All on one level, this compact detached holiday cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway and for touring the glorious and varied attractions of Somerset. It is a five-minute stroll from an award-winning village pub and a popular farm shop with a café and bakery. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty midway between Wells and Cheddar, Priddy is the highest village on top of the Mendip Hills and an ideal base for walkers and nature lovers, or those who just want to relax away from it all. The village has a reputation for friendliness and hospitality, with its annual Folk Festival being recognised as ‘the friendliest festival in England’. The whole area is one of immense historical and geological interest; the hurdle stack on the village Green is a distinctive landmark, as are the Nine Barrows (burial mounds) visible on the horizon from various vantage points.

Among the many places of interest to visit are nearby Wells cathedral in England’s smallest city, Cheddar Gorge and caves, Wookey Hole and Ebbor Gorge. A short drive away are Glastonbury Tor, Clarks Village retail outlet at Street, King John’s Hunting Lodge in pretty Axbridge, and Kilver Court Designer Outlet at Shepton Mallet. Longleat, several National Trust properties including Montacute House and Stourhead, the Georgian Heritage city of Bath with its beautiful architecture, Roman baths, abbey and fine selection of shops and restaurants, Bristol with its harbourside attractions and regency Clifton, are all less than an hour away. Excellent beaches and seaside entertainment can be enjoyed at Weston Super Mare and Brean, and there are many charming villages to be explored. Several golf clubs are available locally together with horse riding, mountain biking, gliding, coarse fishing and trout fishing at Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes.

The Pen is a small self-contained apartment in the owners’ garden so they are on hand for any information.
