Virginia Cottage description

Holiday home
Virginia Cottage was originally a barn set on a working farm. It has been converted to provide accommodation for groups of up to 4 people. The conversion has been undertaken with great care and the cottage retains much of its original character through features such as a wood-burning stove in the lounge. The decoration is modern, yet comforting and the property backs onto a private patio from where you can absorb the rolling scenery or enjoy a spot of summertime dining. Walks are available through the farm and the cottage is located close to other walking trails. There is parking for up to 2 cars, although the local shops are 2 minutes away on foot and the local pub is 4 miles away.

Area
The pretty little village of Acton Burnell is set in rolling farmland a few miles from Shrewsbury and takes its name from Robert Burnell, famous for building the lovely castle and church here in the 13th Century. Robert Burnell, who built the castle, also built Acton's Church of St Mary, which is still in use and remains one of the most complete 13th century village churches in Britain. Acton is well-placed to explore further Shropshire attractions, such as Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Attingham Park and Shropshire's capital: Shrewsbury. There are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities, especially amongst the historic Shropshire Hills.

Region
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

A weekend was quite simply not long enough! So tastefully and comfortably furnished with such care taken to ensure the cottage was equipped with everything you could possibly need. The 'personal' welcome pack really helped us to get the most out of the short time we had! Would just love to return when time permits. Just perfect! Thank you so very much!

A comfortable and well equipped cottage with all the information needed to make the most of our stay. It was clear that the owners gave a lot of thought to what guests would need, both within the cottage and in terms of information to quickly and easily benefit from all there is on offer in this lovely part of the country.

This was a child and pet friendly cottage. It was furnished to an excellent standard and had everything you could possibly need available. May 2007
The cottage was immaculate, and the best accommodation that we have stayed in. Sometimes, if a property accepts dogs, you do not expect the incredibly high standard which greeted us at Virginia. The owners should be extremely proud of their conversion. A 5* property at an affordable price. Would definitely look to book again in the not too distant future. Cannot praise the cottage, or the warm friendly welcome by the owners, enough.
Mrs Bowden
April 2007
Absolutely beautiful cottage in a lovely peaceful location. Everything necessary for a wonderful holiday was provided in the cottage, even a welcoming bottle of wine on the dresser. Easy access to all that Shropshire has to offer and there is certainly plenty to see there. Excellent food in The Plough at Leebotwood about 2 miles away and an excellent Sunday carvery lunch at The Station Inn at Marshbrook, Church Stretton. We were so fortunate to pick the hot weather in April. It was more like being on holiday in July!
Mrs Bowden

The service we received was excellent. The Holiday Accomodation was perfect. There was everything you could want and more besides! We were all impressed with the wonderful layout and comfort of the home. The location was quiet and peaceful. My only complaint(besides the weather) was there were no close amenities, you had to drive everywhere.

"The cottage was beautiful and lovely and clean and very comfortable. Had all the things you require a home to have from essential cooking utensils to home comforts. The owners Penny and her Husband and their family were most hospitable." Would highly recommend a visit here. Some lovely pubs to visit in surrounding areas too. We hope to return one day very soon!.

December 2012
We had an awesome weeks rest in Virginia Cottage, the owners where fantastic people, I only wish we could have stayed longer. The cottage was beautifully appointed with everything you could want for a perfect break. I come from a farming background so the peace and quite of this farm forming a part of the village reminded me of my childhood from Cross Farm in Eastry, Kent. I would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage to anyone with or without animals.
