Rectory Cottage description

Holiday home
Rectory Cottage is a beautifully renovated old church hall of unique architectural design at the end of a quiet lane in the hamlet of Wilby near the village of Old Buckenham in Norfolk. With one double bedroom and two twins as well as a family shower room, this cottage can sleep six people. Also in the cottage is an open plan living area with a fitted kitchen, a dining area and a sitting room with a woodburning stove. Outside the cottage is off road parking for two cars and a lawned rear garden with a patio area and outdoor furniture. Guests may also be able to use the owners' outdoor swimming pool during summer, by arrangement with the owners. With the whole of Norfolk to discover, Rectory Cottage is sure to have something for everyone.

Old Buckenham is reputed to have the largest village green in Britain. It has its own church, castle and a windmill, which is reputed to be the largest tower-windmill in the UK. This surprising village even boasts its own airfield and it is not uncommon to see vintage aircraft taking off or landing here. The only pub in the village dates back to the 17th Century and, while it serves good food, there are other places to eat in the nearby towns and villages, such as New Buckenham, Kenninghall and Banham. For other attractions, Banham has its own zoo and you can go to Snetterton to observe the high-octane thrills of its regular race-meetings. Old Buckenham is also perfectly situated to explore the famous Norfolk Broads and its canal system, whilst the beautiful Norfolk Coast is only a short drive away.

Picturesque rolling Fens, unspoilt beaches, and pretty waterways – East Anglia is a dream holiday destination. Norfolk offers beaches, saltmarshes and quaint villages whilst equally as charming are the coast and countryside of Suffolk.

Oil underfloor heating with woodburner. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, DVD, radio. Fuel, power and fuel for stove inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Shared off road parking for 2 cars. Lawned rear garden with patio and furniture. Two well-behaved dogs welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 2.5 miles. Note: Spiral staircase with rope banister, may be unsuitable for less mobile guests and children to be supervised. Note: Double bedroom is a gallery room and partly overlooks living area below. A great retreat in a quiet village. The cottage is like a home from home with a lovely garden perfect for our dog and sitting out.

We found the owners of the cottage very helpful but not intrusive. A lovely relaxing holiday within easy reach of places to go. A lovely cottage with plenty of room for 6 people and 2 dogs without getting under each others feet, and a garden for children and dogs which was enclosed.
Miss Probert

The cottage had a very welcoming atmosphere and far surpassed our expectations. The owners were very friendly and very helpful. It was very quiet and peaceful, we really enjoyed the countryside. There was plenty of living and bedroom space, even if there were 6 people there it would not be crowded. We would very much like to return one day and will recommend it to others.

This was my 4th visit to Rectory Cottage with family, friends and dogs. We all love the peace, tranquillity and quietness of this property. The cottage is quirky and has lots of history but is very well equipped, cosy, well-heated and comfortable. I have already recommended it to my sister and brother-in-law who have 3 children and a dog. They would love it!

April 2016
Rectory Cottage was very homely and the under floor heating was fantastic after a cold day out. We found it easy to travel to and from on day trips.
September 2013
We all enjoyed our stay in this cottage it was very well equipped and had a lot of character and quirky features which we loved. Our party included my 90 year old mother and having one of the bedrooms on the ground floor was perfect for her. We loved the spiral staircase and galleried bedroom. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The only downside was the sound of racing cars from somewhere near by which spoiled the peaceful surroundings of the pretty garden, this couldn't be heard from inside the house though and was not something the owners could do anything about. Would like to stay there again one day in the future when hopefully the weather will be a bit kinder to us.
September 2011
Owners lovely, but huge disapointment in respect of the swimming pool for two reasons: 1. It was immediately outside the owners kitchen which wasn't told to us , so a tad embarrasing to use. 2. When the pool was uncovered it filled with thousands of ants falling in from nests at the side of the pool and none of us fancied "swimming with ants" !!! As we had two teenage girls with us and we booked the accommodation because it had a pool, we were very disappointed.
