This was the 2nd time I've stayed in this wonderful holiday cottage just north of Derby city centre. Last year I was on a diet and couldn't accept the bottle of prosecco that the owners thoughtfully left in the fridge - this year, I could! :-) Not just prosecco, though - the owners leave a pint each of skimmed, half, and whole milk in the fridge, along with at least a months' worth of tea, coffee, and sugar (two kinds) for your stay. Too many holiday cottage owners cut too many corners - not these folk. Everything you need for a wonderful holiday is here, including more TVs than you can watch (lounge, kitchen, bedroom) and ample clothing storage in the bedroom.
The 6* buses from Derby city centre will get you to Blenheim Parade (with a Co-Op, Tesco, newsagents, and more; a 5-10 minute walk to the cottage) or, you can take a TransPeak bus from Derby bus station to Duffield Road/Park Road, and walk up the Church Walk pathway (next to the fireplace store) to the CofE church directly opposite the cottage.
The Red Cow pub directly across the road serves food all day long - and is dog-friendly inside and out - and nothing can beat Allestree Park for dog walks through woods, streams, ponds, and across the (18-hole) golf course. The southern access to Allesstree Park is just steps from the cottage's front door. (Note that food/drinks from Allestree Hall aren't available Mon-Weds-Fri.)
Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock, and more are accessible via public transport or car for day trips. This really is a wonderfully quiet, tranquil, and dog-friendly cottage for all Derbyshire holidays.
