The Townhouse Coastal Cottage description

Holiday home
Kirkcudbright offers an ideal destination for a relaxing family holiday, and The Townhouse is the perfect base from which to explore the area. The property is a sympathetically restored and renovated Georgian townhouse dating from 1801 which has been decorated to a high standard with abespoke country kitchen with marble worktops and beautiful bedrooms with king size beds. The Townhouse is located in the centre of Kirkcudbright, on the beautiful north Solway shore. Many original features remain in this delightful holiday home, including fireplaces in the sitting room and bedroom, original polished timber floors throughout and a staircase with exposed beams. The pretty harbour with its selection of shops, cafes and pubs, and walking or cycling opportunities are on your doorstep.

This historic town is situated on the north Solway Shore on the banks of the tidal waters of the River Dee. Kirkudbright's harbour is still active today, and the fishing trade has always supported the town. The picturesque town centre is characterised by wide streets and pretty pastel coloured houses, as well as the fascinating ruined McLellan's Castle. Historical attractions worth a visit include the Stewartry Museum and its permanent exhibition of objects representing the history of life on the Solway coast. Known as the artists' town since the late nineteenth century and a wonderful selection of art galleries, crafts, and antique shops still thrive here today.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Liked the position of the house and its accessibility to the town and amenities. The way the house is appointed and the furnishings made for a relaxing, home from home feeling.

The house was in the town and convenient for everything. As the house was on 3 levels it let the whole family (4 adults 4 children) find space when they needed it.

The property was superb; very homely with a lot of nice touches. Local amenities were also good. The house reflected Kirkcudbright which is noticeably very clean and that is important. We did not manage to cover all we meant to do which means we will have to return sometime in the future - great.

Stayed here for a week with 3 generations of my family aged from 12 to 74 and we all loved it. The house is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Right in the heart of Kirkcudbright, easy walk to harbour, shops, galleries etc. Nice beaches a short drive away (I especially liked Brighouse Bay)

From the moment we opened the front door we felt at home. The house was exactly what we wanted for our New Year away from home and the location was perfect for walks, cycling and just strolling around the shops and coffee houses. The decor is excellent and just completes that homely feel.

My husband and I spent a long weekend at this property and were very impressed. It is very spacious, well equipped and in a great location for shops and restaurants. The beds are very comfortable with crisp white linen and mattress toppers. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

My first trip to Scotland and I was not disappointed. The little town of Kirkcudbright was charming with a good mix of shops to poke around in. We chose stay in the Townhouse, which was very well situated. The house was sparkling clean for our arrival. The furniture was comfortable, well looked after and there was everything that you could need and more. The decor suited us very well, bathrooms very modern, kitchen up to date and all in all a very nice house to stay in. It was somewhat chilly in the evenings but the house has central heating which made it very cosy. I would stay there again especially as there was a very nice pub within easy walking distance and a fish a chip shop that sold everything from a take away fish supper to eat in 3 course meals and even ice cream cornetts for hot sunny days!! The local people were extremely friendly and always wanted to at least say hello or stop for a chat. Plenty of places to visit and we saw 7 red kites on just 1 day alone. The scenery around Kirkcudbright is stunning. My only quibble was the fact that we did find the bed mattresses very hard and uncomfortable, perhaps a topper would solve the problem. One last comment the garden is very very small, really just a strip of path, and would be very cramped for a large party going to the house.

The standard of The Townhouse was far higher than we usually get for much the same money. It is well-sited, well-equipped and excellent value. We would certainly rebook when back in Galloway.
