The Old Gatehouse description

It’s plain to see why this detached, brick and flint period cottage is a listed building, its timbered façade is nothing short of stunning, and inside, there’s a homely ambience emanating from every room. The interiors have been meticulously furnished to a very good standard, offering roomy accommodation even for larger families. The wood-burning stove is the veritable heart of the house, and the living room makes for a great spot for socialising around the inglenook fireplace. The well-equipped kitchen turns the chore of cooking into a pleasure, and the seating area outside is great for putting your feet up and relaxing with a good book.

The cottage is conveniently located for exploring Walsingham, a historic little village with a rich history of pilgrimage. The abbey, priory ruins and the excavated site of the original Holy House all bear testimony to the village’s pious past, and Walsingham is also home to a number of quaint gift shops, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs, that are easily accessible on foot.

There’s something for everyone in this area of Norfolk. For children, there’s the Wells & Walsingham Light Railway, and for nature lovers, there is a number of nature and RSPB reserves to visit. Alternatively, you can take a boat trip from Blakeney Quay or Morston Harbour, for your chance to spot basking seal colonies around Blakeney Point.

Pleasant walking is to be found amidst unspoilt parklands, where a gently meandering river makes its way towards the sea. The area around Wells-next-the-Sea, 5 miles, is great for pine-scented woodland walks, as well as lazy days on the beach. The town itself boasts a vibrant town centre, a picturesque quay and a small working harbour, perfect for crabbing and finding fresh seafood. There’s some excellent walking to be had up and down the coast, and further east are the more traditional seaside towns of Cromer and Sheringham, each with an array of attractions, including Splash Leisure Centre, golf courses, horse riding, and wide stretches of golden sands. Keen fishermen ought to head to Billingford (licence required), and historic homes nearby include Holkham Hall, and HM the Queen’s own Norfolk retreat, the Royal Sandringham Estate.
