We were fortunate to have excellent weather! The standard of the property and friendliness of our welcome served only to improve the experience. To anybody used to holidaying in the more remote parts of Scotland where basic shopping can be a problem I would like to stress the accuracy of your description of the local store and add that it stocks the products of an excellent local bakery.

We had invited friends from Denmark to join us and we were so pleased that everything was presented at such a high standard. The welcome basket of milk, teabags, teacakes and honey, plus local newspaper was very kind and thoughtful. The owners of the cottage were also very warm and welcoming on our arrival which all helped to make us relaxed ready for our holiday. In addition we enjoyed lovely weather the whole week - what more could we ask for!? There was honestly nothing more anyone could have done to improve our opinion of Quince cottage or of Sykes' organisation. Many thanks to all!

January 2013
Quince Cottage is a beautiful, homely cottage. The facilities were excellent and the owners have thought of everything the holiday maker would require. Excellent quality throughout the house from the bedding to crockery. The welcome couldn't have been lovlier with fresh flowers, wine, walnut cake and a tea tray ready for us. Our weather wasn't brilliant but it was great knowing we had the cottage waiting for us at the end of a blustery day with a roaring fire to keep us warm.
Marilyn Hughes
October 2013
Great welcome from one of the owners with cake, wine etc. Also lots of helpful suggestions about Northumbria (backed up by many maps & books). The cottage was a real home from home with clean, modern facilities but lots of books & Dvds and personal touches. We also loved that two good pubs,a butchers,a paper shop & a wonderful little deli/supermarket were right round the corner. A very friendly village too and a perfect centre for exploring the coast, Cragside, Simonside Hills etc.If the shrubs in the front garden were cut back a bit the living room would be a lot lighter but the rear courtyard garden is a lovely little hideaway.
December 2013
very relaxing stay in a small cosy cottage ###
May 2015

The booking arrangements were effortless and efficient. Quince cottage was well positioned making it easy to access all places of interest within the area and was clean, cosy and comfortable with much attention to detail evident. The local shop was amazing with so much choice and the meat from the village butcher was truly delicious.Local people were friendly, helpful and appeared genuinely happy and contented with life.
September 2010
The cottage was immaculate yet had a lovely, homely feel. The welcome basket was a delight as were the owners. We had a problem with a leak which was fixed immediately. Personalised tour guide leaflets really make you feel special with ideas for days out to suit all tastes - can't wait to return!!
August 2015
Our first time in Northumberland and this was a great place to base ourselves for Hadrian's Wall to Lindisfarne and the coast. It was cosy and very well appointed, with lots of extras to make it feel like home, such as the tea and cake on arrival, the rows of books and DVDs and of course the fire. We needed it even in August. The other thing to recommend this cottage is the village itself. You have everything you need from the paper shops, very well stocked grocer, the butcher, the pub and the pub restaurant. We loved doing the shopping in the morning and having a chat with the very friendly staff. Definitely recommended. Be aware there's no wifi and iffy phone reception, but you can get reception at the pub across the road if you need it.
