Riverside Lodge description

Holiday home
Set in a private marina on the River Lark, this Scandinavian-style, wooden lodge is on the border between Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, just a mile from the village of Isleham. With free fishing all year round, trips on the owner's rowing boat and a delightful river-fronted garden with decked area, this lovely property is ideal for people who just want to spend a few weeks messing around on the river. Decorated in a clean, modern style, this lovely lodge is able to sleep four people in one ground floor double room and one first floor twin room with a balcony that overlooks the outdoor dining area. The main living space of the property is open-plan and comes with a well-equipped fitted kitchen with breakfast bar and a sitting area with patio doors leading onto the veranda.

Situated in the south east corner of Cambridgeshire, the rural village of Isleham is well placed for access to the towns of Newmarket and Ely. Boasting three churches, three good pubs, a 24-hour Co-op supermarket and a post office, this lovely village makes the ideal location to enjoy a relaxing break. Free fishing is available all year on the River Lark which runs parallel to the village whilst Newmarket offers a range of good shops and excellent horse-racing at its famous track. As one of the smallest cities in Britain, Ely possesses a beautiful cathedral and an incredibly picturesque riverside walk, along which is the prize-winning tea-room, Peacocks, and a three storey antique shop housed in an old mill. The city of Cambridge itself is worth visiting and guests can take a punting tour along the river Cam to explore the various colleges.

Picturesque rolling Fens, unspoilt beaches, and pretty waterways – East Anglia is a dream holiday destination. Norfolk offers beaches, saltmarshes and quaint villages whilst equally as charming are the coast and countryside of Suffolk.

Gas central heating with underfloor heating in shower room. Air conditioning. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, 2 x TVs with Freeview, DVD, CD/radio, WiFi, selection of books, games and DVDs. Fuel and power inc. in rent. The Lodge was fantastic, just perfect for a relaxing break. The open plan was nice and we greatly enjoyed the geese and ducks which congregated on the water at the bottom of the garden each time you went outside, very amusing. Lodge was clean, modern and great speedy support from the nominated contact when we had need of some assistance. Lovely facilities, will visit again for sure!

May 2014
We thoroughly enjoyed the Riverside Lodge, its location is idyllic. The house is perfectly equipped, a home from home, I actually preferred its kitchen to my own! The fens are breathtakingly beautiful; the fields, the vast skies, the lines of gently swaying poplars, and the ubiquitous silhouette of Ely cathedral on the horizon. We loved our cycle rides, met friendly locals and enjoyed the sights.
Mrs O'Brien

Everything stated in the brochure was correct. The accommodation is in a lovely part of the county and is very peaceful, a great place to unwind just enjoying the bird life on and around the water. Pleasant people all to willing to stop and chat and to point you to all those lovely little hideaway places that only the locals know.

Riverside Lodge was a very comfortable base for our holiday. The accommodation itself was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for a self catering holiday. The location is peaceful and quiet and it was lovely to sit outside on the terrace and eat alfresco. All in all a lovely holiday.

Very peaceful, the design layout was very good and clean. The decking was a great asset, and being able to park the car so close to the lodge was brilliant. Even though some of the days were cold the patio doors are of such good quality, that we could be near the patio door without getting cold, to take in the view.

The peace and quiet, the river at the end of the garden, the boat, the standard of everything was superb and there was now a door to the bedroom, not a curtain. The village was close and had a co-op and opposite the marina a farm selling there own meat.

We had an excellent time which was helped by the nice weather that week. The lodge was lovely, clean and tidy and we caught lots of fish. We will certainly be going back.

The setting of the lodge and the actual lodge itself was impressive. The balcony, table and chairs added to the ambiance. The small boat provided gave us the opportunity to look at the surroundings from the waters edge and introduced us to other people within the area. The cottage is delightful and beautifully furnished. The position is lovely, and was ideal for my purpose. There was plenty to interest us and the sitting area was spacious and comfortable. April 2015
We enjoyed our stay here and will return any time. The cottage offers all the amenities needed for a quality but quiet holiday.
June 2015
Lovely stay, the lodge has a modern kitchen and is light and airy with amazing view from both inside the lodge and from the much used balcony. We were blessed with some lovely eveings so it is ideal to sit in the evening sun on the balcony. The lodge would benefit from some TLC in the cleaning/manitenance departments but was more than adequate for our our stay. The bed and sofas are different from the pictures advertised and no DVD as stated(brought to the attention of the owner) The lock is an issue and the decking in the garden needs some attention. Take care when using the boat as it can tip very easily. This property is not suitable for disabled due to the steps that need negotiating to enter the property. The garden is lovely when you have a dog and so you can sit by the edge of the water and feed the ducks and swans. Great for bird watching too. Lovely walks in and around Isleham and trips to Ely, Wicken Fen and Thetford Forest are a must. Despite small grumbles would still be happy to return.
January 2013
Despite a good 5 cent of snow on the sunday and a freezing week, we had a lovely time. The Lodge was so cosy and warm the whole week, and apart from an electric kettle we couldn't have wanted for anything else. We visited Cambridge, using the park and ride, which for us oldies was perfect, We also spent several hours at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, an excellent day out, even for myself who is not a museum lover. We hope to return when the weather is better and sample the meals in the village pub and hopefully be able to fish in the marina!! Ideal for two adults and two children.

December 2012
This lodge is lovely, we returned for the second time this year. The lodge itself is lovely, spacious, clean and well equipped. The garden area also has everything you need for either relaxing or a bbq. My husband is a very keen angler and thought the fishing at the bottom of the garden was excellent. We will certainly be returning and would recommend to friends and family

What a gem of a place! This wasthe ideal place for a week of sightseeing in the area and just relaxing on the terrace in the sunshine. So quiet and relaxing it was just perfect. At night it was amazing to see so many stars! We even enjoyed the US army planes nearby! The lodge was all we could wish for - spotlessly clean and tidy and everything thought of for the guests. Loved having our own set of ducks to feed ! Plenty of good places to eat nearby - would recommend The Walnut Tree ineae Mildenhall especially. We had a perfect week and would definitely return for another time.

August 2011
We felt the lodge had the 'wow' factor. Cleanliness is a priority to us and there was nothing left wanting. We even managed the staircase quite easily. To be fair, the barbecue couldn't be found, but had it been vital I am sure we could have telephoned the owner who we had already found extremely amenable when making key-collection arrangements. We wanted a peaceful, restful holiday and that is what we got. We have shown photographs to family and friends who have shown active interest and now know the website.
July 2010
Besides the wildfowl onthe river, the ducks liked to sit on the roof. The blackbirds ,sparrows and robin loved to see if you had had breakfast on the verandah. We had a lovely ,sunny week and enjoyed the area.
August 2011
The house was perfect, everything was just perfect, the rooms were well furnished and the location was just splendid. We will be back.Sykes is the best holiday company we have used in over 40 years of holiday homes and for people on a fixed income not expensive.
December 2009
Well situated accommodation which was comfortable and well equipped. The waterside location was a particular bonus, enhanced by the availability of a boat which enabled us to enjoy Spring more widely. Pleased we were able to find such quality accommodation at short notice, well assisted by Sykes staff. A downside was the unavoidable noise of air traffic due to the flat terrain. Overall a very enjoyable break and we will consider returning at some stage.
February 2010
The Lodge was beautifully situated, very peaceful and well furnished. We did experience problems with the heating and hot water, which caused concern and some anxiety, but put it down to just a bit of bad luck! The owner was extremely helpful with this problem. Our main concern was the problem of sleeping accommodation - our Christmas break involved my husband, myself and daughter and husband. The double bedroom downstairs was delightful, but upstairs was very problematic. It wasn't so much negotiating the stairs, but the fact that you couldn't stand upright when you got there! In all fairness, I think this, and the fact that there is no bedroom door, only a curtain, should be made clear.
December 2009
the service we recieved from sykes was good and instuctiions for finding the key were good.i went with my husband and nephew so they could go fishing, the house is described as being near the river which it is but its just a small offshoot from the main river that is outside the house,so my menfolk had to walk to main river to was a nice house but the sofa's were uncomfortable, also the freezer in the shed didnot work inconvenient when you use deadbait to fish.the village is lovely but quite a long walk but has everything you need.we would consider going again.
December 2009
This Swiss style chalet was set amongst others all on the tributaries of the river. The setting started off the holiday perfectly. This was going to be the weeks best holiday for years. The accommodaton had a large lounge with sliding doors overlooking the verandah, garden, mooring and the river.A large downstairs bedroom with a most comfortable double bed and a shower room just off it with underfloor heating,oh how good to have warm feet when just coming out of the shower getting dried.A well fitted kitchen/diner finished off the downstairs accomodation.A further bedroom upstirs, albeit an open spiral staircase, possibly dangerous for very young children but fine for anyone else. This did not spoil it for us as there was only my wife and myself. I would highly recommend this accomodation as long as there were no small children if you enjoy peace and quiet with a wonderful relaxing setting. There are also some good walks from here.Just to round off all of this you also have your own boat!! Yes!! We would most definitely come here again.
