Barn Owl Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
Barn Owl Cottage is situated just 6 miles from Carmarthen and offers accommodation for 6 people. It boasts three bedrooms (two doubles and one twin) and a ground floor shower room. The living space is arranged in an open-plan style and there is a large garden in which you can enjoy a spot of alfresco dining. There is off road parking for 3 cars and the local pub is less than a mile away whilst only eight miles away is Pembrey Country Park Blue Flag Beach.

With beautiful rolling hills, a superb coastline, unique flowers and gardens, gold mines, some of Britain's best fishing, Carmarthen is a fantastic location to get away from it all. Locally, you can explore the beautiful Cambrian Mounts in the north of the county, to the majestic Black Mountain, and the national park at Brecon Beacons, and picturesque Tywi Valley in the east. For garden lovers, east of Llanarthne is situated the Welsh National Botanic Garden, which boasts the world's largest single-span glass house and Britain's most lengthy herbaceous border. The unusual Hywel Dda Gardens and Interpretive Centre located in the west of the county has six gardens, each representing a section of the legal world. For those interested in the history of welsh gold, the Dolaucothi Gold Mines on the hillside of the beautiful Cothi Valley conducts tours which describe the history and skills needed to pan gold, lectures about underground mining, and you can view gold on exhibition. Fresh water fishing abounds in the River Teifi with some of the world's best salmon, sea and brown trout fishing. Speed-freaks will enjoy Pendine Sands, where Malcolm Campbell broke three land speed records, and the nearby Pendine Museum of Speed has the vehicles he used on display.

Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

This is a really well run Cottage, the owners are totally committed to making sure you are well cared for. The Cottage itself is very comfortable, well maintained and the grounds are beautiful, as is the surrounding countryside which forms a wonderful, peaceful setting. It is also well located, with local amenities within easy reach. Would definitely return and recommend to others as it is suitable for both relaxing and those wanting access to activity based recreation in the area.
Mr Purser

We found the location to be very peaceful and the cottage very comfortable. The ground floor layout worked really well, especially the ground floor bedroom and wet room for our walking-disabled member. Our hosts were most welcoming and made us feel at home.
Mrs Merritt

From the moment we arrived, everything was excellent. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The cottage was immaculate and equipped with anything you could want. The garden and view were breathtaking and with the added bonus of a river to walk too. It was ideally situated for lots of places to visit. Would definitely like to stay there again.

Lovely location and a very warm welcome. Cottage was ideal and well presented. Liked the bird feeder outside the patio door and the constant attention of the woodpeckers.

June 2014
The accommodation was excellent and very well managed by the owners. We were made to feel at home as soon as we arrived and were taken round the cottage by the owner who made a point of showing us how things worked. The cottage was ideally situated for getting to the attractions that we had gone to see and for many more that we did not have time to visit. Definitely one of the best cottages we have stayed in. Will certainly visit again.
Mrs Clarke
July 2013
The owners are very friendly, nothing is to much bother for them, they make sure all is well with the cottage and any queries you may have. They were also very accommodating to me personally as I am on 24/7 oxygen and this needs to be delivered and taken away before I arrive and after I leave and they did this without any problems.

We must have stayed on 30+ self catering cottages. This, by a long way, was the best we have stayed in, let alone fantastic value for money. Of particular note, the host and hostess were very welcoming, sortied any issues in record time, but never intruded.
Mrs Pearson

On arrival the owners and their parents made us feel most welcome as they did throughout the holiday. There was a large selection of goodies in the welcome basket, something we both appreciated. For the whole fortnight the ambience of the place made us feel totally relaxed. When we left all of them were there to see us off and it felt like leaving friends we had known for years - a very memorable holiday. We wish them every success in their venture.

The cottage was the best I've stayed in. The owners had thought of everything. It was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and we got home every evening to find a newly built log fire, ready to light! The kitchen is extremely well equipped and all four adults and our 3-year old niece slept in cosy comfort.

The cottage location by the river was perfect. The cottage was beautifully clean and well furnished. It's far away enough from Carmarthen to feel isolated but has shops 10 minutes away. The owners were perfect hosts and went to a lot of trouble helping us with wildlife spotting. We received a very nice welcome gift and we really hope to return.

Barn Owl Cottage is well positioned in rolling welsh countryside with good views from the garden. Inside is comfortable and surprisingly light with the slitted stained glass windows. Carmarthen, beaches and attractions are easy to get to. The cottage has its own large garden and there is a nice walk down to the river. The owners were very helpful.

We wanted somewhere away from "it all" to just relax. Barn Owl cottage is just what you need to do this. The cottage is beautiful with everything you need and Debbie and Ian are exactly what you want - there when you need them, unobtrusive when you don't. A short walk to the river was also nice to have on your doorstep. Day trips out to plenty of things to do and see within easy reach, with fabulous views and scenery that make you go wow. Morrison's and Tescos within four miles for when you want to stock up on things. Quiet evenings in with gadgets switched off and playing board games was a nice way to just simply be a family relaxing. Wi-Fi was there for gadgets if needed, which the teenager we brought found a lifesaver!
October 2013
This is our second review on this amazing cottage. It has all you could want for and more. It is set in a beautiful, quiet and restful location but only a short distance from Carmarthen and within easy reach of many other places of interest. The owners, Debbie and Ian were fantastic - friendly, extremely helpful, proactive in all areas you could think of - it was like going to stay at a good friend's house! I would strongly recommend a stay at Barn Owl Cottage and would certainly hope to visit there again in the future.
Mrs. Wiegers-Fennis
December 2011
When we came it was a warm welcome: the cottage was nicely clean and warm and we got a nice basket with eegs, coockies, coffee ect. Also Debbie came in to welcome us. One or two times we asked for something and Ian came immediatly to give us explanation about the DVD recorder, though it was in the evening. We felt we were really welcome.
August 2013
A scenic, beautiful and peaceful setting combined with a luxuriously equipped cottage and thoughtful, charming hosts. As close to perfection you will ever find. The hosts of this gem truly make you feel at home and are very accommodating yet never intrusive. There is a splendid pub just down the country lane and Carmarthen is a short drive away. Splendid!!!
August 2013
Very peaceful location with a good old fashioned pub only a mile away. From the cottage all you could see was views - no roads, not traffic noise. Cottage was home from home and very tastefully equipped. Our first breakfast was boiled eggs with soldiers using eggs from the chickens on the farm left as part of the welcome. Debbie was brilliant. So helpful and full of extremely useful information, always on hand but never intrusive. Can't wait for an excuse to go to this part of the country again and return to Barn Owl Cottage.

This has to be the best holiday cottage that we have ever stayed in. The cottage is very well equiped, has a high standard of cleanliness and a welcome pack awaits you on arrival. The views from the cottage are stunning and for added peace and quiet, a walk to the river is a must. Ian and Debbie give you a very warm welcome and are the perfect hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We didn't want to go home. We will definately return one day.
