Bluebell Cottage description

Holiday home
This property is delightful and sits within walking distance of the shores of Loch Awe within the owner's grounds. There is a bright modern kitchen, a sitting room with a wood burner and the dining room has doors leading to a decked area. Accommodation is provided by three spacious bedrooms, an en-suite shower room and a family bathroom, and outside there is a decked area, large lawned terrace, garden furniture and barbecue. Set in the heart of the Kilmartin Glen is the village of Kilmartin. The Glen is one of the major prehistoric sites in Scotland, and within a six mile radius there are standing stones, the remains of an Iron-Age fort at Dunadd, rock carvings and burial cairns, making the region a fascinating area for history buffs. Kilmartin itself has a museum and visitor centre, two castles and a variety of shops providing all amenities for visitors. Eight miles away the town of Lochgilphead has a choice of cafes, craft shops, and other stores. Loch Awe is the longest inland loch in Scotland and there are some lovely walks around the loch and fishing is also available. This area is a super base to discover the joys of this stunning part of Scotland.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

The setting was wonderful, with incredible bluebells and trees for miles around the cottage. There were really lovely walks locally and the gardens of Arduaine and Crarae were at their best. The cottage overall was very comfortable and the wood burner is lovely in colder weather. The bird table attracts red squirrels and woodpecker as well as other birds.
Mrs Golding
August 2015
Beautiful, clean cottage, remote but very cosy. Extremely well equipped. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Definitely felt like a home from home and the wood burner was perfect for chilly nights. In such stunning surroundings, it was a perfect haven to explore the simple pleasures in life.

January 2015
Super little cottage, which was well furnished and maintained. So nice to lay in bed and listen to the burn gurgling at the bottom of the garden. The wood burner is fantastic and heated the whole house nicely in the evening, with plenty of logs provided by the owner.
Mr Walter
March 2014
The cottage was not only located in a very peaceful place, perfect for relaxing, but has also a very nice fire place. During the day, especially in the morning hours, we could watch lots of little birds and red squirrels eating some peanuts provided for them. Also, fishing was possible on a separate place of land and jet, that the owners are holding.
Mr Cheetham
October 2012
The many beautiful places in the area to see during the day, and the peace and cosiness of Bluebell Cottage in the evenings.
Mrs Berry

September 2013
A fantastic cottage, set in a lovely part of the world. The cottage is a good size, and the facilities are of a very respectable standard. The loch side jetty was perfect for all the family enjoy. The local walks and scenery are a joy to behold. The wood burner in the living area is great, and the array of birds and squirrels that are around are lovely.
Mrs Elliott
November 2013
The cottage was excellent. Loved the wood burner, and peaceful location. Very good, modern facilities. Although we have stayed in this area before, we enjoyed revisiting places e.g. Gigha, Loch Avich, Arduaine and finding new ones especially Kilmartin, Crinan Canal area. The Autumn colours around Loch Awe were beautiful.
Miss Gauld
September 2012

February 2012
Location of the cottage was fantastic, even better than the photos. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, comfortable and well equipped. The owners were very friendly, helpful and obviously cared that their guests had a comfortable stay - a bottle of wine and other basics available on arrival.
Mrs Millard

Bluebell cottage was well equipped, clean comfy beds, a cosy lounge, beautiful scenery - everything to make a good holiday. The welcome pack was a nice touch, very thoughtful. The owners were friendly and made us feel at home, we were sad when our holiday came to an end, but can't wait to return. It was simply great.

A really nice house with good facilities. If you get good weather the outdoor and Lochside areas that belong to the property would be a great benefit. A fantastic area with lots to do for a family with children at 9 and 11 years.
Ms Brereton
November 2011
Fantastic location, and the open log fire sold it for us. Free use of good quality mountain bikes, and offered free use of fishing boat. Excellent hosts who were the most helpful and friendly people, plus the regular top up of kindling logs for the fire. Would definitely return and would recommend to anybody.
Mr Savidge
September 2011
The cottage was of a superb quality accommodation and everything that was expected was there. The additional welcome package excelled.
Miss Lowe
September 2011
We could not fault the cottage in anyway. Perfect.
Mr Thompson
August 2011
Fantastic cottage, fantastic location. Owners go out of their way to make sure you have a great holiday. Fishing rods and the boat a major hit with the family. Their is also free access to bikes and you can hire an outboard motor for the boat at a very reasonable cost, great for picnics on the islands on the loch. Lots of interesting places to visit if you can tear yourself away from the loch.
Mrs Southward
August 2011
The cottage was lovely - what made it a great holiday was the access to the jetty, use of the fishing gear and boat provided by the owners. The boys loved fishing and we enjoyed sitting by the loch taking in the view! We have booked several holidays with Sykes over the years and they have all been great!
Mr Smith

The level of thought and attention to every detail that has been put into this property is exceptional. In over 30 years of renting holiday accommodation in Scotland, this is by far the best property we have ever enjoyed. We really cannot put into words enough praise for the property, location, amenities and helpful owners.

The remoteness of the dwelling, the scenery wildlife, especially the red squirrel (more deer than we could photo). The owner couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, the boat on the Loch was great, and the logburner!

July 2014
Spent a week here, last week in June 2014. Weather was good; except for the 'midges' but that was a minor irritation. It's quite a long drive down a single track road, alongside the loch, to reach there but the cottage is well worth it. The cottage is well laid out, spacious and comfortable. Owner's property overlooks the place but apart from a visit from Simone when we arrived they did not bother us at all. There are no really 'local shops', nearest is about 7 - 10 miles away, so you need to go prepared for the first day or so. The area is beautiful and enjoyed several days out whilst there. One downside for me was the lack of an internet connection at the property and out of our party of 4 I was the only one who had no trouble with mobile phone signal (Vodafone). That said I would recommend the cottage to anyone.
Mr Lawless
November 2008
Great break and great cottage.
Mr Kirby
October 2008

April 2008

October 2013
Cottage was well equipped with every amenity you would need. Electric heating, etc was reasonably priced. The beds and pillows were the best I have ever slept in apart from my own. The journey from the main road at each end was a 13 mile nightmare down a single track road with bends and no lighting, which made night time driving a nightmare, and a good 20mins. The most dissapoointing aspect was that from the websites pictures I was expecting the Loch and the Jetty to be the views from the cottage. This was not so as the jetty was a 1/2 mile down the road, and the views were of 2 other cottages at the front and the woodland from the back.
Mr Wilson
May 2008
This property is in excellent condition. The cottage has a nice setting on the hill adjacent to the loch. Welcome pack was first class. I will use you again!
Mr Moss
May 2008
What else can we say about perfection? Everything about this holiday more than lived up to our expectations. The best welcome pack i have ever seen. One of the most enjoyable holidays we've had. Highly recommended.
January 2012
A perfect well proportioned immaculate cottage in an amazing setting. Peacefull and private. Owners couldn't have been anymore helpful or friendly, they catered for all our needs and were really lovely people. We stayed for 1 week and did a lot of walking & some cycling using the excellent mountain bikes offered free of charge by the owners. The log fire was superb with plenty of logs & kindling available throughout our stay. We were also provided with wild bird seed for the bird table and it was great to watch the wild birds feeding while we ate breakfast. Would love to keep this amazing place a secret but that would not be fair to others so please give this cottage a go, you will not be disappointed and you will be wanting to return as we are.
December 2012
Bluebell cottage was mostly as described with one real draw back the brochure did not give the impression that the cottage was 5 miles down a track with poor road surface putting at least 1/2 hour extra on any journey from the cottage to a main road. I have already written to you reference this and had no reply. however that said the cottage was clean, warm and relaxing and would be suited to a family wishing to do outdoor pursuits.
December 2011
Wonderful cottage, well kept spacious. Wonderful wood burner keeping us warm as toast in the chilly evenings. Warm welcome by owners nothing too much bother kept us well stocked with wood. chickens came down to cottage to see us every morning for breakfast, scenery was wonderful and no two days were ever the same. Local hotels and pubs very welcoming warm friendly locals, lots to see and doif you want to go out but plenty of pleasant walks near by if you want to stay close to house and just chill
August 2011
This is by far the best cottage we have stayed in in Scotland. The cottage is very spacious and clean in a very quiet and tranquil area. The owners were great, they let us know they were available if needed. One of the good features can also be a disadvantage its very isolated down a very winding single track road, 15 miles in one direction and 9 in the other. If you have good weather and want to spend time around the cottage and the loch you couldn't find a better cottage, but if you want to explore the local area everywhere is a long drive away and the single track road becomes a little tiresome. We had a car breakdown and the closest car rental that would deliver the car was in Edinburgh so it took 2 days to arrive. One tip is to ensure you have a Vodafone or an O2 (not as good) as there is very poor phone reception. A great cottage if you like quiet but a little too isolated for us.
August 2011
a superb cottage in a slightly remote place with great owners just next door. Excellent facilities. If the weather had been better we could have just sat in the lovely garden all day.
Anna, Matt and Suzi
February 2011
Despite the bad weather we had a wonderful time. Beautiful surroundings and breathtaking views. The cottage was spotless and had excellent facilities. The owners couldn't have been more helpful, bringing us fresh wood every day for the woodburner and even offered some of their food when the snow got really bad!!! We will be back!
May 2011
The whole setting was perfect for a restfull getaway , the cottage was clean, cosy & had everything required. The scenery was stunning & would deffinately be booking again.
Jennifer Sykes
January 2011
We loved the cottage and surrounding area. The cottage had everything we needed. The owners Ian & Simone were extremely nice and very helpful. The only "bad" thing would be howw far away from everything the cottage is.We ended up getting a flat tire and because the cottage was so far from Glasgow the rental company couldn't get any one to us. For 4 days we were stuck at the cottage, considering it was our honeymoon that wasn't a bad thing, but we didn't really get to explore Scotland like we had hoped.
July 2011
Freindly and very helpful owners. Beautiful and spotless cottage. Boat and cycles made the holiday and extra's like wine and flowers on arrival. The cottage is half way along the side of Loch Awe so this does been a 10 mile dive either way but with the fantastic views you can't complain.
November 2010
The cottage was lovely, very quiet and comfortable. We liked the welcome touches - wine, biscuits, flowers etc. and the owners were very friendly and helpful. Our only minor criticism would be there was nowhere to hang towels in the ensuite - there is an ideal area behind the door for a towel rail and hooks on the backs of the doors would have been good. The area was wonderful with many places of interest to visit and great walks from the door. Overall an excellent week - somewhere we would love to re-visit at some point. We have recommended the cottage to friends who have already booked !
December 2009
An immaculate, well appointed, spacious yet cozy highland hideaway in the middle of beautiful nowhere. Surroundings are delightful and previous heavy rains had turned the burn at the bottom of the garden into a whitewater cascade. Brilliant! Simone (the owner) was very helpful, but did not interfere in any way. The log burner was teriffic and kept me occupied every evening. The cottage is also well appointed for anyone in the party is disabled, having extra wide doors and a ramp to the front door, though there is no drop-down handrail by the loo so you might want to take your own floor standing frame if you need such a thing.
February 2010
The holiday was more than we could ever of hoped it would be. The cottage was warm and welcoming as were the owners. The scenery was picturesque. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to step back from a busy life and appreciate the good things life can offer.
December 2009
We had a lovely time and particularly appreciated them letting us use their equipment for fishing and boating on the loch.
Joy & Ian
December 2009
The cottage was everything we hoped for & more. Very spacious, well equipped, new, clean, tidy. Fantastic location. The use of the boat with engine was a bonus. The tuition prior to use was very good. The owners were very friendly, nothing to was too much for them to do. The walks in the area were great. Very good location for fishing and photography. We have recommended this location to several friends. We will stay here again soon.
