Millstone description

Holiday home
Millstone is set on a working farm close to the village of Staindrop in Teesdale, just five miles from Barnard Castle. The cottage has one family bedroom with an ensuite and a sauna, one double room and one twin as well as a family bathroom (with a spa bath) which makes it suitable for seven people. Also in the cottage is an open plan living area with a fitted kitchen, a dining area and a sitting room. Outside the cottage is off road parking for two cars, a sheltered shared front courtyard with furniture and a designated play area for children (adult supervision required). Ideal for exploring the northern Dales, Millstone is sure to appeal to the whole family.

Area
Closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle, the village of Staindrop is a pretty holiday spot for anyone looking to spend time in Teesdale. Open to the public, the castle itself is one of the most spectacular in England. Extended and adapted over the years, the construction was originally medieval, boasting a walled garden and a 200-acre deer park. The village of Staindrop offers visitors a range of interesting shops, pubs and cafes, all of which are set round its long village green. For more diverse shopping opportunities, the popular market town of Barnard Castle is only five miles away, and provides a selection of shops and tea-rooms, in addition to it's namesake – the famous castle. The Teesdale countryside is also a draw, offering a huge number of routes for walkers and cyclists looking to explore the region.

Region
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Millstone was a spacious property which was a good distance to tourist attractions. There was a luxurious jacuzzi bath and sauna which gave the adults a little added relaxation and the outdoor play area was brilliant.. We would definitely go back.

The owner's made us feel welcome, the cottage and it's ameneties were explained very well on arrival at the cottage. The cotage had billiant view's across the local countryside from the lounge, the whole cottage we found to be spacious and well looked after. It was great to come back after long walk's with our dog and relax in the cottage's sauna and spa bath just luxury!

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The property was of a high standard, clean, very well furnished and equipped. Our toddler enjoyed it the most. There were plenty of toys to keep him occupied and happy. It was a home away from home and we would recommend to all our friends.

Very spacious. Lovely setting, very laid back and close to High Force and Barnard Castle. A great base, close to Teeside for us so the journey, was not arduous at all. Great spa bath and sauna and ample parking. We relaxed a lot and were made very welcome.

This holiday cottage was in a fabulous location, it was a lovely spot in the countryside. The cottage was a really good size, plenty of room for everyone to have their own bit of space. The climbing frame out the front was a real bonus and provided the children with many hours of entertainment. The children loved to see all the nearby farm animals. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and helpful.

We had an excellent holiday. The playground was a great hit with the kids and due to the fact we could see them from the window it was used all the time we were at the cottage.

The property had a really spacious feel to it and was very well kept. The kitchen was very well equipped for a holiday cottage with pretty much all the equipment we have at home. The spa bath and sauna were great! Our children enjoyed playing football and basketball in the back yard and there was a good play area for younger children at the front.

For a large group the cottages are excellent, especially with opening doors to other adjoining cottage.

The kids loved the working farm and the ponies. The cottage owners were the nicest family we have ever met. The sleepy village of Cleatlam is so relaxing and peaceful but really close to great days out. All in all an excellent cottage and excellent holiday.

One of the best cottages we have stayed in. The owners were very friendly, with the right approach, they let us get on with enjoying ourselves, even though they only lived next door.

Home from home! There is no need to take any thing other than yourselves. Every little thing is catered for. A very secure location for little ones, and great for larger families that want to be together in the day but have their privacy during the night. Very clean and very modern, we will go again.

The pictures and property description don't do this lovely cottage justice - not only a lovely place to stay, but the surroundings are wonderful and the welcome friendly. A must for country lovers. Good quality beds, comfortable and spotless .

December 2004
The views were splendid. The widescreen TV was a plus and the whirlpool bath...well...older bones and muscles really appreciated it! I loved the upside down layout of the house, especially as the snow drifting over the hills and dales was superbly visible from the huge window, whilst warm in the central heating! I would love to go there again and try a different season.
Mr Johnson

First rate accommodation, tastefully furnished, that was very clean and ideal for the larger family or groups. The sauna was an extra bonus. Everything one would need on holiday was included. Friendly people in a good location for getting out and about.

December 2004
The facilities for children were amazing - garden with a park, videos, books, board games. And pure luxury for adults with the jacuzzi, whirlpool bath and leather settees. To be honest you dont need to move from the property but if you do strongly recommend a trip to High Force waterfall just a couple of miles down the road. Our hosts were the most helpful we have ever met after several years of staying in holiday cottages.
Mr Sandland
December 2004
The standard of accommodation is 2nd to none and the hosts simply cannot do enough to make your stay an enjoyable one. The kids are made to feel completely at home by the local kids(and parents!) All this with the added luxury of the accommodation which cannot be faulted. I would recommend a stay at Strathmore Barns to anyone.
Mr Sandland
December 2004
The friendliness of the local people, as well as the owners, made us feel totally at home. the peace and tranquility made for a totally a relaxing holiday. However there was plenty to see and do roundabouts should you require it. The standard of the accommodation was brilliant, everything about the cottage was superb.

We had a very warm welcome and early check in. There were two boxes of age appropriate toys for our baby and superb level of equipment through out. The en-suite sauna was definitely an added treat for me!! Lovely out door play equipment for the children and high level of comfort and thoughtfulness in everything. Would look to come and stay again and have recommended it already. The added bonus of being in a Tesco delivering are made this a really easy and relaxing holiday. The beautiful market Town of Barnard Castle is only 10 mins drive away, easy access to Darlington, and some fantastic scenery on your door step!

Very warm, comfortable large property which is well equipped. Since its initial renovation some parts of the property are beginning to look tired and in need of some TLC. A good spruce up and some minor maintenance work would do the trick. We enjoyed our stay. Very friendly owners.
