The Old Cwm Barn Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
This delightful 18th century, stone-built barn conversion is situated close to the owner's farmhouse on a 4.5 acre eco-friendly smallholding. Specialising in rare breed pigs, sheep, ducks and chickens, the farm is also home to a wildlife pond and is set on the outskirts of the hamlet of Mainstone. The property itself is surrounded by wooded pastures and offers comfortable, well-equipped accommodation. This includes a spacious, triple aspect sitting room with superb views, three lovely bedrooms and a cosy lounge. The large garden boasts a spring-fed stream with decking across it, making this an incredibly relaxing outdoor space.

Located in beautiful countryside known as the Marches, the hamlet of Mainstone is located on the border between England and Wales. This charming settlement is less than six miles from the fascinating market town of Bishops Castle, situated in the outstanding natural beauty of the south west Shropshire Hills. The town of Bishops Castle boasts a medieval castle mound, a wealth of timbered buildings - including the unusual Elizabethan House on Crutches - heritage trails and an impressive choice of quality shops, pubs and restaurants. These include the famous Three Tuns Inn Brewery, which produces traditional real ales. The town enjoys weekly markets, festivals - such as the famous Annual Real Ale Festival - and regular fairs including one at Michaelmas. The area is ideal for walking, cycling and for touring the Welsh Marches whilst the towns of Ludlow and Shrewsbury are also within easy reach to provide some cosmopolitan contrast.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

The owners were very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. The surroundings were so peaceful and really beautiful. The decking area had the sun all day and was lovely to sit and eat al fresco. The garden was secure and plenty big enough for dogs to have a run round.

The barn is in a marvellous position for those who like peace and quiet, country life and walking. The arrangements for dogs are good: a well fenced garden and lovely walks just from the door.

The wonderful location, away from it all, and the stream in the garden for the kids to play in. The lovely sitting room, and watching woodpeckers, kites and buzzards without even leaving the house. Excellent walking, including many child-friendly walks nearby. Bishops Castle is a lovely little town.

The peace and quite of the cottage location plus the light living room being such a pleasant place to sit. The garden too was a wonderful size big enough to be able to throw the ball a bit for the dogs. The owner also made available early in the morning a different paddock for me to do some dog training in.

I stayed here with my wife, parents and our dogs. The location is so picturesque and quaint. The facilities within the barn are plentiful and well thought out. If you are looking for a quiet retreat from the world and enjoy walk then this is the place for you. The dogs enjoyed the abundance of fields and woodland to explore and play in. The garden is perfect for dogs and children as totally fenced off around the barn for piece of mind. We will definitely be coming back to this little gem.

We three friends stayed for a week in this barn conversion with the express hope of finding some lovely walks. We were not disappointed. The accommodation itself was just what we wanted:well equipped, warm, enclosed garden for dogs and children, useful welly boot area and downstairs toilet. The owners, who live next door, were attentive and friendly without being intrusive. All in all The Old Cwm Barn is an excellent place for a holiday if you love country things.

Excellent accommodation well layout comfortable and dog friendly. Large fenced garden big enough to train the dogs in. Useful covered lobby to remove wet clothing and foot ware. The only thing missing was a log burner not because the property was cold but to make it a little more cosy. The owners who lived next door where friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
