The country homes of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as is Matlock Bath with its spectacular cable car, the newly restored Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver's Kingdom. Only two miles away, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford provides a fascinating day out.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

This was our second visit, we adore the place. There are so many interesting villages, lots of history, and of course an amazing amount of very different walks with splendid views. What more could we ask for? Then to return to the comfort of such a well equipped, tastefully furnished cottage! Also we were able to take our dog!

This is the second time we have stayed in this delightful cottage. The cottage is well equipped, warm and cosy. There is a huge Christmas tree opposite the cottage and fairy lights. It was a lovely Christmas atmosphere, in a beautiful village. We have both fell in love with Derbyshire, the scenery is breath-taking. The owners of the cottage are extremely helpful and welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble for them.

Great holiday cottage lovely to come back to after a day walking or cycling very cozy, really good location for exploring the Peak District. Two pubs in the village one 2 minutes walk away and the other 10 minutes which serves good food. We found all that we required in the cottage, a welcome bottle and chocolates got us off to a good start along with the log burner and everything you need including wifi, thank you to Jill & Kevin very friendly people.

A pleasant and very clean little cottage in the rural village location of Middleton By Wirksworth Our stay was enhanced by the bottle of wine and nibbles left for for us by the landlady on arrival. She looked after us as if we were millionaires, guiding us toward the local pub, The Nelson for beverages and music, as well as the Rising Sun for a great Sunday dinner. An abundance of walking is available on the nearby moors and we took the dog into Wirksworth on our weekend stay All in all a cosy little place where my wife and I will return
November 2016
We have stayed there for the last 3 years and despite plumbing problems we found the cottage pleasant enough. THis year we booked directly but the saving on the agency fee was not passed on to us. I had forgotten that the landlady had complained last year about bits of cotton being left on the stairs after our departure. She even rang us at home to state this. When we attempted to book again we were told that we were not welcome again but no reason was given apart from dirty spoons..When you flush the toilet at ANY time the boiler and taps turn on, their is no fuel for the fire, this time no space for clothes and little literature re the surrounding area. Because we stayed for two weeks this time, I took the bins out, we left used bedding out for her convenience and left the house by 10.35. Supposed to be out by 10.30 but i felt this was reasonable as the car was parked down the road. She lives across the road and was obviosly watching. AS I mentioned the plumbing in the visitors book I can assume that this is why she behaved so irrationally. Maybe she has problems? WE will go back as planned to the same area in feb, but will keep a very wide birth. Happy to take your money but little social graces. Be warned.
July 2015
Super well-equipped cottage with absolutely stunning views. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to any able bodied person. (The stairs to the bedroom were quite steep and not suitable for anyone who is disabled.) Wifi was advertised but very hard to connect to, We persevered and eventually connected by being near the upstairs bedroom window but the signal was weak and inconsistent. Overal this was a lovely cottage, we really enjoyed our relaxing stay and we would stay again.

We stayed at this cottage for a week with our pooch . It is clean and very well equipped with everything to hand. The wood burner is a real delight and so cosy . The views are lovely especially from the bedroom . When we arrived we were greeted with a delicious bottle of red wine and good chocolate such a very thoughtful gesture . The village is quiet and the locals are very friendly . We really enjoyed our stay in this sweet cosy cottage and feel we have had a very relaxing break. Big thankyou to owner .
August 2014
My wife and I have just returned from a fabulous midweek break in this beautiful, cosy, spotlessly clean cottage that has everything required for a comfortable stay. On arrival there was bread and wine on the breakfast bar and milk and butter in the fridge. A really nice welcoming touch. As a late booking we really didn't have much planned but there was a wealth of information available in the form of leaflets to help us. Jill, the owner of the cottage, really made us feel at home as did all the locals we spoke to in the village and the local pub, The Lord Nelson, was a super way to end each day. We would definitely return.
November 2013
My wife and I stayed for a week in October. The cottage is delightful and in a lovely village technically just outside the national park although perfectly located for exploring everywhere between Dovedale and Buxton. Our hosts, Jill and Kevin, were just great and very welcoming (including a pack of wine and essentials). We had planned to stay longer but had to leave, however that gives us all the more reason to come back. We also found from the guest book that some relatives had stayed a few months earlier and never told us what a find it was.

My husband, myself and our cocker spaniel stayed here for a midweek break and oh my what a great find. The cottage is fantastic and has all the amenities you need. On arrival we had bread and wine, milk in the fridge and everything you could need in the kitchen and bathroom. We lit the log burner and settled for a cosy stay. This is a real home from home and Jill made the whole experience simple and straightforward. The cottage is beautifully furnished, clean and warm. We will definitely stay again.
February 2013
Took my partner up for a romantic weekend in the Peak District. Was more than pleased by our stay at 12 The Green, and an unexpected welcome present of wine and bread. It was perfect for the two of us and was well kitted out to make meals and breakfast and for a comfortable stay. The stove fire was fun to use and there was enough wood/fuel for the two nights we stayed. Good location in terms of visiting the Peak District and options for the evening in the nearby Wirksworth and Matlock
November 2012
We stayed for 3 nights in this lovely cottage. It is very comforable and well equipped in a good village location. We had a problem with the dvd palyer and the owners brought a new one round almost immediately. The only thing that was a bit of problem is that we took 2 dogs and we had to take them out on the lead if they wanted to go for a wee as there is only a tiny front garden and we didn't want it to end up smelling of dog wee. But if you have no dogs then this is a brilliant place to stay. The area is hilly so not suitable for disabled.

We had a great winter stay at 12 The Green. The cottage was warm and comfortable, spotlessly clean and has a thoughtfully equipped kitchen. The owner Jill was very accommodating and flexible regarding check-in and check-out times. The weather was bad when we were there, with snowfalls each night, but we were happy to stay in and watch DVDs and even managed a wintery walk thought the hills. We reluctantly cut our trip short as the weather worsened but Jill has kindly offered us a free night if we stay again. The only downside for me was a lack of walkable eating places - the only pub to serve food in the village was poor.

12 The Greens' location was fantastic, a short driving distance to some lovely towns and villages. The house was very quaint and fitted our needs ideally. We had a lovely trip to Bakewell - despite the weather! The recommended Red Lion pub provides a wonderful menu.
