A beautiful cottage in a very peaceful spot. It was thoughtfully equipped and we enjoyed a very relaxing few days. There are some lovely walks very nearby, including gentle strolls along the canal paths. Worth walking into Walsden and taking the train to Hebden Bridge to explore.

The cottage is located in a perfect location for those wanting peace and quiet. The cottage was a superb size for our party of 5 along with our dog.The layout and the standard of fittings in the cottage were excellent and it was much bigger than we had expected. Overall if you're looking for somewhere peaceful I'd definitely recommend this cottage.

Everything was as promised in the brochure - a superbly and recently refurbished cottage with all mod cons including the cosy wood stove and the means to light it and keep it active. It was great huddling down in the warmth with a good book whilst the 100mph winds and torrential rain attacked the cottage with all the ferocity of a hurricane. Great! Nothing was missing in the household equipment and the instruction manuals in the cottage suggesting walks and places of interest were really comprehensive and well thought through. Would recommend the place to anyone.

Salter Rake Gate Cottage was beautiful, warm and inviting in every way. The design of the building, the decor and soft furnishings were tasteful, luxurious yet practical. The sofas and beds were all comfortable. We had plenty of space in the kitchen and round the dining table for convivial living. It was cosy with the wood burning stove and the views were dramatic. It's location was perfect for walking, cafes and shops. It was peaceful and instilled a lovely sense of calm. We didn't want to leave!

Salter Rake Gate Cottage was immaculate and perfectly set up for having dogs with us. The location and proximity to the moors and footpaths is just fantastic for walking. The renovation of the cottage is beautiful, really stylish and every detail is considered for a really comfortable and relaxing environment.

The cottage was warm and immaculate on arrival. It was tastefully decorated, with many thoughtful touches. Our boys and dog particularly liked the meadow behind the house and it was wonderful to be able to walk out from the house without having to drive. Had beautiful views and there was lots to do a quick drive from cottage.

The holiday was excellent in all aspects and I thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone visiting the area, especially if they have dogs with them. The open plan cottage works very well and the kitchen is perfect.

An outstanding cottage with great views. The cottage has plenty of space and character, everything you need for a home from home holiday. The cottage is perfect for family holidays with extra large lounge, fantastic family bathroom and shower room. Great location for walking or just staying in. Very welcoming owners.

This cottage is very spacious and has plenty of room for 6-7 people. The cottage has been furnished to an excellent standard and everything was provided that was needed. It is located in a beautiful setting high up and access is via a narrow road. Highly recommended if you want a peaceful location.

Great place to stay. Lovely basket of goodies on arrival. Felt at home and relaxed very quickly. Everything you need and more including a water bowl for the dogs. Very helpful file of local info and things to do and places to go. Plenty of good walks straight from the front door. Lots of places to eat within a short drive- Grandma P's chip shop in Walsdon is well worth a visit. Would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone.

As a family of 5, with a big, nervous dog who loves to walk, we chose this cottage as it seemed to offer a perfect location away from the town and with access straight onto the hills above. We were delighted when we got here, via a steep road, as it was lovely and secluded with just a handful of houses surrounding it. The location was perfect also for day trips out to wonderful places such as Hebden Bridge, Hollingsworth Lake, Heptonstall and further afield to Manchester. I would particularly recommend a walk up to Gaddings dam which was a lovely walk for the whole family to enjoy on a sunny day. We were also impressed with the cottage itself, which was much bigger than we had expected. The layout was just perfect for our family and the quality of fittings was to a very good standard. We loved the hard flooring downstairs which was very useful for our Labrador and also the open plan layout. The addition of a large shower room and bathroom as well as a downstairs toilet was also appreciated, since we had two older teenagers with us. I would therefore recommend this cottage and I would definitely return here.

Beautiful house with lovely views and thoughtfully equipped. Stayed for a few days to celebrate our wedding anniversary ...wonderful spot and we enjoyed some great walking from the cottage. Not really any need to get the car out as there are some lovely walks from the house and the railway at Walsden is a 20 minute walk along the canal ...from there regular trains to Todmorden, Hebden bridge ...and further. The house is very comfortable and the wood burner make it cosy in the evenings ...the owners have provided some really detailed information both about using the house, iinteresting information on how it was restored and a wealth of maps and walks. Would definitely go back Thank you Penny & Nigel.

Stayed at this cottage with my sisters and daughter for a short family break. The cottage is located high up and has superb views of the open countryside around. The property has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. There are 3 good size bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a downstairs toilet so plenty of room for 6-7 people. There is also a large kitchen which is fully equipped with everything you need and a large lounge and dining area. The woodburning stove was very cosy although there is central heating throughout. Lots of lovely walks to do close to the cottage. Would highly recommend to a family or friends wishing a peaceful and relaxing stay.

This has to be one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in, extremely well furnished, very comfortable and well equipped and also spacious for a cottage. The location and surrounding countryside is stunning. It is the perfect place to stay to explore Pennines, West Yorks.

We had seven of us plus our dog staying at this lovely cottage for my mother's 70th birthday. The downstairs rooms are spacious and comfortable, and there was plenty of room for all of us upstairs - a bonus to have two large bathrooms upstairs as well as a downstairs loo!. Kitchen is well-kitted out, which was great as we ate at home most nights. The cottage was impressively clean and the heating was most effective - never cold enough for us to light the stove! Fantastic to be able to walk up onto the hills directly from the house. Also good for young boys and not-so-young dog to have the meadow just to the back of the house. Lots to do in the area - especially walking - we will need to return several times to cover what we've missed! Be prepared for steep drive up from main road and the turning is easy to miss on your first arrival. Parking a bit tricky for more than one car - up a steep drive behind the house, but manageable. Penny and Nigel both very friendly and helpful.
