The location is perfect for peace and quiet, there were lovely walks and gardens right outside the door. We went with three generations and the grandchildren had a great time as it was one big exploration and playing in the stream was a highlight for them. Thank you for a great break.

A very peaceful and quiet holiday. Even though The Old Coach House is situated in the countryside, it was in an area which was very accessible to visitor attractions near by. We had a lovely weeks holiday. The house is of a very high standard and has a very impressive sound system... loved it.

I loved the setting which was a very safe place for my autistic son and we loved the wet room. We loved the landing and as we had some lovely sunny days it was a lovely area to sit.

We were very taken with the property and were sad to be leaving. We personally loved the music system throughout the house and the variety of CD's were a great touch. House had everything we needed and more and the landscape was also very nice. Would definitely consider coming again..

The House was beautiful and in a great setting. We found it very relaxing, in a lovely area and the people were very nice. This house is a little hidden gem, the owners have made a very nice job of creating a luxury feel. Very reasonably priced, we would certainly return here and recommend this property. A few notes of interest; great CD collection at property, check out little bakery in Eyemouth and make sure you visit Alnwick town and castle.

Great location, away from the hustle and bustle, but not far from the A1 and Edinburgh. Great house, lovely grounds.

Lovely house in a quiet country location. Very comfortable. It felt like staying in someone's much loved home rather than a holiday rental.

Peaceful converted barn. Beautiful plants over a stunning gallery area, and probably the best log fire ever! Nice big comfortable beds and down duvets. We had a lady in a wheelchair who managed really well in the downstairs bedroom and wet suite. Stunning views from the master bedroom and lovely balcony. We all enjoyed the peaceful location.

The cottage was superbly equipped, including speakers in every room - the volume can be individually selected. The owners provided a significant number of CDs for the guest to use, the position, although reasonably close to the A1, had no traffic noise. This is by far the best cottage I have ever stayed in and is superb value for money.

We had a great time, house is really well designed and user friendly. Underfloor heating regulated in each room, and massive open fire in living room. Beautiful AGA oven in the big bright well equipped kitchen is like a cherry on the top of cake. This house is an inspiration and it is the dream house for us now.

Stayed at this property last week. The house definitely has a wow factor on first inspection with a beautiful kitchen, dining room, living room, large wet room downstairs and free standing bath in the master bedroom upstairs. The ground floor has a beautiful stone floor with underfloor heating throughout. Furnishings were also of good quality and the property felt very much like someone's home with art work on walls and large plants all over the living areas. However there are several points of criticism of the property which did detract from the enjoyment of the stay. Firstly the lack of a second WC upstairs in the property was impractical if the house had its full quota of 6 people. The solution offered by the owner was use of a small WC in the utility room tower across the courtyard outside (he was offering this solution due to previous comments by guests) I do not consider this a practical solution especially in the dark ! Due to the steep staircase the journey to the WC downstairs in the night time was inconvenient to say the least. We were lucky to have very sunny weather for our stay, however this meant that the upstairs bedrooms and main living room were very hot due to the partial glass roof. Even opening doors and windows it took some time to be bearable. Lack of any means of darkening bedrooms with curtains or blinds meant that some of the party had difficulty sleeping. The property has no wi-fi access and is in an poor reception area for mobile 3G/4G and mobile telephone. This was extremely inconvenient when trying to access tourist information or keep in touch with family members etc and I feel in the 21st century that guests should expect this facility in any rental. It would have been welcoming if the owner had provided at least a pint of milk to make a cup of tea/coffee on arrival but this was not done. The AGA was switched off (previous guests have had same experience) and the owners note beside the AGA gave the feeling that he was not really wanting guests to use it anyway. Toilet roll, was obviously rationed! and bin bags and dishwasher tablets were not available ( this is not expected in this day and age - and I have rented many properties) Lastly to make us feel really welcome !! the owner had left a typed message in the kitchen which stated that although he felt guest's feedback was " interesting" he had "no intention of ever making an enclosed ensuite with WC upstairs, so save my time and your time by not bothering suggesting this ------ and just get over it ! "(quote) This comment was unpleasant and rude and angered all of our party !! I think the owner should rethink this one.

We regularly use Sykes cottages and found the old coach house on there. The pictures gave the house a bit of a wow factor we booked for our July holiday. The location is good in press castle it's very pretty. The kitchen looks nice , it's a bit tatty two of the bar stools have rips in them. The aga is mentioned as one of the main features. We have an Aga and this one has not been turned on for years. The owners had decided it couldn't be turned on due to weather conditions! The kitchen is well stocked but some of the pans were not clean. We would have appreciated a dish cloth, washing up liquid and a dishwashers tablet to at least get us started but none of these things were left. The open lounge looks good but on closer inspection it was dirty and dusty with plants everywhere. The sofa had a tear in it. The main bedroom has a roll top bath and when we put our daughter in she asked what the squeaking noise was. There was a colony of bats under the floorboard who were very loud. There is hundreds of bat dropping outside. We found this very off putting and were concerns with a 5 week old baby and a toddler. We phoned the owner and left a message and got no response. At night there were about 30 bats swarming around. The owner clearly knew about this problem as they were well established and we felt let down that we hadn't been told. The upstairs bedrooms have no curtains making it difficult to get a child to sleep. There is a hammock in the main bedroom with a sign saying dor decoration only. The place is not practical and staged to look good but not very functional or easy to keep clean. We all slept in the downstairs room and there was a constant noise all night quite loud from the boiler next door we had to put up with it. The shower room was good again not even a bar of soap to wash hands. The mezzanine floor looked good but it has around 8 lightbulbs not working and was very very hot with all the glass. We phoned Sykes at 10pm and the customer service was excellent they tried to find us alternative accommodation. We moved out the following morning it was only then the owner tried to contact us. Fortunately we got a full refund and were lucky to find our own accommodation. I hope Sykes review this property the bats can't be removed till August. I would not stay here again.

We stayed in November to carry out business in Dunbar. Lovely and peaceful and warm once we worked out the heating . The galleried area is beautiful with lots of large plants the lighting is good with a large window up to the stars. We were amazed this property only had One toilet for up to 6 guests ?? Not great . This is situated in the wet room on the ground floor with the only shower which was awkward for anyone needing the loo. The master bedroom has a delightful free standing bath and hand basin and no toilet with loads of un used space . This is a delightful sleeping space with large comfy beds and down duvets for cold nights, there is a balcony for warm summer evenings . Anyone who relies on email or internet be aware there is no wifi in this property or anywhere much in the area, we travelled almost to Edinburgh to pick up 3G connection . Ok if you dont need it . The kitchen area has an aga which was not in use in November and when cooking the oven constantly set smoke alarms off . We were a party of 5 ladies , one in a wheelchair who thoroughly enjoyed our stay and switched off in front of a delightful log fire each night, this place just needs a few tweaks to make it absolutely perfect ! Maybe a welcome pack for late arrivers as the local shop is 3 miles away ?

This is a lovely place to stay, let's get that down straight away. My wife and I stayed here for a week with my daughter, son-in-law and their new baby (12 weeks old). It was a great stay and I really enjoyed it. But. There were a few issues with the property. The Aga is out of commission and it looks unused for months. I'm guessing that "high winds" is a feeble excuse and the real reason is "don't like cleaning it". The dishwasher packed up on us on day 1 so it was hand washing from then on. There are rips in the furniture (at least 3). The extra toilet across the courtyard is pretty basic and has a very interesting drainage system - it discharges all over your feet. The location, at Press Castle (not a castle BTW), is fine and there is some nice woodland to walk in. You are, however, miles from civilisation and there is no public transport. Too far to walk to Coldingham unless you are quite fit. The shops in Eyemouth (about 7 miles away) are better. There is precious little phone signal at the property (I'm with Vodaphone but it was poor with other networks too) and there is no internet. Great if you are after some solitude. Not great for the 21st Century. As I said first up, we enjoyed our stay here but I would be surprised if we ever return.

This is a really lovely cottage and in terms of location and space it would score much higher but I have to agree with some of the other comments on practicality especially as a family. The living space and gardens are great ! The wet room was a big hit too - really nicely done out and great shower. Blinds upstairs would help when in summer the children are trying to sleep - I would imagine this would also help the issue with heat (although not a major problem for us this holiday I can imagine in height of summer would be a problem!). A toilet upstairs would be useful again especially for children I felt the need to leave light on as didn't want my daughter coming down spiral stairs in dark to use the loo at night- but this was the only reason this was an issue for us. I also agree that a welcome pack or at least bin liners and washing up liquid should be available for guests. More information as a welcome pack would also be appreciated such as local shops, facilities etc especially as no wifi available.. This makes the need for more local tourist info more important and easy and cheap enough to provide. However, we loved the cottage and really enjoyed our stay here just a few tweaks this would be a great find!! Also better directions to the cottage would be good - the sign from road says press main not press castle which was a bit confusing at first!

The house was simply stunning and had everything we needed. From the large kitchen and the lovely dining room to the lovely bedrooms, especially the master wtih its free-standing bath. The stairs were a bit tricky for my one year old but we just put something in front of them to stop him from climbing them, as he did manage to get on them a couple of times and fell onto the hard floor. Nice quiet location but close to lots of places to venture out to. We visited Berwick-upon-Tweed, St Abbs and Coldingham Bay. Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would recommend to others.

The cottage and its setting were beautiful. The cottage itself felt like a home from home, very well equipped and tastefully decorated. The facilities were great. The whole family (3 generations) loved it and will defiantly be booking again in the future. The owner was very pleasant and accommodating.
