Liked how well-equipped the cottage was and being able to walk from the cottage into glorious countryside; map routes were provided with photocopies of walks already highlighted. Also the 24/7 vending machine in the nearby pub, how quiet it was at night and how bright the stars were on a clear night.

It was a relaxing experience with lots to do in the area, and a chance to get away from the daily routine to be somewhere different, with beautiful scenery, and the sound of animals around. It was a nice place to stay, which was comfortable in the evenings, and had everything that we needed.

Excellent welcome, care and attention from owners. They invited us in for a wedding anniversary meal when we were snowed up! In the bitterly cold weather, the cottage was warm and draught-free. Location was excellent. Lovely village church and pub

Ramblers Rest was a delightful cottage, and though it was a small apartment it managed to be light, spacious and airy. We enjoyed staying in it very much. Brassington is a lovely village with two delightful pubs selling good food and beer. There were also many walks from the front door of the cottage.

Wonderful property in a beautiful location. It is furnished to a high standard, with a very well equipped kitchen. We very much enjoyed sitting out in the garden of an evening watching the sun go down. The owners were lovely people, very friendly and helpful in passing on their knowledge of the local area. It was absolutely perfect! Highly recommended.

September 2011
Excellent base for sight-seeing. The owner was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was cosy and everything that was needed was at hand.
December 2015
Cosily warm; very well-equipped; extremely warm welcome from owner. I wanted a week out in peace and quiet and very much enjoyed the week. Especially appreciated walking in the countryside without needing to use a car, and the very thoughtful information about walking routes which Sue had organised in the cottage - photocopies of maps with routes already highlighted. Brilliant! There's a small vending machine in the pub across the road where you can but basics like bread and milk 24/7.

Thisis a delightful cottage in a beautiful little village. It was a perfect base to visit Dovedale, Bakewell, Tissington, Matlock etc. There is a breathtaking walkfromthe back of the cottage to Carsington Water. Upon our arrival there was milk, tea, coffee and even some biscuits which were most welcome after our journey. The cottage was spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend.
May 2015
Lovely cottage and great location for exploring the Peak District, the landlady was lovely and friendly, however the neighbours in the attached cottage were very unfriendly and rude as were the landlords in the two local pubs.also no phone reception or wi-fi - would recommend though.
August 2014
We had a lovely weekend in Brassington, nice walks and a picturesque village - great little cottage, very compact but with everything we needed. Our weather wasn't always great but we had a good afternoon curled up with cake, hot chocolate and a few DVDs and played chess in the pub in the evening.
August 2013
We stayed for a week and the owners were very helpful but sufficiently hands off, so we didn't see them all the time, but they were there when we needed them. Ideally located in a beautiful little village with good road connections. Walks available right from the door (it's a nice walk to Carsington). Kitchen was very well equipped and quite spacious, we took things we didn't really need. Bathroom was also quite big- shower was very roomy. Bed was comfy (always a plus) and there were plenty of DVDs and videos to keep us occupied in the evening after a visit to one of the local pubs. Lots of things to do and see in the local area; some cheap, some pricey (something for everyone). A lovely romantic getaway and would recommend to family and friends.
January 2013
We enjoyed our stay in Rambler's rest. The property is comfortable and manages to be both compact and spacious with a beautiful view across the hillside. The village has many walks and two excellent pubs serving good food, which makes the property particularly suitable for short breaks.
July 2012
This cottage wasn't big but it was charming, had everything you needed, lovely views and was clean and well decorated. The owner was very friendly and helpful. An ideal base for exploring the peak district and excellent value. The village itself has a pub called the Gates which does excellent food at reasonable prices too. Have already recommended it to parents and friends!
