Albion Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Sleeping groups of up to four people, this property has been built from brick yet inside, has been decorated and furnished to exceedingly modern standards. It is conveniently located just next door to a pub, which also happens to belong to the owner so, although there is parking for up to two cars, there will be many evenings where you just won't need them! Central heating throughout warms the cottage in the colder months and there is a feature fireplace in the living room. If you prefer to eat in, the kitchen is spacious and well equipped.

Silloth's location on the shores of the Solway Firth, facing the hills of the Southern Galloway and neatly bordered by the Lake District Fells, has attracted visitors for years. Its reputation for fabulous sunsets and sea views inspired the artist, Turner, to capture its atmosphere on canvas. The town itself was built as a railhead and a port in the 1850s and shipped in Irish Granite to build Christ Church, which is open to visitors. The streets are wide, stylish and lined with trees. Coupled with a beautiful promenade, this part of Cumbria could almost be a small French town. There is an 18-hole golf course, which was the 'home' course for Miss Cecillia Leitch, the most celebrated woman golfer of the 19th Century. In addition, there are many attractions around Silloth, such as Grune Point, a sandy, raised shingle beach approximately one mile long and supporting a community of specialist vegetation, including sea sandwort, sea-holly and sand couch-grass.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Gas central heating with electric fire. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, TV with Freeview, DVD, CD/radio. WiFi available via arrangement with owner. Fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair available. Roadside parking for 2 cars. One small/medium well-behaved dog welcome. Shop 1 min walk, pub 10 yards. Note: One of the twin bedrooms can only be accessed via the other bedroom. Note: The stairs in the property are quite steep and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

October 2011
The cottage was very warm and cosy, just as described. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the attached pub was also very good with all the customers making us welcome. The cottage is in a beautiful area, very relaxing. We were unfortunate in that the weather was terrible for the time of year, so we did not see as much of the area as we had hoped, but the cosy atmosphere of the cottage helped. A nice touch was the wine, fruit and milk that was waiting for us on arrival.

February 2016
A lovely cosy, warm, comfortable cottage in the town of Silloth, Cumbria. Very well appointed, clean and quiet. A great friendly atmosphere in the pub next door and very handy for the town centre and the promenade on the Solway Firth. Also very central for other areas like the North lakes and Dumfries and Galaway. We will definitely be going back. The weather was, let's say, poor, but it didn't deter us, we were out every day for morning walks and visits to the likes of Maryport, Whitehaven, Keswick, Cockermouth, etc.

March 2016
Gorgeous cottage with all facilities provided as needed. Really cosy and homely and great for the dogs
October 2016
We absolutely loved this cottage. It is very spacious and spotlessly clean with two immaculate bathrooms and a lovely modern kitchen. The building itself is quite old and has a charming homely feel to it, and feels full of history and atmosphere. However the facilities are modern and up to date. It is part of a pub which is absolutely lovely, cosy warm and welcoming, however as it is only open a few days a week and is visited mostly by locals, there is no noise at all from this. Silloth is a very pretty place, particularly on the promenade, which has a lovely walk along the sea with views across to Scotland. The lakes are near enough to visit, particularly Keswick, and also Carlisle and Hadrians wall. Came back rested and relaxed. Plenty of little local shops for groceries and some good takeaways-we just wanted to stay at the cottage in the evenings as it was so cosy, even on autumn evenings. Lovely place to stay.
Dr Evans
June 2006
Very nice fixures and furnishings.
Mr Wright
August 2006
Easy location to sight see in Lakes and Scotland. Short walk to beautiful view of Solway Firth and Galloway Hills. The owners made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble.
September 2015
We stayed here with a five year old. The cottage is well appointed and very quaint and pretty. It is very suitable for a young family rather than an older family or with friends as one bedroom can only be accessed though the other and the upstairs bathroom is off the first bedroom. It was ideal for us. TV reception was a bit poor if you sat on the sofa nearest the TV but was fine otherwise. Wifi was good. Best in the rooms next to the pub. The pub was only open at weekends and there is some noise from it but not intrusive at all. You can walk every where as it is very central. We took out a month membership at Stanwix park to use the facilities and with a small child in a quiet town this was very good value and provided the bulk of our entertainment. Heating/hot water appliances etc were all fine - no problems at all the kitchen was well equipped as we were using it more than going out. Would recommend if you need a place in this area. Lovely countryside and walking etc. The owners were unhand in the pub if needed at all.
September 2014
The cottage is next to a pub but this only opens weekends it's a good spot for exploring Cumbria and the lakes a very relaxing holiday but the best part is the people who live in siloth they are the friendliest and make you so welcome in less than a day everyone knew who we were and was inviting us to all local events the locals made this a great break
December 2009
Four golfers based ourselves in the apartment for a week, playing Silloth(lots)and other surrounding courses. Silloth GC is walking distance away and an ideal eaterie/base if you don't want to cook and also a magnificent golf course. The apartment is very comfortable, well equipped and very handy for the pub next door. (good beer, friendly locals and a big screen TV) As a base for golfers not wanting the formality of a hotel this is about as good as it gets and incredible value. Definitely highly recommended.
September 2012
Lovely cottage, well presented and cosy, loved the welcome pack. Close to beach and golf course. Locals very friendly and helpful. Good base for exploring the lakes and Scotland.
August 2011
This was the most comfortable cottage we have ever stayed in on our holidays, a real home from home. A perfect base for north west lakes, we loved it so much we are going back next year.
September 2011
loverly cottage great place to explore w cumbria and lakes
January 2012
We thought everything about the cottage was perfect and the decor was lovely. The cottage was nice and warm with a bottle of wine as a pleasant gift. The pub next door is very handy and the owners of the pub/cottage were always at the end of a telephone call.
July 2011
Lovely clean spacious cottage. Home from home. Had everything we needed plus more inc milk in the fridge and fruit platter with wine. Owners very friendly. They live in the pub next door if we needed them else left us to enjoy our stay. We had a 3yr old with us so was great to have a play park just minutes away. close to the sea and shops near by. Smoking is allowed and dogs r welcome, very ideal.
November 2016
Have been several times to The Albion, which says it all. People in town very welcoming. I would have issue with the title of pet friendly with a garden . The garden in question belongs to the pub. You have only one access door, straight into lounge of the cottage. The garden is then entered via a gate next door. My dog loves grass , so it does mean visits across the road to a green area! I also agree groups with young family or very close friends!

December 2009
I chose Silloth as an area, away from the lakes and the tourist spots, but near enough to travel to them, which worked perfectly. The cottage, I found to be of high standard which was perfect for me and my children. All the necessary amenities were catered for and the owners were more than happy to help in any way possible. Thoroughly recommend.
