Rowan Tree Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
This is a beautiful detached stone cottage set in the owner's home grounds in the conservation village of Old Glossop. It is a charming property and offers spacious and comfortable accommodation for two people, perfect for a romantic getaway. The well-equipped kitchen is on open plan with the dining room and the lovely beamed sitting room is restful after a busy day's sightseeing. The double bedroom is a delightful relaxing haven and there is a light, bright shower room, whilst outside there is a charming enclosed patio garden with garden furniture and barbecue, just the thing for al fresco dining. The access to the cottage is via a footbridge from the roadside parking area, setting the scene for a magical holiday in a stunning location.

This millstone grit village is surrounded on three sides by the beautiful Peak District National Park. Old Glossop can be reached along the Snake Pass, aptly named because of the way it winds past dramatic and exceptional scenery. Around the original market square, the village has houses dating back to the 17th and 18th Centuries and a splendid Norman Church, with, rumour has it, a haunted vicarage. Eastwards on the Snake Pass will take the holiday maker past the Ladybower and Derwent Reservoirs, where the famous Dambuster Squadron practised. Nearby Glossop provides a range of amenities and access to the spectacular Peak District with the towns of Buxton and Castleton in the Hope Valley within easy reach. A fabulous holiday destination for the whole family.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Gas central heating. Gas cooker, microwave, fridge, washing machine, TV, DVD, library of books and games. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop 5 mins walk, pub 2 mins walk. Note: The property is accessed via a footbridge from the roadside parking area. This is suitable for wheelchair access.

The cosy cottage was very easy to live in. The heating and hot water were very efficient and the new shower was excellent. It was nice to have a small patio area for our sole use. The fresh eggs from the chickens were an added bonus. Old Glossop is a superb location with four pubs within easy walking distance. The nearest had live music on two nights of the week that we stayed. Most importantly there are many walks in the Dark Peak in close proximity. We would definitely return as the owners were friendly and accommodating.

Lovely cottage in an excellent location. The cottage had a lovely quaint feel to it, which was very relaxing. There are a number of supermarkets nearby that were ideal for anyone really wanting to do self catering. It's not too far to the train station. A few minutes walk in the opposite direction and you're in the Peak District National Park.

The cottage was very cosy, the owners extremeley friendly and even added some little extra's like a welcome tray and flowers. There are chickens in the garden from where we were allowed to help ourselves to the freshly laid eggs. The location was very central too for the Peak District and Yorkshire. All amenity's were near by.

June 2016
We stayed here for a week in June 2016. The cottage is ideally located for exploring the Peak District, most places are within 40-60 minute drive max. The cottage itself is cosy and comfortable for 2 adults. The kitchen is well equipped, and the shower room is very nice with a roomy corner shower. The village is quiet, the only noise at night is from the stream running at the end of the garden. Our only frustration was that the free view remote was slow to respond - hardly a big issue! Parking is ok, we found a space almost opposite the cottage every night. The walk from the cottage to the car was nice too as you have to cross the stream. The owners are welcoming, and once they have shown you round leave you to it. We were happy with this as the last thing we wanted was to feel 'checked up on'. That said, they are only at the end of the garden if needed. All in all, I would definitely recommend this cottage.

April 2007
The cottage was just the right size for the two of us. Despite the cold weather we were always cosy. We were pleased by the condition and the situation of the cottage. We do intend to visit again.
May 2013
Only real problem was finding the place, had ongoing argument with sat nav. Worth the effort. Beautiful, quiet setting and lovely welcome from the owners. Cottage was so cosy. Small but everything for a relaxing break. Marvellous walks on the doorstep, not to mention three dog friendly pubs (Glossop Triangle) within three or four minutes. Not sure who enjoyed it most, my wife and me or the dog. Can`t wait to go back.
October 2014
Stayed here in August for four nights with my wife we had no trouble finding the property with the sat nav only doubting that we had actually found the cottage as it is hidden away in the garden of the owners who greeted us very warmly showed us around the Cottage prior to us unloading the car and bringing our cases and supplies in. The cottage is located in a lovely quiet corner of the owners garden looking over a little stream with a small footbridge going over leading to a couple of good local Pubs doing hearty food and ale, walking in the other direction leads you to a Pub with an Indian Restaurant upstairs, walking further is a Fish and Chip shop very nice or if you walk through Manor Park you will reach Glossop City center in fifteen to twenty minutes where there are lots of shops and bars and Restaurants to choose from even a very good new Weatherspoons The Smithy Fold always a bonus for a night out. The Cottage is very quiet no noise at all ideal to chill in the decor upstairs is lovely nice new bathroom suite no bath but relaxing shower large comfy bed lovely views from the bedroom of old cottages and the stream, I found the downstairs let the cottage down slightly it has all you need but is basic and really needs updating settee lacks support and kitchenette has some good equipment but does not inspire fridge tucked away over in an alcove near other door a bonus was the downstairs cloakroom but all in all to dark and dowdy for the market they are in nowadays we did enjoy our stay but with improvements could have been so much better. The Location of the Cottage is great to explore Derbyshire with Buxton, Holmfirth, Castleton and the Peak District National Park all driveable also Manchester, Sheffield and Oldham on the train if you want to visit a City whilst in all this glorious countryside. We had a brilliant time at the Cottage lots to do places to see and great hosts that were friendly and helpful but not in your face the cottage was charming positioned ideally just let down as I said with the downstairs decor we would love to come back when it is a finished project as it could be amazing or may be completed it has been a few weeks since we stayed but thanks for having us PBV
August 2014
Lovely situation - I enjoyed crossing the bridge over the stream to get to the property. Able to go for long walks straight from the cottage. Warm, comfy cottage. In great part of the village - lovely stonework and villagey feel to the place but easy drive to the town centre for the usual shops etc. Very quiet. Owners friendly.
Mrs Bisatt
June 2016
The cottage was cosy, comfortable and ideally located.
January 2013
Lovely little cottage for a couple - cosy and comfortable. We struggled a bit with the boiler- it kept coming on noisily in the night but other than that perfect. Especially for country dwellers like us - it was no nice to have 3 pubs within 5 minutes walk, and a town within 15 minutes walk! There are 31 pubs within one mile of Glossop centre, not to mention good coffee shops, restauranats, takeaways - oh, and the Peak District literally within walking distance if the weather permits! The one disappointment was that previous visitors wrote constantly in the book about how friendly and welcoming the oweners were - but we only saw them on arrival and leaving. But it was dark by 4.30 so we didn't have much chance to see them.
March 2011
Need a place to re charge my batteries after working all over xmas & Rowan Tree Cottage was just the place to do just that, love cottage so peaceful, didnt really know the area but nice place to go for walks, definetly recommend the cottage & would definetly go again, the owners were very nice & the welcome pact of coffee & tea, plus the homemade biscuits & flowers was a lovely thought...
December 2009
