We had an extended family celebration with ages ranging from 87 years to 2 months and the facilities and location were perfectly suited to our needs. We had a great time. There was plenty of communal and personal space, and all the things we needed were there (especially WiFi).

We really enjoyed our weekend at Meathop Hall. The location was good, not far from Grange over Sands or Cartmel. The arrival of snow made our weekend extra special, especially for the children! The layout of the house was perfect for the 13 of us, with comfy beds and warm and cosy bedrooms which were ideal.

I loved the house. It was cosy, comfy, spacious, well presented, relaxed and everything you could want in a holiday home! We were very happy in this home away from home for a week. As a fortieth birthday with six couples and a baby it was perfect!

The weather for our stay was amazing which always helps but the overall feeling of the accommodation was that it was attractive and very comfortable. We were a large party and everyone was very happy with their rooms (which is rare!).

The house really was nice; particularly the bedrooms upstairs and the double room downstairs. The kids loved running around the spacious kitchen and the garden area. The house was generally very well appointed and we all loved the peace and quiet. The surrounding area, including things to do, were thoroughly worthwhile.

This property was ideal for a family celebration. It had plenty of bathrooms with good supply of hot water. The kitchen was ideal for catering for everyone, and having two warm seating areas meant it catered for all needs. The garden and house was ideal for dogs. The location was ideal for both winter and summer use. The whole house was comfortable and interesting, and had a lovely atmosphere. We loved it! Overall a wonderful place for a family gathering.

The property was in close proximity to the Lake District. The outside area was lovely to relax in the sun and also sufficient parking. It was spacious and comfortable making it feel like a home from the start. It was an amazing find for a group of 12 and we greatly enjoyed our holiday.

January 2014
This was an excellent house to celebrate Christmas in. We were a party of 12 adults, one toddler and two dogs and there was enough space for all of us to spread out or party together. The bathrooms were well equipped and because there were so many there wasn't any waiting around for one to become free.
Mrs Duerden
June 2013
Lovely property for a large group, exceeded all our expectations.
Mr Smith
May 2013
The house was much bigger than anticipated - the photos did not do it justice! Unlike so many self-catering properties at which we have stayed, the beds were wonderfully comfy. It had a real boutique hotel/country house feel to it which made for a great stay. Delicious local cakes on arrival much appreciated! Already trying to work out a return visit.
Mrs Bate
August 2012
Beautiful property with high standard accommodation.

March 2013
A delightful property visited during a particularly cold week. Prompt response by owners to our request for additional heating. Utility room very useful for drying outdoor gear. Very comfortable and with good facilities. An excellent base for walking in the stunning South Lakes and AONB areas. Rail link to Arnside/Silverdale very useful. Most of our group had not walked in the area before and were amazed by both the coastal and upland scenery on offer.
Mrs Campbell
May 2012
The quality and size of the accommodation. The location was perfect, tranquil but if you wanted more action you are only 30 mins from Ambleside.

July 2012
It was a relaxing break for our far flung family members and we were all impressed by the quality of the property.
September 2013
We booked Meathop Hall for a special occasion to be shared with family and friends who stayed in relays. The accommodation was excellent. Five bedrooms were great, the sixth with twin beds was small and stuffy. Ample bathrooms meant there were no queues. The kitchen and breakfast area were super, spilling over into the outside space. We had such good weatheer that we used the sitting room only in the late evenings but there would have been plenty of social space if it had been wet. There wer one or two items missing from the kitchen like pyrex basins - how can you whisk eggs without a basin? The hot weather however encouraged flies and fly deterrents would have been useful. Also with different people coming mid week it woiuld have nice to have been able to clean the bathrooms for them but there was no equipment. The owner responded quickly to our requests. The view was lovely and we all enjoyed sitting outside watching the sunset. The nearby restuarant/pub was conveniently located but only average in terms of it's food, We went once and did not return.
December 2013
I would first say that our family gathering of 10 adults + 1 2week old really enjoyed the stay and the family time together. The place was very nice and i would had given excellent all round if not for the one big problem, the TV is suffering from a poor damp issue that renders the room unusable due to the terrible musty smell. The owners are aware of it and were using a de-humidifier to help with the problem, it's now december 13 so maybe now the problem is fully fixed. The owners did come round on the first day to drop us off our logs for the dining room fire, the stereo was mibehaving, so the owner instantly went away and brought back a brand new one. We found the owners to be polite and very helpful, they told us some nice places to visit and also eating houses. The rooms were huge especially the 10 door wardrobe you could play hide and seek in. The kitchen diner had everything you needed for a family to gather and cook. Car parking was no problem, we easily got 3 cars around the back with room for a couple more. It's in a quiet area close enough to the southern end of windermere. We would stay again if the damp issue and musty smell was sorted.
October 2014
The house is set in a lovely quiet village with Grange-over-sands within easy striking distance. The house easily accommodated all 13 of us with ample parking for four cars. The well appointed kitchen diner was excellent allowing cooking and socialising to go hand in hand. We all had a wonderful time. The only negatives are that the house could do with a lick of paint and there is a damp problem in the downstairs shower room and the sitting room where the TV is, though there is a dehumidifier in there. If these issues are resolved I would definitely go back.

This property is in a quiet hamlet just of the main road , so has easy access to Grange Over Sands, 2 miles away. There is ample parking, we had 3 cars and all parked without a problem. We rented the property for a 90th birthday family get together. There were 12 of us ranging from 5year olds to 90.The property had enough bedrooms (6) and bathrooms (5).Two of the bedrooms were on the ground floor which was ideal as a member of our party had difficulties getting about. The bathrooms were either ensuite or next to the bedroom which meant everyone had their privacy. The layout of the property meant that you could have quiet time or be together as a group, as there is a large kitchen with a dinning/seating area ,plus a large room with a more formal dinning option with 3 sofa's round a wood burner. This room we used a lot as it felt quite cosy. There was also a large TV lounge at the opposite end of the property. The kitchen and bathrooms are modern and spacious. There is outside space at the front of the property with a picnic table and a patio set perfect for sunny days, this is accessable from the kitchen dinner. The only negative aspects to the property are that the floors are wooden with no carpets so sound travels. The property is looking a bit tired ie needs paint work touching up and a few little repairs could do with carrying out. There is also a damp problem in the large TV lounge which could be an issue for some people. The odour is being disguised by air fresheners. To the rear of the property are terraced areas with steep steps not suitable for un supervised children, this area has been neglected, which is a pitty as it has wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The negatives didn't spoil our break and I would think this could be a great place for a Xmas break.Without the negatives I would have given it 5 stars as everyone enjoyed them selves.

This is a fabulous house for a large party, overall cleanliness seemed good. Beautiful house with breathtaking views, we would definitely recommend.
August 2013
We stayed at Meathop Hall last week with our extended family. A family of 5, a couple and another family of 4. We were very well catered for with 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. On arrival we were left two lovely cakes to use and plenty of domestic items like bin liners and dishwasher tablets. Very useful and thoughtful. The kitchen and rooms were large, spacious and served us very well. We went to the local hotel/pub at the caravan site just up the road which served lovely home cooked food and even though they were busy and we hadn't booked let us eat. The location of the Hall is also fantastic with great access to the south, central and Western couldn't ask for more. We also had our dog with us who was most welcome by the owners and loved his stay as well. My only small negative would be the house could do with decorating in some places but given the place is Circa 17century it's not surprising...keeping on top of something this size would take constant work. This was a minor issue though and didn't detract from our overall fab experience. Would definitely love to return soon!
July 2013
We really enjoyed our stay in Meathop Hall. It is a beautiful house with lovely bedrooms which are all a good standard so there was no fighting about who got the best room! The location was really good, an unusual part of Cumbria which we hadn't explored. The hotel up the road is very good for food or just a drink.
