Pheasant Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
This sympathetically restored nineteenth century cottage, made from traditional stone in the rural hamlet of Bellshill, lies only two miles from the pretty village of Belford. A short drive from the sweeping Northumberland coast, this cottage has fantastic, panoramic views to Budle Bay, Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands, not forgetting the impressive Heritage Coast. Decorated in a crisp, modern style and tastefully furnished, this period home still manages to retain much of its old-world charm. With sleeping room for four people, a wood burning stove in the spacious living room and a fantastic outdoor eating space so that you can enjoy the fabulous scenery, Pheasant Cottage makes an excellent base for those wishing to explore the region, whether you've come with family or friends.

Situated in the heart of Northumberland's heritage countryside, between the popular walled towns of Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed, is the picturesque village of Belford. With the sunbathed beaches and impressive castle of Bamburgh only a short drive away, the charming coaching village of Belford is well placed for those who fancy a seaside break and the chance to enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle. As an old coaching village, Bamburgh is well equipped to cope with today's travellers and offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. For golf enthusiasts, there is even a nine-hole course. Surrounded by the Cheviot foothills, the Northumberland Heritage Coast and the Scottish Borders, this quaint village is fantastically placed for easy access to everything the region has to offer.

Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

Pheasant Cottage was clean and comfortable with every home comfort catered for. It was close to everywhere we wanted to go with the A1 very easily accessible.

As returnees, it was like coming home and even the neighbours welcomed us back. The cottage was superb as ever, even though it had been well used (according to the visitors book) over the last season. Both the owners and cleaner do an excellent job maintaining a very high standard. We will be returning again.
Mrs Wilson
September 2015
It was very handy for accessing coastal walks and also the Cheviots. It was just off the A1 but very quiet with outstanding views to Bamburgh and the coast. Sunrises, great skies and rich birdsong - an artist's dream! The cottage was very comfortable, warm, well appointed and overall excellent. There was a lot of care given by the owners so that their customers enjoy their holiday.

A perfect little cottage, in a peaceful location and made an excellent base for exploring the beautiful North East Coast. The cottage was so clean and cosy and the owners had included so many thoughtful welcoming touches. The facilities were excellent, the kitchen well-equipped. The log burner was a lovely treat too and made for cosy evenings in relaxing playing games, watching films and unwinding. A wonderful find!

A lovely location and comfortable cottage, especially the bed. Easy to travel to different places of interest but also relaxing to stay around the cottage, we loved the birds and the view of the coast was lovely. A nice touch by the owner providing a telescope for viewing.

October 2013
You would be hard pushed to find a better equipped, more cosy, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing holiday rental in the entire country. The location is perfect for local amenities, (very good supermarket, pubs and restaurants nearby) and for walking inland, or coastal and Holy Island excursions, they are within easy reach. Full marks to the owners for all their careful thought and considerations. An A+ place to stay.
Mrs Tew
May 2014
Fantastic base from which to visit that part of Northumberland. We liked it because of the fairly private, remote, and rural location yet close enough to roads from where we could explore. The decor, cleanliness and thought that had been given to supply us with everything we required was second to none. Brilliant cottage in a wonderful part of the world. Without a doubt we will be back and would recommend to anyone.
Mr Swabey
September 2013
The property was relatively isolated and peaceful, with beautiful views. The property was to a high standard, and the log burner, and under floor heating, was a wonderful bonus.
Mrs Lansberry

Pheasant Cottage was a lovely place to stay. The owners obviously care that visitors have a good experience, and went the extra mile with facilities and extras. Cottage was very comfortable. Having not visited Northumberland before there was lots of information available about the area which started us off. We would definitely return.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Pheasant Cottage as it was everything we had hoped for; an extremely comfortable, relaxing and well appointed property. It is in a very quiet area perfectly positioned for getting about with lots of National Trust properties within easy reach. We would recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from it all and just enjoy Northumberland, as we did. A lovely holiday.
Mr Scullion
June 2011
The ease with which it was organised for us by Sykes. The owners of the property provided books, dvds and a lot of little touches that made this home from home.
Mrs Forster
June 2011
The property was in the perfect position ie just off the A1 but not close enough for any traffic noise. The views are beautiful and it is close to the National Park, Farne Islands, Holy Island and many other attractions. We were also able to get the train from Berwick and spend the day in Edinburgh. The cottage is very smart but not so smart that you feel uncomfortable using any of the furniture or equipment. Everything was in good working order and there was a welcome pack. Towels, slippers and bath robes were beautifully laundered and made available for use.
Mrs West
May 2011

One of the best cottages we have stayed in. The owners have thought of everything you may need. The property was very clean, and the information pack was extremely informative. The views at the front of the cottage were stunning and the telescope was a great addition.

September 2008
The whole cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished, with everything that was needed. There's so much to see and do in Northumberland, but it was just so difficult to tear ourselves away from the cottage, and its spectacular views and bird life. We would like to thank the owners for going the extra mile to make their cottage the little bit of heaven it is. We would also like to say how pleasant Sykes Cottages were throughout our booking and how easy and hassle free it all was - the lady we spoke to couldn't have been more polite and helpful.

Lovely cottage, peaceful location, beautiful views and plenty of places to visit.

September 2008
The cottage was idyllic. We felt that it should be awarded the highest grade possible. The owners have gone to so much trouble to make this an outstanding holiday cottage. The attention to detail was fantastic. Lovely rural location with fantastic panoramic views. More than we could possibly have imagined!
August 2016
Our main concern when booking this cottage was the potential for traffic noise as it's so close to the A1, but we needn't have worried as it was wonderfully quiet and the views to Bamburgh Castle were a real bonus. The house itself is very tastefully furnished and the main living space and dining area we found very comfortable. The kitchen is super small but all the appliances were fully functioning, although some families may miss the lack of a separate microwave. The beds in both bedrooms were the main problem for us, the mattress in the double room was too soft for our liking and the twin beds were not best suited to two young teenaged boys. We didn't find the outdoor eating space too appealing as the bbq was tipped onto the ground and the sight of a large gas tank close by was a turn-off. However the peaceful front garden with regular visits from rabbits was lovely. The wifi wasn't working for us, but we took it as an opportunity to unplug from the net for a few days. The collection of books, dvd's and welcome hamper were all very welcome and any minor issues we had were very promptly dealt with by the owner. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay and just a little extra care would have made it even more special.

September 2010
Beautiful views from the cottage over to Bamburgh Castle and the distant light from the Longstone Lighthouse. The cottage was clean, and very well equipped.
October 2011
The cottage was of a very high standard, comfortable, warm and well equipped. There was a welcome hamper awaiting us, which was a lovely surprise! The cottage was well situated and close to Bamburgh's lovely beach, and other attactions along the Northumbrian coast.

August 2014
This cottage is so clean and cosy. The owners have put a lot of effort into making your stay so comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped. There is a welcome pack on arrival which is a treat, and some lovely little perks such as a small wash pack in the bathroom and a dressing gown to use. The warm towel rail in the bathroom is great too. The views are fantastic and you can see bamburgh castle lit up at night and the lighthouse which is lovely. We will certainly be staying again.
December 2009
The cottage was very conveniently situated to the main route through Northumberland and yet was just off the beaten track and so peaceful. There were fantastic views over open countryside to Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and well equipped with everything you could possibly need including bathrobes and binoculars! The front garden was as good as a bird sanctuary with numerous birds visiting the bird feeders. The back garden had a lovely view up to the woodland and had a barbecue provdided. We will be trying to book for 2010 as we just did not have time to visit all the places in Northumberland in just one week - there is so much choice - excellent beaches, amazing castles, etc. I cannot think of anything to say against the cottage in Belford - it was fabulous.
December 2009
A lovely old single storey cottage with a very simple and modern interior Beautifully clean with a light and bright atmosphere and gorgeous views of the coast. A real pleasure to return to after many walks and explorations in Northumberland.

December 2009
The cottage was very easy to find from the travel details and booking was very easy. The house was very comfortable with everything you needed in the very well stocked kitchen. The lounge was very comfortable and the adition of a telescope in the bedroom was excellent. It is set in a very quiet area with a great view over-looking Bamburgh Castle. The garden was filled with bird feeders and many an hour was spent watching the Greater Spotted Woodpeckers feeding. Everything was excellent and would be a wonderful base for anyone who liked to watch birds in a wonderful garden.
