Beachcomber Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
This modern, well-presented cottage is a detached building in the small coastal village of Southerness. Well equipped and furnished to a high standard throughout, the property offers comfortable rooms. These include two double and two twin bedrooms, a fitted kitchen and a lounge with dining area. Patio doors open out onto the large decked area with hot tub, with wonderful views over the Solway Firth, and there's a large cottage garden. With off-road parking for up to three cars, this is an excellent place for a break with extended family or with friends.

Established in the late 18th century, the village of Southerness looks out over the Solway Firth and forms part of the Colvend coast. Home to two pubs and a village store, the seaside village also boasts two miles of sandy beaches with dunes, rock pools and warm Gulf Stream waters, as well as one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland. Built in 1748, this beacon was one of the first in the country. Nearby Criffel Hill is an impressive 569m tall and offers varied walks with wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary. The Southerness Championship Golf Course is definitely worth playing for its panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District and the Galloway Hills.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Electric central heating. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, TV, DVD player, video player, stereo/CD player, WiFi, library of books, games, DVDs and videos. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair available. Off road parking for 3 cars. Rear decked area with hot tub. Well established lawned garden with patio area, garden furniture and children's play items to rear, sun terrace to front. Two well-behaved dogs welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 5 mins walk.

Right on the beach with wonderful views and lots of things in the garden for children.
Mrs Couch
August 2010
The cottage was right on the beach with fabulous views. The children loved the garden with the swings, slides, play house, trampoline and sand (which was like our own private beach to dig in). We also had access to the pool room which had pool table, football table and darts to keep us entertained on rainy days. A beautiful cottage with everything you could want catered for. There were lots of lovely forest walks to do nearby and a lovely riding centre 15 mins away.
Mr Shields
November 2010
The close proximity to the coast was excellent for walking the dogs whenever we wanted and going out of season meant we practically had it to ourselves. The owner has thought of everything for the family or adult only holiday with a wide range of entertainment from books and DVD's to a fully equipped games room, trampoline and play area. Even the garden had a sand pit area if you want to keep them safe and close. A most relaxing holiday for the 4 adults and 2 dogs but would suit a holidaying family just as well.
Mr Gall

Beachcomber cottage was fantastic, great space, comfortable, very warm, and the views were exceptional. Ideal location for us to chill out before winter sets in and the space outside for dogs and children was great. We will definitely book the cottage again as ideal for dogs and grandchildren.

The facilities and location suited the children and the teenagers, as well as the adults. The beach right at the end of the garden was amazing, either to access directly, or sit and look out over the sands. The cottage itself was comfortable and well equipped and was very child friendly. The owner is a wonderful man, who couldn't do enough for us, what a character!

June 2015
To start with, what an amazing host the owner is. It was truly out of this world, my hubby and I had taken my mother, our daughter, two grandsons, nephew and our two tiny dogs with us. The boys especially didn't want to come home, they had the time of their lives! Anybody that reads this review, please don't hesitate to go here. The beach was fantastic and you are so close to it. We are already planning our next trip back, hopefully this year and if not, definitely next. Thanks again to the owner, a true gentleman.
Mrs Lenarcic

There were 8 of us here, two of which were children who barley spent any time in the house - they were in the garden and other play areas on the property. Amazing, we would definitely go back. Owner was lovely and helpful, but never intrusive to our time there. Feeling super relaxed now after our stay.

Beachcomber Cottage is absolutely perfect for a family holiday. There was lots for the kids to do at the house should the weather not be kind, but also a brilliant base from which to explore the area. The owner is warm and friendly and actively seeks feedback on how to make this wonderful cottage an even better place to stay. We can't recommend this house highly enough!

The cottage was warm and inviting, cosy and comfortable. The facilities were second to none. There were 4 generations and everyone said they would love to return. My 11 year old granddaughter loved the trampoline and bikes and being on the beach. All the family enjoyed dining al fresco. My Dad is 87 and he said he had never had such a relaxing time.

March 2011
The cottage is all you would want for a holiday and more. The rooms are very good, the kitchen excellent and the huge shower room and bath was more than sufficient. The extra toilet is a bonus. What can I say about the garden that nobody else has said. Perfect for young and old and being one of the latter even I was on the trampoline. The bar and pool room is a bit of genius. Had lots of good times in there darts, dominoes, pool bandit and even dancing. Have and will continue to do so, recommend it to many. Please continue the good work. Even the weather was perfect.
Mr Ingram

The cottage was a haven - incredibly comfortable and full of curiosities. Every detail had been considered by the owner and just about everything we could have needed was available. The personal touches of flowers and a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival were lovely. The beach beside the cottage was beautiful and we spent a good few hours walking along it. We had a wonderful romantic week by the sea.
