Bluebell Cottage description

Bluebell Cottage was built in the early 19th Century and is reputedly the oldest in Bantry.
Ten years ago we renovated it and fitted new doors, floors, roof and windows while retaining as much as possible of the original character.

There are wood floors throughout and a large kitchen diner to seat 6. The kitchen has a dishwasher, oven, hob, washing machine, tumble dryer and Stanley traditional range cooker. The cosy but spacious living room will seat six and has a coal/log fire. The futon sofa will convert to a single bed.

There are three bedrooms, two double and one single. The single bedroom is accessed through one of the double bedrooms. The bathroom has a large cast iron bath and a shower.

All the bedrooms have pleasant views of the countryside of West Cork. Outside there is a large, attractive patio and upstairs is a roof terrace with views over Bantry and the surrounding West Cork countryside. There is a single garage for one car. and parking by the side of the house.

Bantry is a small coastal town in West Cork, with a lovely harbour and beach within ten minutes walk from the house. There is a raised walkway which now makes it possible to walk around the bay even when the tide is in. The coast and countryside around here is stunningly beautiful.

The Sheep's Head, Mizen Head and Beara Peninsulas, with their villages, inlets and beaches are a short drive away.
There are wonderful hill walks through dramatic landscapes and passes, and quiet country lanes around the Borlin and Mealagh Valleys, which are ideal for cycling and horse riding. Numerous literary and music festival are held in the Bantry area during July and August Bantry House and its lovely gardens and dramatic views of the bay is open all year Fresh fish and Bantry Bay mussels and prawns are for sale in the town.

Golfing, fishing and pony trekking are all nearby. Bantry has a lively market on Friday where everything from fresh vegetables to live animals to second-hand tools and furniture are sold.

Spent a week in Bluebell Cottage this summer. Excellent, top quality accommodation. Very comfortable, clean with all the mod cons. Brilliant location, 5 minute walk into Bantry town and great vantage point for exploring West Cork, Wild Atlantic Way and Beara Peninsula etc. Would highly recommend this house to anyone planning on staying in Bantry.

My girlfriend and I stayed in this beautifully restored cottage (about an hour and a half by rented car from Cork airport ) in October 2010. It’s an idyllic spot for a getaway week or long weekend and we loved every minute of our time spent in it.

We had a lovely time in the cottage, and also really enjoyed the bottle of wine Robert left for us. The weather was very changeable, a general feature, I imagine, but we did have quite a bit of sunshine overall, and really enjoyed the roof terrace at lunchtime - it's a great feature. The log fire is a real feature too, and we really enjoyed it on those slightly chilly evenings. My husbandd even taught me how to build a fire! We went on some lovely walks. Bantry is a great place for that, and is just a nice size of town to be convenient without being too big. After our departure, Robert noticed I'd left my sandals behind, and was kind enough to post them back to me. Over all we were thrilled with our holiday.
