
It is very comfortable and extremely well equipped. The location offers easy access to hiking trails, excellent views, and a peaceful setting just a short walk from the village of Edale...Perhaps the best self-catering accommodation we have seen to date.
Mr Brown
August 2007
The area and the setting of the property was excellent. For walkers there were sufficient walks from the property to completely avoid using a car throughout the week, and there was a a pub within 10 minutes walk. What more could one ask apart from a week's sunshine (which we got).

June 2015
Spent a brilliant week at Meadow Cottage with my family. The cottage had everything you need plus a few nice little extras. The fresh flowers in the living room. The cottage is very well decorated. Everything was very clean. The bedrooms were excellent and having all en-suite was a bonus. The surroundings are very peaceful. The garden was secure so our Grandson was safe to play. Would highly recommend this cottage.
December 2009
The property interior was new, clean and smart. It is a recent barn conversion and has been well done. The owner lives in the farmhouse just over the driveway and we were met and shown round and made welcome. The fact that the cottage is in the middle of a working farm was fine as it was all accommodation around and it is a sheep farm and you look out across the garden, field and fells. Kitchen was well equipped. We were six adults as three couples and the cottage was spacious for us all. We had a dry week with only one rainy day, which might be rare in Edale. The cottage is nice to relax in and it is just a short walk from Edale and the two pubs. We set off walking on the hills around Edale every day and went in different directions covering every hilltop in sight during the week. These walks are right on your doorstep and this is an excellent location for walks, yet also only a few miles in the car from pleasant villages and eating places or the wider Peak District. We would happily return to this cottage another year.
December 2009
Excellent cottage with very friendly owners. The cottage is in a very rural setting and is an ideal base for touring the surrounding countryside yet at the same time is very close to major conurbations. We particularly liked that all three bedrooms had en-suite facilities. In addition to the added privacy it saved time in the morning meaning we could be out and about earlier than would have been normal.
Karen J Wright
December 2009
Have stayed in many holidays lets in the past, and I have to say this was the best! The accomodation was first class, lovely fixtures and fittings with comfortable beds. The owners were extremely friendly and they were on hand to offer advice on where and what to do locally and further afield. Lovely fresh flowers on arrival and homemade scones! Great location, away from it all, but within a safe short walk (of the road)to the local village and pub. Higly recommended
December 2009
This was our second visit to this property. The owners were friendly and helpful. The accommodation suited our party extremely well. The views from the cottage and garden are splendid and the atmosphere is one of peace and tranquility. It is a pleasant short walk into Edale village for the information centre, shop, pub and church. We were lucky enough to be entertained there by the Morris team from Chapel-en-le-Frith. It is a walker's paradise with the Pennine Way so close as well as Mam Tor and Castleton. Travelling by car it is easy to access other parts of the Peak District and particularly the cycle trails. One of the objects of our visit was to go to some performances at the G & S Festival in Buxton which we did on 3 evenings during our stay. Probably the worst thing about our stay was the deteriorating weather as the week progressed!
