Perched on the Cumbria/Northumberland border, the traditional features and generously proportioned rooms make this an ideal choice for families and friends looking for a comfortable and well equipped holiday home. Standing detached alongside one other property, its peaceful, rural location makes it feel off the beaten track and yet it is just 500 yards from the Alston to Brampton road which connects the Lake District to the Northumberland National Park. There is a network of public footpaths direct from the doorstep linking up to numerous trails and cycle routes. The archaeological remains of Whitley Castle (Roman Fort), described as the hidden gem of the North Pennines is a stones throw from the property and trout and salmon fishing can be enjoyed on a quiet stretch of the South Tyne River running through the owner’s farm (2 permits available by request in advance). Whitlow is perfectly situated as a touring base for exploring a wealth of natural and historical treasures in the area. Hadrian’s Wall is only 10 miles away, with the Scottish Border and the Lake District approximately 25 miles. Nearby Alston, 21/2 miles, the highest market town in England, offers an interesting array of cafes, shops, pubs, narrow gauge steam engine railway (which runs through the farm) and 18-hole golf.
