Badger Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Tucked behind the owner's property, this cosy cottage is furnished and equipped to a superb standard and provides light and airy open plan accommodation including two bedrooms, an open plan living and dining area with fitted kitchen area, and a pleasant stone patio and small lawn with gorgeous views over the fields. Padstow and Wadebridge are both close by, and the buzzing seaside and surfing resort of Newquay is only a short drive. Sandy beaches, fabulous restaurants, welcoming pubs and walking trails also make this a great base for discovering this wonderful part of Cornwall.

St Issey itself is perfectly located for a holiday break, allowing you the opportunity to get away from it all while also remaining close to the delights (particularly culinary delights) of nearby Padstow. The hamlet has its own church, pub and village shop with gorgeous sandy beaches only five miles away, where you can indulge in the three "S's" that the area has become famous for (sunbathing, swimming and surfing). The local area is also popular with walkers – there are some incredible coastal path walks offering a heady combination of Atlantic views, invigorating sea air and wonderful countryside. Padstow is certainly worth a visit; with the figure of culinary giant Rick Stein looming large over the town, it's a must for foodies but also a great place to shop and people watch. Other attractions include the ferry across the Camel estuary to Rock, or the Eden Project (just 20 miles away) – if you can tear yourself away from this lovely part of the country.

Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.

Oil central heating. Electric cooker, fridge, microwave, washing machine, TV, DVD, radio/CD. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent (excluding beach towels). Small grassed area with patio, furniture, BBQ and views over valley. Off road parking for 3 cars. Two well-behaved dogs welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop/Post Office 3 miles, pub 1 mile. Note: This cottage is suitable for max. 2 adults and 2 children.

The cottage was perfect in every way, the cleanliness, decor, location etc. I loved that the owner had left a lovely welcome of a cream tea and some wine for us. Another nice touch was the small selection of DVD's, books and board games for those lazy days or early nights. A great location for visiting the sites of Cornwall. May 2015
We stayed at Badger Cottage from 16-23 May 2015. We were lucky with good weather. The cottage is immaculate. The lounge /diner is well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Fresh homemade scones, jam and clotted cream had been left for us on our arrival. A nice touch. The bedrooms were very clean. The double bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. The other bedroom contained 2 bunk beds - ideal for children. There was quite a spacious bathroom with a bath and shower, a toilet and a good sized wash basin. Also in the bathroom was a washing machine in case you wanted to do some washing. Outside there is garden area with a table and 2 chairs. Up 2 stairs and there another table and 2 chairs which gives a view across the landscape. There is a rotary clothes line for any washing. The one downside was that when you left the cottage, it was difficult to see if traffic was coming in either direction, and a mirror would be very useful. Strongly recommended. Padstow only about 3 miles. There are plenty of good restaurants including Rick Stein's family restaurant in St Merryn. Very reasonable prices. Also recommend "The Journeyman" which is a short walk from Badger Cottage. This is an excellent Indian/Asian/English restaurant which holds only 18 diners. Every meal cooked from fresh by Steve. Open from 6-9pm Monday -Saturday. Booking essential.
Mr Forster
December 2004
The location of the cottage. Wonderful warm welcome by the owners. The peace and quiet. Beautiful local beaches.
Mr Johnson
December 2004
The cottage was very well placed for many attractions. The welcome we received was excellent with cream teas & wine on the table! The quality of fittings was far better than we had expected.
December 2009
The cottage was very clean and cosy, had a good layout for a family with small children. However we were four adults and the bunk beds in a small room which was an alternative connection of the bathroom to the lounge was well thought out but too small and claustrophobic for teenagers or adults. Location suited what we wanted, remote and quiet, but not for those who like to walk to the local amenities. Perfect for the dog though - she loved it.
April 2016
Still here at Easter 2016. This cottage is located in the quiet hamlet of Mellingey, 4 miles from the harbour town of Padstow. The cottage is a perfect size for a couple with young children, we have a daughter (11) and a son (5) and they were perfectly happy in the bunk beds. The cottage is well equipped for self catering with a good kitchen and large bathroom. It even has a washing machine that is very handy if you have kids like ours who insist on getting filthy at every opportunity. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. It is incredibly peaceful and relaxing, being able to watch the sheep, lambs and buzzards in the field in front of the house without any traffic noise anywhere is brilliant. Would we come again? Oh yes we have already rebooked for later this year. Fantastic!!!
Miss Foster
December 2004
Badger Cottage was in an ideal location close to Padstow and within walking distance of a small village. The property was lovely and clean and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful, even offering us a lift into Padstow for a night out. The bottle of wine after such a long (7 hour) journey was also a nice thought.
August 2014
Fantastic little cottage, well furnished and comfortable. Beautiful location, ideal for touring around Cornwall. Will definately go back again.
May 2013
The aim was to find a dog-friendly cottage not far from Padstow. The result - a human and dog friendly cottage nestled in a spot where the soundtrack was birdsong and the backdrop rolling woodland on part of The Saint's Way (footpath running from North to South across Cornwall). The central heating made it perfect for a chilly spring break and the owners were friendly and helpful whilst giving us space to do our own thing. Fabulous beaches and shops etc. equally a short drive away. Oh, and it was pretty handy for Padstow too!
December 2012
Whatever it means to be away from 'it all' - this is it. Of course you don't want to be away from this most beautiful area with it's amazing coastline, cycle tracks, old style cottages and friendly hospitality at every turn. The area is fantastic. A must if you've never done it - do it now or soon! The cottage is small but charming and though it has been well used we were able to relax in it and get our strength back for the following day's challenges which comprised walking, eating cream teas and watching the sea. Those beaches are among the best in the world but the fresh air takes it out of you and you get back to Badger cottage shattered but feeling so much better. The hosts welcome you with some goodies on the table which you find to your delight on arrival. The facilities are lovely and quiet and pretty site is a delight. We would always think of returning - if only to show others what they have missed. Just lovely - Go there soon!
