The cottage was as described and a cosy place to spend 5 days. The location is in the middle of nowhere but close to everywhere we wanted to go to visit friends and family - Wells, Bath, Bradford-on-Avon, Frome.

A lovely quirky cottage, it was beautifully designed, every usable nook and cranny was utilised in a brilliant way. The owner has gone to great lengths to make the holidaymaker feel at home. The locals were all friendly and the neighbours too.

My daughter and I stayed at the Turrets in Lower Coleford in early November. The cottage is really quite charming. The furnishings are well thought through and the place has a very special character to it. I'm no good a making wood burning fires, but if you are good at it then it makes the living room very cozy. There is a range of DVD's and CD's to play. The kitchen is very well equipped with Judge pans and Sabatier knives and a knife sharpener! The cottage also comes with a torch and umbrella! The table in the dinning turret is very small and really ionly fits 2 people around it. But this is what makes the cottage very cosy, the size! Absolutely ideal for 2 people. 3 is too many, but there are 2 double beds, one large and one small, so it can easily accommodate 3 people. The stairs however are VERY steep! The garden is small but lovely to sit in after a run around the local footpaths. The parking is a bit tight, but you do have your own space. Teh local pub, The Kings Head are very helpful in providing extra parking for teh short term. Lower Coleford has an amazing number of footpaths direct from teh cottage and is half an hour from Bath and Glastonbury, about 20mins from Wells. Frome is very close although we didn't make it there. Bath and the Jane Austen Center were fab, Wells Cathedral was great and Wells itself really charming. We climbed up Glastonbury Tor, hard work but well worth it for the panoramic views. Teh owner is extremely helpful and gives a comprhensive guide to what is around th area to do and there is a really good orange Ordinace Survey map to use.Enjoy - We loved it and I'm sure we'll be back.

Although it is a lovely cottage and quirky, we stayed this summer in the rains that plagued the area. It was cold and one of the MAIN reasons I booked this holiday was the novelty of having a log burner in the evenings. Arrived to find absolutely no starter kit for the fire and tried to contact the emergency contact number...no joy. Found out by chance through the next door neighbour that the cleaner (emergency contact number) was on holiday. Then tried several times to contact the owner ....no joy. Result, no experience of log fire, wasted time on my holiday trying to contact the owner (who was on holiday herself) to provide what I paid for i.e. starter kit for fire. Finally through complaining to Sykes cottages I got a small amount back, it did not cover the aggro. You should be able to contact the owner with a rental, especially as I had phoned her just before I went and did not mention she would be away. Also does not state on booking info that mobile signal is virtually non existent at the cottage.
