We loved everything about our holiday. Railway Cottage was situated in a brilliant location and was very handy to everywhere. I would highly recommend the cottage to all my friends and family.

The whole family loved staying at railway cottage; we would all either run outside when we heard a train or go on the balcony! Amazing views from the back of the house. Very easy and quick to get into the town and beach even with small children. Cottage felt very homely and had all the essentials that are needed for a relaxing holiday.

A superb property one of the best we have stayed in, very quiet and although next to railway line this did not cause any problems; if anything this added to our enjoyment sat on our balcony to watch the steam train go by. We loved it here.

Lovely position and the house was beautiful with everything you could need. The walk into Whitby from the property was nice and flat.

Everything was wonderful from the excellent accommodation, the friendliness of the owner when we rang with a question, the location by the railway line for our twin grandchildren and Whitby itself which had everything you want for a family holiday. We also had excellent service from you, the letting company as you were friendly, helpful and patient at all times.

There was plenty to do in Whitby and the food was superb in all the restaurants we chose. Regarding the accommodation, the master bedroom was very nicely furnished with a good firm bed. We loved the balcony and en suite. The house was well equipped with quality furnishing and one of the best we have stayed in. The trains are no problem whatsoever and in fact were a novelty to watch.

The location was really close to Whiby town centre. Even though the trains ran behind the cottage you could hardly hear them. All the rooms were spacious and well furnished. Perfect!

Superb location, wonderful views of the Abbey and Harbour. It was great to see the steam trains rolling past each morning and afternoon. We particularly loved the patio area to sit outside in - thankfully we were blessed with warm, sunny weather. There was lots of space in the cottage for our party of eight. My wife and I had the penthouse with balcony and en suite bathroom, which couldn't be bettered. We came with close family to celebrate my 60th birthday and all in all it was an unforgettable holiday. Whitby never disappoints and this cottage was the best accommodation we have had in 25 years of coming here. Worth every mile of the long journey from Hertfordshire!

We found this cottage a perfect stay. It overlooks the railway line into Whitby, which serves both the national railway and preserved NYMR. There was nothing to fault with the accommodation, well equipped and decorated. In addition, although we were just a couple it would easily sleep eight so bags of room. Another bonus was the strong WiFi, which I certainly welcomed. Location wise was perfect, as it was an easy 10 minute walk into Whitby (to the rail station and Co Op), whilst been on the outskirts it was easy to get to by car. Plus it has its own off-road parking space outside the front door. The only thing I might have done better would be to offer a complemantary bottle of wine and / or bottle of milk on arrival, but then that is just nitpicking... Plus, no guest book; it is always nice to read other guests comments.

The nicest and most well appointed cottage we have stayed in within Whitby. It was comfortable, warm and beautifully furnished.

It was the first time my family and I had been to Whitby and it was a most enjoyable experience. The house being located alongside the railway was ideal for any train enthusiast. Even if you were not into trains, the view of the Abbey and riverside were excellent. The Railway Cottage was within easy walking distance of the town centre and was a convenient area to explore the Yorkshire moors.

Whitby is a great place to stay. The cottage was situated alongside the railway track behind the car park near the Co-Op (5 min walk). Perfect location. Over 3 floors with the master having its own balcony. Overall a great holiday.

May 2014
The location and size of the property made it excellent value for money. Four generations of our family along with our two dogs were accommodated comfortably. We found lots of things to do in Whitby, but it was also a lovely cottage to stay and relax in. We are definitely considering booking again next year. We found it to be an excellent cottage situated in a lovely place with lots to see and do.

March 2014
We had a fantastic time in Whitby, made all the better by this accommodation. The owner sent me as much info as possible, before we travelled, about places to eat and places to leave well alone. The cottage is beautifully furnished, very clean, well equipped and the absolute bonus was that we could take our little dog. We will definitely be booking again!

In a superb position this house was ideal for our weekend in Whitby. We needed a house that was comfortable for a party of 6 adults and this was ideal. It was beautifully furnished and equipped.

This is a really high standard self catering cottage, and if you like trains, you'll love the steam engine which passes by four times a day. Even for non train lovers its a good location, about 10 minutes level walk to the centre of Whitby. We plan to return.

This was an extended family holiday from 11 month old to grandparents. The location is great right next to the North York Moors Railway line so you get close up views of the steam trains - kids loved it and so did we. Close to harbour and river walks, 5 to 10 minutes easy walk from town centre 15 minutes to the Magpie and band stand. 2 car parking plus on street parking close by - great for us coming in 3 cars. Lounge is laid back and comfy - good heating system but the house is very well insulated too so after 2 cooler days heating went off. kitchen well laid out with plenty of equipment. Take oven gloves though couple of pans got very hot handles! Double oven, but unfortunately top door did not close fully so cooking Sunday lunch was more difficult. getting all the negatives out of the way the top floor shower was temperamental and the lights were out in the main bathroom - difficult to shave. But for these niggles the review would have been excellent. Plenty of space good decor and the great location. Owner was very helpful and the booking process with Sykes cottages was painless. would recommend for a family holiday.
Mr Parsons
November 2013
The overall standard of the cottage was excellent. Clean, well furnished, smart and with every facility you could wish for. It's location, notwithstanding the railway, which was no issue at all, was fantastic. So nice to not have to worry about parking in Whitby.
Mr Clayton

November 2012
We liked the location of the property. We have a small baby so the fact we were far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the centre, yet only within a five minute walk away was perfect.
Mrs Lax
October 2012
The kitchen was as well equipped as ours at home.

The cottage was fantastic we and our friends had nothing but praise for the position. So close to Whitby, and the added enjoyment of having steam trains at the bottom of the garden.

A beautifully furnished home which was well equipped and exceptionally clean, couldn't fault it.
Mrs Brown
May 2015
The house was great; it was clean and very nicely decorated and we particularly loved the children's room. We had everything we needed and it was very close to Whitby town centre. The two parking spaces were a real bonus as we have paid extra in the past for parking. There was an issue with the dishwasher and the owner came out straight away to sort it which was great. He also gave us some tips of places to eat.
Steam buffs ideal cottage.
January 2014
Usual first class service from Sykes. One of the best cottages we've stayed in.Being a railway buff it couldn't be any better and amenities excellent.Everything about the cottage was ideal if a fault has to be picked it would be the white carpet in the living room and bringing a dog into it.
