As a stop along both the Teesdale and Cleveland Ways, this village provides an excellent base from which walkers and cyclists can explore nearby Swaledale and Weardale. As well as the two main trails the are many bridleways, footpaths, cycle trails and lovely riverside walks to explore. Other local attractions include the magnificent Raby Castle in nearby Staindrop, the Bowes Museum, York's National Railway Museum, Durham Cathedral and the market town of Barnard Castle. The Lake District and Northumbrian National Park are also within reasonable driving distance.
