Cosy, clean and comfortable accommodation. A well restored cottage with a lovely garden that is enclosed and pet friendly. It was a larger property than the photos indicated.

Pear Tree Cottage is fabulous. The perfect base for exploring Shropshire and North Wales. The property has everything you could possibly need and was very clean. The bed is so very comfortable as were the sofa/chairs. All in all a 5 star accommodation in a fantastic location. Looking forward to returning again soon.

A fabulous cottage, furnished beautifully with absolutely nothing lacking. The owners have thought of everything. The instructions for all the electrical items/heating/water were perfect, and there was a folder with very comprehensive instructions on what to see and do locally, where to eat, emergency services etc. There were games/jigsaws/books/DVDs for everyone from babies to adults. A perfect cottage for dogs too. The kitchen and conservatory were perfect for them, as the floor was quarry tiled, so could be mopped out when they came in mucky from a walk. As there was a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs, they could sleep in there overnight, and still know that we weren't far away. Several local pubs were dog friendly too. I couldn't recommend Pear Tree Cottage enough, thanks to the owners for keeping the cottage so beautifully.

A lovely quiet location within walking distance of all local sights and amenities. Lots of lovely touches in the cottage that really made it stand out from others we've stayed in.

The cottage was in a very quiet part of the village, but still very close to all amenities. There was plenty of room and we used the conservatory a lot for breakfast. The two public houses were both dog friendly and both served lovely food. It was a good base for visiting Shropshire and we hope to go back.

Pear Tree Cottage was very comfortable and very well equipped for either a couple or a family, including their dogs. The owner was very friendly and extremely informative with their guide to local pubs, shops and places to visit. We had a very enjoyable holiday and would consider staying at Pear Tree cottage again in the future.

Pear Tree Cottage excels. It is the most comfortable, relaxing place you could ever choose. The garden is beautiful. The neighbours are polite, friendly, helpful and welcoming, yet they give you your own precious space. Just like the wonderful owners. We are 100% delighted with our week's holiday - and plan to book another week later in the year. Thank you. We wish we had booked a month...or indeed a year to totally chill, further explore the lovely area and watch the garden grow!

This is a lovely cosy little cottage set in an excellent place for exploring the area. It is clean and very comfortable with little extra touches by the owners to make your holiday experience a special one. Speaking of the owners, in all the years we have been booking cottages these are the friendliest and most helpful we've encountered.

The owners were friendly and so helpful. The cottage itself was lovely - a home from home and spotlessly clean. The thoughtful touches really added to the overall welcoming nature of the cottage and was a reflection of the owners' thoughtfulness. The cottage is in a great location enabling easy access to surrounding areas. The village was lovely too, with two excellent pubs serving food - it even had a duck pond and castle! Would definitely recommend - 5 stars.

In an excellent location with plenty of lovely places to visit and walks from the door. The cottage itself was thoughtfully set out and had up market fittings and furniture. The conservatory was a bonus, beautiful when sun was shining.

We found Pear Tree Cottage was excellent in every way, it is self catering at its best. The owners have an eye for detail and have taken great pride in providing a fully equipped, spotlessly clean delightful home from home. Everything is well maintained and working and there are lots of high quality comforts. This is a repeat visit. Pear Tree Cottage never fails to impress and delight - and we look forward to returning. Thank you.

We liked the layout of the cottage. My husband liked the parking, the secure and enclosed garden was good for us and the dogs, the bright light bedrooms, kitchen and conservatory were a plus. Two good pubs within walking distance plus lovely countryside. All improved by sunny weather! Would recommend and book same cottage again.

A winter holiday home needs to be comfortable, warm and most inviting. It helps if it is near facilities - Pear Tree Cottage ticked EVERY box and it was a pleasure and treat to be there. It was our second visit and we plan to return in the summer to enjoy the lovely garden.

Not sure what the Tourist Board Grade was, but to us it was perfect in every way. It felt like a treat to be there. The living areas were traditional and beamed and very serene, relaxed and beautiful - child friendly too. The perfection of all equipment meant that everything was a pleasure to use. It was all so lovely and user friendly we felt we could happily live there. We intend to return. The owners treated us like treasured guests with a welcome pack and advent calendar for our little grandsons. They had a wealth of literature available about the area and the lovely village in which it is situated. Oh yes - and the cottage was warm - an essential in December! As you can tell we give Pear Tree Cottage ten out of ten and feel it could become our perfect retreat. Thank you.

This is probably the best equipped cottage we have ever used as well as being furnished to a high standard. Add to this fast broadband, 40 inch TV in lounge and a wall mounted TV in the bedroom. Rounding it all off, owners who really want you to enjoy your week and will go the extra mile to ensure that you do. 5 stars.

April 2014
The location was great. Great place for walks and bike rides and a central location for drives to other places slightly further afield. Cottage was very comfortable and suitable for all weathers; cosy when raining and lovely garden when warm. Highly recommend the property, the owners have completed a lovely renovation of an old workers cottage which now has all the mod cons. A very relaxing break!

We had a lovely holiday at Pear Tree cottage. The owners had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable and were very helpful. The cottage was very well equipped and had everything we required for a self catering holiday. The garden was very pleasant to sit in, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. The area has many places of interest to visit nearby and we will definitely return to Whittington and Pear Tree cottage next year!

The cottage was very comfortable to come home to at the end of a day out. It was in a very convenient position in the village, with pubs, chip shop and shop nearby, yet had its own off-street parking. There were plenty of places to visit nearby and a range of walks, both easy and more challenging.

Shropshire is a lovely county, the scenery is stunning and the architecture of dwellings everywhere is fascinating. Pear Tree Cottage is a wonderful base for exploring the county, great for walking the dogs and two fine Inns within walking distance, dog friendly both.

This was our second visit to Pear Tree Cottage and it is still at the top of our best list. Viewing the guest book we noted the number of return clients and we think that this indicates how popular this cottage is. As stated before it is very comfy, lovely secluded garden, and extremely well equipped. Whittington is a lovely village with very close links to Shropshire and Wales. Along with the shoe horn ,previously mentioned in another post, there is a tape measure in the cupboard - they really do think of everything Although this property is managed by Sykes Cottages we have no doubt that the personal involvement and communication from John and Alison Hotchiss make all the difference. The welcome pack now includes biscuits instead of wine but equally welcome. We didn't realise first time around that this was a dog friendly property and wondered this time if there would be evidence of doggy occupation but we can honestly say that the cottage was spotless and aroma free, perhaps due to the care and attention of the very friendly housekeeper we met as were leaving, or maybe because dogs must stay downstairs. If you are looking for a quiet, well equipped, comfy, cottage in a lovely English village close to Wales then this is it.

I am extremely fussy when he comes to choosing holiday cottages. This cottage seemed to offer a comfortable base in a nice location. How true that was! The village of Whittington itself is small and has a lovely little castle with a moat that you can walk round (dogs allowed in the grounds too). There are also 2 pubs and a shop. What more could you need. The cottage is warm and cosy with everything in it that you need as a home from home. There are also extra touches that the owners have thoughtfully provided and there is a wealth of information in leaflets about the surrounding area. It was very clean and we would have no hesitation recommending it or indeed staying there again ourselves. One last note about the owners - we have been booking holidays in the UK for 10 years and these are the most helpful and friendly owners we have come across.

A fabulous cottage, furnished beautifully, with absolutely nothing lacking. John and Alison have thought of everything, from the welcome note to us (and our two dogs!) to the treats for them, and a welcome pack for us which included cake/eggs/milk/bread etc. There was even a shoe horn in the under stairs cupboard! The instructions for all the electrical items/heating/water etc were perfect, and there was a folder with very comprehensive instructions on what to see and do locally, where to eat, emergency services etc. There were games/jigsaws/books/DVDs for everyone from babies to adults. A perfect cottage for dogs too. Our two Golden Retrievers loved it. Walks from the door, and they could also run off lead at Whittington Castle, just ten minutes walk away. A visit to Oswestry Old Fort was also great for them, as they could run free there too, so long as you stayed within the English Heritage footpath, as this kept them away from any livestock. The kitchen and conservatory were perfect for them too, as the floor was quarry tiled, so could be mopped out when they came in mucky from a walk. And as there was a stairgate at the bottom of the stairs, they could sleep in there overnight, and still know that we weren't far away. Several local pubs were dog friendly too, and in fact fed them chicken or treats and brought them water too!! I couldn't recommend Pear Tree Cottage enough. Thanks John and Alison for keeping the cottage so beautifully.

The cottage and the many visitor attractions in the area. We had a great time here, Pear Tree Cottage is a superb place to stay, as far as I'm concerned it wants for nothing. The proprietors have made a great job of this place and have put a lot of thought into what the guests may need, a credit to them.

We carried out a lot of research to find the best cottage for our family of 4 adults and it was satisfying to be proved right. We all loved this place, the welcome pack included wine, the garden was a secluded haven and the village was perfect. 2 pubs with good food - you have to book at busy times, convenience store, chippy and a castle with a cafe. Great location for all of Shropshire and Wales. Cottage very well equipped, good parking, nice chatty neighbours, church bells. The description is very accurate and don't be put off by the outside view- inside it is cottage and cosy. Breakfast in the conservatory - wonderful ! We do have to say the 2nd bedroom is small but our two full sized adults loved it and thought it was ideal. Bathroom downstairs was no problem ,plenty doors between it and other accommodation and 2nd toilet upstairs is very handy. Would we go again ? We are already planning our next stay. Oh! And the owners were very helpful , with phone calls, emails etc to make sure we got there and everything was ok. Great holiday.

The cottage was an excellent base for touring the area. Everything about the cottage was relaxing and it made the holiday more enjoyable. The outlook onto the garden was brilliant, which was full of all types of plants, trees and shrubs. All furniture was very comfortable.

Pear Tree Cottage is in a great location with Oswestry only about 10 minutes drive away and is centrally located for day trips to north and central Wales and the Midlands. The village has a good general store and 2 local pubs just a few minutes walk away. John and Alison have taken great care to ensure that your stay is very comfortable.
