Stargazer Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Just four miles for picturesque Honiton lies the beautifully renovated barn conversion called ‘Stargazer'. This charming, end-terrace property is set over two floors and has been furnished to a very high standard. With a wonderful decked terrace, looking out over the beautiful Blackdown Hills this property has plenty to offer its visitors, not least al fresco dining. With the cathedral city of Exeter, the Devon and Dorset Heritage Coast and the wilds of Exmoor National Park all within easy reach, there is plenty to see and do in the local area during your visit.

Situated on the Devonshire border with Somerset is the little village of Upottery. Located in the heart of the Blackdown Hills - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – this lovely rural settlement is just five miles from the larger town ofHoniton. The narrow country lanes which wind along fields, hedgerows, woodlands and isolated farmsteads join beautiful thatched cottages, village inns and long country walks to larger market towns – like local Honiton. Once the centre of the UK lace industry, this lovely little settlement boasts a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants and is just fifteen minutes away by car. Well situated for the cathedral city of Exeter, the Devon and Dorset Heritage Coast, and the wilds of Exmoor, this is an excellent base for discovering Devon.

Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?

The location and scenery was amazing. The Owners were very welcoming and it was very quiet and peaceful, just what we wanted. My husband fished on a few occasions for a couple of hours at a time and was thrilled to catch some big mirror carp on two occasions.

The owners were so very helpful and made us feel very welcome. The property itself is a real 'Home from Home' very cosy, spotlessly clean and in a lovely condition. The view from the lounge over the garden and lake was so lovely and my husband enjoyed catching a fish!

The property was superb - everything had been thought of to make our stay thoroughly enjoyable. Paul and Eileen were excellent hosts: allowing us our privacy whilst maintaining contact in case we needed anything. The location was excellent and the view from the balcony was breath-taking. Own fishing lake was a bonus. We never go to the same place twice for a holiday but this is an exception - we'll certainly be going back ....and soon

Very comfortable accommodation. This property has 2 single beds downstairs, Upstairs there is a double bed. There is a walk in shower downstairs and a bath upstairs. Towels and linen is provided. There is limited storage in the kitchen. Be prepared to work out how the oven works. The hot tap was also loose. On letting the owners son know of these 2 problems - oven and taps we were informed they would be fixed on our departure. Be prepared to travel on narrow roads approaching the property. Decking is directly outside. To access the greenery of the lawn and garden need to open gating on the decking. Very dog friendly, but ensure that your dog is kept under control as there are nearby poultry and sheep farms. Farmers are prepared to shoot dogs who worry their livestock I was informed by another tourist.

Stargazer is a great place to stay. For less able folk there is a ramp upto the front door from the car park area and one from the french windows to the deck. Steps from deck to garden. This is a set of four cottages and the only one with its own garden. There is plenty of walking from the door for the dogs. The lane leading up to the farm is narrow, but only goes to a few local houses, other lets, the farm and the local Buddhist Temple - so is reasonably quiet. Close enough to the A30 to get to local attractions. And around 7 miles to Honiton with a couple of supermarkets. The cottage itself is lovely, uncluttered and cosy. I am not a fan of underfloor heating as it takes a while to warm up. But once it gets going the place stays lovely. Mobile phone reception is fine here. Owners very pleasant and farm eggs tasty.
December 2013
Very well presented spotless cottage with great views and added bonus of small fishing lake my husband was pleased.
September 2014
Located in a very rural part of Devon yet accessible to many coastal towns and villages. The property is as advertised and pictures do it justice. It has beautiful views and it is a very peaceful location. The lake is very pretty and lovely to walk around. The cottages are all pet friendly which is a must for us. The owners are on hand should there be any concerns and they aim to rectify any problems straight away.
May 2013
Beautiful view. Accomadation had everything required for our short break.Very pleasant owners. When booking Stargazer the staff on the end of the phone could not be anymore helpful than what they were. Great place to chill out and relax. Our dog loved his break too.
December 2011
Very well-appointed cottage, safe garden and a lake to fish in.We had really good weather, not sure how it would have been if we hadn't but there are lots of places to visit nearby and Honiton is lovely. The only downside was that there is no pub within walking distance!
