Miller's Lodge Countryside Cottage description

Holiday home
Situated in the owner's grounds in the peaceful Looe Valley, this lovely stone-built cottage is on the outskirts of the Cornish village of St Keyne and just three miles from Liskeard. With an attractive bedroom and main living area, the cottage also boasts a private patio on which visitors can enjoy a drink after a day exploring. The single track Looe Valley Railway passes within 100 yards and allows residents of this charming cottage to hail the train for a 'request halt'.

Set in the main valley leading down to the coast at Looe is the sleepy village of St Keyne. A haven for nature and wildlife lovers, this lovely region is renowned for its rolling meadows and wooded valleys. With sandy beaches and long coastal walks, the village is close to the south coast, which serves as the area's main attraction whilst visitors who would like to experience traditional working Cornish fishing towns can enjoy a trip to Polperro and Looe - just a 20 minute drive away. There are a number of elegant country houses nearby, in addition to the impressive cathedral city of Truro. Also within easy reach are the world-renowned Eden Project and the wonderful gardens at Heligan.

Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.

Miller's Lodge was ideally situated for sightseeing. Nice to come back to a clean and comfortable house after a long day out. Good to have the option of using the train with a station situated at bottom of garden - the trains do not disturb you, in fact you can't really hear them. The owners of the Lodge were lovely and very helpful. I would recommend this holiday to friends and family for a peaceful getaway.

November 2011
A really comfortable and well appointed cottage for two. A very quiet country location reached by some typically narrow Cornish roads, but this did not present any problems. The location is close to Liskeard which has reasonable amenities including a decent supermarket and a main line railway station. The cottage is also close to a halt on the Looe - Liskeard branch and with a bit of planning this is very useful for day trips to various places in the area including Plymouth, Penzance and Newquay. We would certainly consider renting this cottage again.
Mrs Hardstaff
July 2012
The cottage was in a quiet and beautiful setting. A small station just two minuets walk away was convenient to go into Looe without using the car - a lovely place to stay!

The closeness to the railway halt and main line was a great bonus, meaning we could leave the car at home. This one of our most relaxing holidays, not just the quite and peaceful location, but not having to worry about parking when you went out or getting stuck in traffic.
Mrs Kirk

There was no cost cutting in the decor and furnishing and the cottage is very well thought through. A lot of consideration has gone into making the cottage homely, comfortable and pleasing to the eye. We will definitely return.

The cottage is in a beautiful location. Looe is about 5 miles away and has all the seaside shops and a lovely beach. You can take the train, which is only one minute from the cottage, or you can drive. There are plenty of nice places to eat. The location of the cottage is ideal for visiting all the places of interest in the area. The cottage has everything that we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The cottage looks like a show home and has been nicely decorated. The owners were very friendly and offered to provide any help we may have needed. We appreciated the bottle of champagne as it was our honeymoon. There are plenty of nice walks in the area. I would recommend this cottage to anyone.

The overall standard of the property and furnishings was excellent. As a young couple we would have loved to have moved in permanently! The quiet area was perfect. Nice sea locations (Looe Polperro) were within 20-30 mins drive and Plymouth was also close to hand. Great having the facility to wash clothes while we were there. We were blessed with brilliant weather, so were really able to enjoy walking in the area. The accommodation was perfect for two, and very well equipped. It was also very tastefully furnished, and comfortable, and the owner added welcome details like a vase of roses, and bottles of milk and wine in the fridge. The adjacent museum of musical machines, and the nearby request stop railway were great.

June 2008
First class accommodation in an excellent location in the Looe valley. Millers Lodge is equipped to a high standard thus ensuring that all needs are catered for. The accommodation is thoughtfully furnished and decorated providing an ambiance that adds to the enjoyment of the holiday. The bottle of wine and milk and biscuits were a 'nice touch' unexpected but very much appreciated - they furthered the impression that the proprietors had thought of everything....
Mr Walker
July 2008
First class. A credit to the owners.
Mr Storer
August 2008
The cottage was fantastic, set in a beautiful part of Cornwall, it was so peaceful, you couldn't wish for better. This is an excellent holiday home, I will recommend it to friends and family.
June 2014
Miller's Lodge is a cottage with character but thoroughly modernised inside. Contains a lounge/diner with kitchen attached and upstairs a bedroom and bathroom. It is a comfortable place to stay and the kitchen in particular is very well equiped. As others have mentioned it is situated next to the Looe Valley line and St Keyne station which runs from Liskiard to Looe. The service is very reliable (trains about every 90mins) and allows an easy ride into Looe but also connections to the rest of the main railway network from Liskiard. Millers Lodge is about a mile (maybe less from St Keyne and apart from the train it is a rarity to see any traffic at all. The roads are generally very narrow and I would suggest using the road from the cottage direct to Liskiard to get out into Cornwall rather than the minor roads which aren't always signposted. Would thoroughly recommend Millers Lodge and plan on returning angain in the not too distant future.
Joann K
September 2014
Lovely cottage in a fantastic location which makes for a great base to tour around Cornwall. The train journey from the end of the garden to Loos is a must. In fact travel by train is very easy and not at all expensive. We took the train from the end of the garden into Penzance for the day. The cottage is extremely well equipped and has everything you could want. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We would certainly recommend this cottage.

June 2013
We have just returned and we can honestly say this cottage is superb, every thing you need is in the cottage which matches modern with old world charm it is very comfortable and tastefully decorated. the location is perfect for touring cornwall and the inobtusive train stop to Looe and liskeard is a delight just 20 yards from the front door The owners are really friendly and helpfull we will return
September 2013
This is the nicest cottage we have stayed in, it really is home from home with all the lovely finishing homely touches, it has everything you need and more! quality cuttelry and crockery, fluffy towels, coffee maker, dish washer, and all mod cons, we loved it here!! It's so peaceful, the first morning we woke up I opened the window to just the sound do birds singing, it was a world away from what we are used to, it was bliss, the train into Looe is a must! very cheap too and easy to catch. There's a big morrisons and an Aldi about 3 miles away so not far to stock up. We visited so many places Mevagissy, Plymouth, Falmouth but my favourite was St Ives! It's about 56 miles away (around an hour and 20 mins) but well worth a day out. The owners are lovely and very helpful I really can't recommend this cottage enough! Lovely stay thank you!!!

July 2012
Our stay at miller's lodge was so peacefull & comfortable the cottage itself contained everything and we could not have asked for more.
July 2012
What more can I say? This was the ideal cottage for many reasons. Firstly it is in the best area. Central to the East of Cornwall you are only a short drive from anywhere (e.g. St. Austell, Eden Project, Looe, Polperro, Padstow). Secondly the location is so peaceful and ideal for a relaxing getaway. Thirdly the cottage has everything you need for a relaxing getaway and it has all modern conveniences. Fourthly I would highly recommend this cottage if you would like to take your baby for its first trip away. Ours is 9 months and she had a travelcot provided, a high chair provided and also a babies play centre too. Finally the owners of the cottage are so friendly and their gift on arrival was well needed after the drive. Oh...did I forget to mention that you can walk from the cottage to the rail track to Looe/Liskeard? Having a train so close may put people off, but you cant hear it and it isnt that often. It does provide a few drive free days if you have had a lot of driving and it is a fairly good price. On the whole an excellent cottage in an excellent location.
June 2012
This was our second time at Millers Lodge and I can honestly say we were not disappointed. Nothing has changed. The cottage is immaculate and has everything you could want. The owners are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. We very much appreciated the extra touches provided (wine, biscuits, tea and milk). The house is tucked away and is so quiet. We enjoyed visiting many places in Cornwall. The station behind the house is wonderful. We took great delight in catching it into Looe to have a meal and then home again enabling us to have a well earned bottle of wine without worrying about the drive home. We can recommend the Squid Ink restaurant in Looe, a real find. The front of house were so kind and informative and the food was out of this world. We found Rock a wonderful place to visit too. Many top quality food shops where we purchased the ingredients for our BBQ and a fabulous beach which also has a ferry to nearby Padstow.
September 2010
Our stay here was excellent. The property was a conversion that had being really well thought out and furnished. It was extremely comfortable with several unexpected extras.
September 2011
This was the most relaxing place we have ever stayed. Everything you could want was in the cottage, we wanted for nothing. The hosts were friendly and were always around but never in the way.Well presented cottage and lovely and clean.Fantastice scenery and so quiet.
March 2012
My wife and I stayed at Miller's Lodge for a week in late March 2012. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the cottage is well furnished / equipped, comfortable and clean. The location is peaceful and good as a centre for exploring East Cornwall but is very remote with no shops / restaurants within walking distance. Also bear in mind that there's no wi-fi or mobile reception, being disconnected for a week helped with the relaxation and the odd trip to Liskeard to get an iPad / iPhone fix wasn't too much of a chore. Overall we'd highly recommend the cottage as a base for a relaxing break.
September 2010
Very quiet location, friendly owners, everything we need was provided, and it was comfortable.
Cornish rover.
September 2010
Miller's Lodge was an ideal holiday cottage. The local rail link, with station halt nearby, was a great bonus as was the superb restaurant/hotel, the Well House, situated aout a mile away and easily accessible on foot. The cottage itself contained everything and we could not have asked for more, even the weather was perfect! The "Marvellous Music Machines" exhibition within the grounds also proved to be very interesting and the owner was very knowledgeable about his collection. All in all: excellent!
April 2010
We could not have asked for more on this holiday, the cottage was warm cosy and comfortable and very secluded. Everything was provided for us. Even though we experienced all sorts of weather conditions, snow, rain, hail and sunshine we had a lovely time. The owners who lived next door we very helpful and the wine, tea, coffee and biscuits were very much appreciated.
December 2009
We received a warm welcome. The property was newly refurbished to a good standard, very clean but small and felt cramped. This probably seemed worse due to the large furniture. The kitchen was well appointed but in our opinion was too large in relation to the rest of the property.
December 2009
Really magical peaceful little place with a river running behind it and the tiny station on the line to Looe 50 metres away. Really clean with everything ,and more, you need. Friendly welcoming owners and the fabulous Musical Machine museum attached, free guided tour included. Perfect for a couple with room for one child. Brilliant beaches within 30 minutes driving. Can not think of one bad thing about it!! It is pretty isolated so a drive to shops etc but I think that is part of its charm.
retired couple
December 2009
Superbly equipped and finished. Quiet location even though close to station. Train stops on request for pleasant trip into Looe and avoids taking car into village. Very pleasant owners.
