Really enjoyed our stay in the heart of the Lake District. The Gatehouse was lovely with a great garden, WiFi, TV and a wood burner to entertain the kids and the adults. Loved the piano.

Absolutely wonderful place, the view out of the windows, the slightly bizarre but beautiful and romantic, decoration, the roll top bath, the heavy curtains, the books, the comfortable and luxurious bed, the wood burner. Perfect.

We were inspired by the imagination that went into this property. It was relaxed, a wonderful place to chill out. Enjoyed walks around the village and the Howgills. Had a gorgeous view across the Howgills, changing with the moods of the weather. We enjoyed visiting the Yorkshire Dales and seeing Spring Gentians in Teesdale. It was also very accessible for the Lake District and Eden Valley.

The cottage is just as you would expect - rural and chic. We loved our week here as did our two dogs. The garden is very large which is great for the dogs in the morning. There's a sun trap over the road where you can have a barbecue and enjoy the views over the Howgills. The wood burner is warm and cosy in the evening and the owner has a large wood pile from which you can stock up the wood basket. We liked the Gatehouse so much that we plan to return one day and we may go for piano lessons in the meantime!

The location and the quirkiness of the gatehouse made the holiday a real pleasure. Always something to look at and just far enough away from the madding crowd.

This was a great holiday. The Gatehouse is imaginative and unique - as much a work of art as a place to stay.

The area was beautiful, with lots of walking to do nearby and interesting places a short journey away. The property was fabulous - large, unique and with some very cool features. There was a big garden for our dog and children to roam about.

The Gatehouse is a truly unique eclectic holiday stay. Well furnished, comfortable and warm (excellent log burner) with everything you need. Set in a beautiful position in a very small rural hamlet. So much to do and see in this part of the world, our favourite being a beautiful walk in Ullswater. We had numerous fantastic pub lunches, in particular 'The Black Swan' just a short drive away. We will be back.

The properties uniqueness was fascinating. Everything was quirky, made from reclaimed materials, however it managed to remain homely and extremely practical. Lots of added, unexpected extras; the views from the property were stunning and the owners were really accommodating and helpful.

The uniqueness of the property. It was just a fabulous place to walk into and there was so much to look around at inside. The property is private and not overlooked and really easy to find. Kitchen overall a big hit for us, Big fridge, great cooker, sink area really good. Every time we want to stay in the Lakes we will now check to see if this rental is available.

We recently stayed at the Gatehouse for a week. The place is pretty much as you might expect to find it - not scrupulously clean but fresh sheets on bed, floor hoovered etc., more than acceptable and as I said much as expected. The place is a bit dusty but that's the style - must say the kitchen was cleaner when we left than it was when we arrived but hey ho - thought that's the way it would be. Pictures don't do the space justice - it's huge! Big lumpy sofas and open views. There's a smallish telly which needs manipulated a bit to get all the stuff you'd want (there's a lot of faffing with cables and remotes if you wanted to watch a DVD) Nearby you have Orton - you can walk quite easily but they don't let dogs inside so be warned if you're slepping up for lunch on foot. Good walks from Orton up onto the scar and beyond to Robin Hoods Grave etc. Ravenstonedale has nearest dog friendly pubs but it is a bit of a hike (5 miles). The Kings Arms is the better for grub but the Black Swan has a superb beer garden. The Fat Lamb is two miles further on from Ravenstonedale and is great for food and dog friendly in the bar. Kirkby Stephen is ten miles away and a very attractive market town with everything you'll need although neither the Indian or Chinese takeaways are up to much IMHO. We didn't have the heating on in the Gatehouse but instead used the woodburner - Charlotte has a big wood store and you can help yourself from that but if like us you feel a bit guilty about burning her supplies there's a woodyard just as you come into Kirkby Stephen and they'll sell you three big bags for a tenner - we went several times! The bed is super comfy and there's an electric blanket if you need it. We slept very soundly. I would heartily recommend the Gatehouse for a break - a super place run by a super lady. We hope to return sometime!
