The Annexe description

Holiday home
The Annexe is set on the edge of Dyffryn Ardudwy, a mile or so from the coast of Cardigan Bay. There is a king-size double bedroom and a twin, and a shower room with shower, basin and WC. This single storey property also has a fitted kitchen, and a sitting room with a dining area and woodburning stove. Outside is a private patio area with furniture, as well as off road parking. The village of Dyffryn Ardudwy quietly nestles between The Rhinogs, part of the Snowdonia Mountains, and the golden beaches of the North Wales coastline. Boasting its own mild climate due to its unusual positioning, and an exciting array of wildlife and birds including soaring buzzards, this village provides good local shops and a good pub. The small town of Harlech is just 4 miles away, dominated by its majestic 13th Century castle which is a World Heritage Site, and the most impressive of all the castles built in North Wales by Edward I. Popular with golfers due to its famous Royal St. David's course, Harlech also boasts an excellent variety of amenities including some good quality restaurants. Nearby Barmouth offers an amazing Panorama Walk with breathtaking views and also a harbour from which you can enjoy a ferry to Fairbourne for a ride on the miniature railway or a boat trip out to sea to try mackerel fishing.

Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

A really lovely base from which to explore this stunning section of coastline. The cottage was presented to a very high standard with super comfy beds and extra fluffy towels. There is plenty of off road parking and it is easy to access from the road.

Absolutely fantastic! This property is a real home from home, better in fact. Everything you could possibly need if staying for a month! So clean and homely, beds really comfortable, garden is a joy. The owners could not have been friendlier or more welcoming! What more can I say? Stay here! We will next year for sure.

This was our second visit to The Annexe. We enjoyed the peace and quiet watching the birds in the garden. It was nice to have a safe garden for our dogs. The cottage has a real homely feel to it and is spotlessly clean and well equipped. It has had a new shower room fitted since our last visit which was very nice.

We love The Annex, although it is attached to the main house it feels separate. We have stayed here several times before and it never fails to please. It is also ideal for walking.

The Annexe is well situated with good views over the bay. A warm reception from the owners on our arrival made us feel at home and our two Westies were also made welcome.

The cottage was great! It was situated close to a gorgeous beach and was spotlessly clean. You were provided with everything you needed and more! It was a bonus to have the maps provided too as it meant we found local points of interest we perhaps may not have found otherwise. The patio and garden were lovely too.
Mrs Nicklin
June 2015
The cottage was immaculate, really comfortable and had everything you needed. The garden was lovely and the option of going into the paddock was brilliant for our golden retriever dog. We slept soundly every night, the beds were really comfortable and it was very peaceful. The owners were warm and welcoming, showed us around and told us about the local area. The cottage is in a perfect location to explore Barmouth, Harlech and Porthmadog. There is also a beach which is around a ten minute drive away which is brilliant for walking and also great for dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 'The Annexe' and would recommend to anyone.

June 2014
We were impressed by the high standard of accommodation provided by the owners. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner and his family and they have obviously put a great deal of thought into ensuring that everything which we may have needed for our comfortable stay was readily available. The furniture, beds and bed linen and towels were of excellent quality. The outside areas provided in the patio and access to the paddock proved invaluable to us as we had our two dogs on holiday with us. The local area was convenient for nearby shop and beaches.

The property was warm, cosy and welcoming. The property is very dog friendly, we have two Labradors who had a great time with lots of space for them to run in the owners grounds. Although The Annexe is attached to the owners property, we felt we had privacy and space.

The Annexe is in a good position in a lovely village, the owners were always on hand and happy to help, giving lots of tips on areas to visit within the area. The Annexe offered us everything we needed for our break, it was well equipped and clean. Would definitely stay there again if visiting that area of Wales.

June 2014
The Annexe was a lovely well presented property, very clean with everything we needed. The bed was extremely comfortable and all the bedding, towels and equipment were good quality. The garden and patio area was wonderful to sit in and fortunately the weather was hot and sunny the whole week. Although an annexe to the main property, it felt just like a house with plenty of space for us and our dogs. The garden was enclosed. Although situated on a main road, we did not notice much traffic noise and we could not see the road from the garden. It felt very private. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and the welcome basket was nice, particularly the doggy treats ! I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a peaceful holiday, close to a beautiful beach (walking distance but accessible by car). It felt like home.
Mrs Patterson

Walking distance to beach. Central location for the places we wished to visit. Lovely to walk on beach in morning, and then go to Coed-y-Brenin to walk in the forest in the afternoon. The Annexe was lovely and warm. Beds were really comfortable, and linen really fresh and clean. Towels really good quality.

This is a wonderful cosy cottage in a great location. Plenty of space, great facilities, and a fantastic garden. Additionally there was a private paddock attached for dog walking and general use, children to play. We had a warm welcome, and it was a great holiday. Would definitely recommend, and will be returning.

Our hosts were wonderful - very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We had everything we needed to ensure a peaceful holiday. The towels were big and fluffy and the bed linen was lovely. Both adults and dogs had a welcome basket. Very safe and secure for the dogs. They also let me help feed the 3 day old lambs. Altogether a lovely, clean and well equipped place to be. Just what we needed!

October 2012
It was a great base for the coast. The kitchen was fully equipped. Superb, soft, fluffy towels, sometimes it's the little things that make the difference.
June 2016
We visited the Annexe two years ago so I decided to do another review after our second stay as sometimes places change or standards slip. In this case we found the cottage to be just as good as before and in fact better with the addition of a new shower room. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The owners are lovely and gave us some beautiful eggs from their chickens. The garden is very pretty and safe for our dogs being enclosed. The beds are very comfortable and everything works perfectly unlike some cottages we have stayed in where the cheapest equipment is provided. It is such a beautiful area. The beach is my favourite spot, gorgeous sand and stunning views across the bay. We are happy to recommend the Annexe.

My husband, myself and our two teenage children stayed in this lovely cottage which had a great garden and patio. The adjoining paddock with views over the sea and tame sheep was a bonus!. Everything was provided for you to enjoy your stay. The owners were lovely and just allowed you to get on with your holiday. The beds were very comfortable and everywhere was spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated. OS maps provided were very useful as we did not know the area and made us find a fantastic picnic spot high above Llanbedr. The next road along in the direction of Barmouth called Fford Gors has a lovely wood and river walk ending in a riverside pub!. The local beach was amazing and the nearest town of Barmouth was just a five minute drive away. Mount Snowdon was about an hour and ten minutes drive away and well worth a visit, (although would not recommend walking to the summit on a very wet day, as we found out the hard way!). Overall a fantastic cottage and location. North Wales is a beautiful part of the world.
June 2014
The annexe while obviously being an annexe to the main house, is a nice sized property in its own right. Although it is situated on a main road, we did not notice the traffic once in the garden as it was shielded by trees and was very private and pretty to look at. The bed was very comfortable and all the equipment was good quality, including a decent washing machine. The fireplace was a great feature but as it was a very hot week, we did not need to use the log burner. Our dogs loved the cottage and quickly felt at home. They loved walking and going to the beach which is one of the best beaches we have been on, absolutely beautiful. The owners were very nice but left us to enjoy the cottage in peace. We would definitely recommend this one and we have stayed in two or three every year for nearly thirty years. We usually feel ready to go home towards the end of a holiday but we could have stayed here much longer because of the relaxing atmosphere.
December 2012
A nice cosey cottage with a lovley garden aspect with friendley helpfull owners close to coast and mountains. we likedthe 3000 year old burial sites.
August 2013
The owners are very friendly and helpful and the accommodation first class. The annexe is at the rear of the owners cottage with its own entrance and patio. If you are taking a dog there are steps leading from the patio to a paddock where they can be exercised. The location is great with local beaches and situated between Barmouth and Harlech within easy reach or many attractions i.e Portmerion and Betws-y-coed. It is an ideal place to stay for this area of Wales and we hope to return next year.

there were no pictures on the website when we booked this so we were a little apprehensive but we couldn't have been happier when we arrived, the welcome was warm and some lovely personal touches were waiting when we entered. the annex is well equip t the finish and attention to detail throughout was impressive, having the wood burner in october was lovely it really gives that cosy feel. if there was something we had to pick at it would be the shower, it's definitely not a power shower but there is a bath and it's not something that would stop me recommending the annex. we used the cottage as a base to take our (large) dog out walking and there are some beautiful walks in this area, having a walk along the beach in the morning can't be beat! there is a couple of pubs within walking distance (5-10 min) & a lovely Italian restaurant on the way. having looked at a lot of cottages on the web i think this is great value for money.
