Bluebell Cottage Countryside Cottage description

Holiday home
Bluebell Cottage is situated on the outskirts of Henstridge village – a small rural settlement on the border between Dorset and Somerset. As one of three holiday homes, this charming single storey mid terrace offers a stylish open-plan living-area, one double bedroom and a luxurious wet room with shower. Local amenities such as the village shop, pubs, restaurants and café are all within easy walking distance, though for a wider variety of establishments, the historic town of Sherborne is also close by, making this a great location for your holiday, no matter what time of year.

Used as the backdrop to Thomas Hardy's ‘Tess of the D'Urbervilles', the lush Blackmore Vale is also home to the little village of Henstridge, situated on the border of Somerset and Dorset. Henstridge itself has a village shop, pubs, restaurants and a café. It also offers lovely walks accompanied by fine views in the glorious countryside. The historic town of Sherborne is just a short drive away and was once home to the famous Sir Walter Raleigh. The National Trust operates a number of properties in the area such as Stourhead House and Gardens whilst the cathedral city of Salisbury, Stonehenge, Bath and The Dorset Heritage Coast are all in the near vicinity. This is a great base from which to explore Somerset and Dorset.

Somerset offers 3 areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Quantock, Mendip and Blackdown Hills. Lose yourself in the glory of nature, take a ride on a steam train, visit a traditional farmers' market or explore your mystical side at Glastonbury.

Bluebell Cottage was an excellent venue for our family holiday. Well situated for day trips out to Somerset, Dorset or Wiltshire. The accommodation was clean and modern with the character feel you want from a country cottage.

Comfortable warm and near lots of areas of great interest, coastal and country. Very pleased with our second Sykes holiday this year, one more to go. Weather wasn't good so it was especially nice to have 'our' cottage to come back to each day. Home from home.
Mrs Domakin
September 2012
The cottage was central to visit the sites of Dorset and Somerset. A great deal of thought had been given to make the cottage comfortable and homely, particularly the night lights which we found to be essential.

The cottage was warm and comfortable. It was in a very quiet setting and parking was easy and convenient. Owner gave us good information re local 'hostelries' to eat in.
December 2009
This was our second visit to the Bluebell Cottage.Need we say more. The attention we received from Mr Curtis made us feel very welcome. The Cottage was just as excellent as it was on our previous visit. The furnishings had been replaced, which made us feel the owner cared. The location was a bit isolated but this did'nt deter us, for there was plenty of eating houses and shops within a half a dozen miles. The coast was about an hours drive away. The cottage was fully equipped, with milk and tea, coffee to welcome us. Parking was not 100%, but it was not an issue

A great base for touring Dorset and Somerset, particularly Hardy country. Beautifully clean, comfortable cottage for two. Well equipped.
January 2011
Bluebell cottage was a lovely place to hide away from the world for a peaceful break. The free wifi was great as I wanted a quiet place to study and relax. Also lots of things to do nearby - I went quadbiking, mountain biking, walking, running and really enjoyed the beautiful countryside in the area. Walking distance to a nice local pub and good indian restaurant, but you will need a torch! Udder Farm shop and cafe just up the road is excellent. If you are a National Trust member check the opening times of local properties - Stourhead is open all year but most of the others close in the winter.

June 2009
It was a delightful cottage with comfy furniture and fully kitted out kitchen so no compromise on what you could cook. Nice patio with chair and table and sun umbrella, much appreciated as it was a little suntrap. Nicely secluded!
Mr Foster
October 2008
An excellent conversion from the previous milking parlour. Nothing spared to make the holiday perfect.
January 2012
the service in itself was no problem. The home in itself was no problem. Location was ideal for us, amenities were as expected. Liked best was cottage in general. Liked least was the bed, mattress very uncomfortable; had to descale the kettle before use; lack of shelf by the shower to put bottles on.
December 2009
The owners were very welcoming and gave good advice on local eating places. There were excellent facilities including a washing machine and dryer available. The cottage was very comfortable and tastefully decorated. The cottage is in the country however it is easy to find and close to a good range of excellent pubs. It is between Sherborne and Shaftesbury both interesting towns to visit. I liked the quiet location it enabled me to switch off completely and relax. The least thing I liked was the weather - it did rain most of the week - but that is an English summer !
