The complimentary wine flowers and general facilities the property offered. We liked the fact that there was no compromise on standard just because they allowed dogs to stay - which was a big use for us. It was home-from-home. Everybody was so friendly. It was a good base to travel from to the various walks around the beautiful countryside. The village pub was lovely and the food amazing! Thank you.
Mrs Summerfield

Had a lovely weekend at this delightful cosy cottage. Had everything we needed for a pleasant stay with a nice real open fire. We enjoyed some nice home cooked meals at the Punchbowl pub which was just across the road from the cottage and they made us feel very welcome with our little dog Ralph. Will definitely stay there again :-)

The cottage was quaint, comfortable, relaxing and practical. The walks great in the region, with a good country park nearby. We were relatively near all the sight-seeing for Hadrian's wall and forts which was our main aim for the holiday. People friendly. Pub opposite cottage.

I loved the really warm welcome from the owners with tips on what is good about the area and wonderful Northern friendliness. The spaciousness of the main rooms in the cottage were great, with comfortable furniture, all mod cons and everywhere nicely decorated. The pub across the road was second-to-none with excellent food and friendly staff.

The owners very kindly informed us that the road we would be using might be closed due to the Olympic Torch relay and suggested we arrive early. The cottage was lovely and we found plenty to do in the area. We had a very relaxing break.

Clean, cosy, warm and well equipped cottage. Everything we needed was at this property and the owners had even taken the trouble to leave an information folder on days out in the area.

My partner and our dog Tyke had a week in October. The Cottage is well set out,and the owners are very welcoming. It is a stone's throw from the Punchbowl pub, which is dog friendly and serves good food ( Tyke came with us every night when we had our evening meal ) There is also a restaurant. The country side is amazing and the reservoir up the road has some good walks. Lots of places of interest within an hours drive. We are planning on going again, as the people made us very welcome.

February 2013
arrived jan in the thick snow,, julie had rang earlier to give us the best directions to the village. wine, milk, fresh flowers and logs for fire on arrival, snowed in 3 days didnt care the cottage was so warm cosy and only 10 footsteps from local pub
January 2014
Stayed at Wayside cottage for 4 nights at the end of December and over the new year, it was wonderful, a lovely cottage which is very well appointed. The wind was howling outside and it just felt lovely and cosy sitting in front of the log burner away from everything. There are lovely walks nearby especially the Derwent reservoir and the village itself is very friendly and welcoming with a nice village shop and a pub which is less than a stones throw away which serves excellent food and a good choice of beers. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, its just a shame we had to leave.
November 2012
The cottage is situated in a very quiet village. The kitchen is more a galley style, the equipment for all the cooking we did is there. The living room is well designed, comfortable and cosy. I would suggest you take with you some more logs for the burner, the owners do leave you a couple of days worth along with firelighters. The bedroom has a king size bed and an old wooden floor, it creaks a bit, adds to the feel of the cottage. I would recommend this for any couple who want time on their own, with or without a pet. The place is a great centre for walking. With towns and cities within easy reach. The cottage was clean, a welcome pack of milk, wine, logs etc.. As a couple with the dog, it couldn't have been better
September 2011

September 2012
Friendly welcome by owner. Good food at the pub close by and good location for seeing the beautiful country side
