Chirgwin Cottage description

Holiday home
Chirgwin Cottage is a 17th Century fisherman's cottage located right beside the 12th Century harbour at Newlyn between Penzance and Mousehole in Cornwall. With two double bedrooms, one single and a family bathroom, this cottage can sleep five people. Also within the cottage is a fitted kitchen with a gas AGA and a dining area and a first floor sitting room with spectacular views over the harbour across Mount's Bay to St Michael's Mount. Outside the cottage is a shared rear courtyard with a private garden and covered area with furniture in the cottage's old net loft. Superbly located in the centre of a gorgeous, Cornish fishing village, Chirgwin Cottage is a real taste of Cornwall.

Newlyn is a lovely harbour village on the Cornish coast, between Mousehole and Penzance. Working fishing fleet still land their catch from the harbour, which makes for fascinating viewing on a morning stroll. St Michael's Mount can be seen rising from the waters in the distance, and a trip over the causeway to this famous landmark is a must. The Cornish coastal path runs close to Newlyn, and walkers can enjoy a host of interesting wildlife and plant species, as well as stunning views. There are great beaches in the area, and Mounts Bay offers a variety of watersports. With the Tate at St Ives, The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan within easy reach, this is a wonderful holiday destination.

Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.

Chirgwin Cottage was well-situated, with excellent views. The property had lovely, authentic features. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, and would recommend this cottage to anyone who likes character in their accommodation.

There were stunning views from the property and easy access to public transport.

The cottage itself is cosy and warm with enough space to relax after a day of exploring the harbour it overlooks. The cooking and eating facilities are adequate for an average sized family with all the mod cons that are required for modern living. The bedrooms are quaint and very comfortable and again, a good size for an average size family. Living room is very spacious and great for sitting and watching the boats come and go in the harbour. Away from the cottage, Newlyn and Penzance have many amenities, very friendly locals and the promenade is very relaxing, strolling along the picturesque seaside.

This cottage has a homely, cosy feel to it. The aga warms the kitchen up, and I enjoyed heating water for cups of tea on it. The views across Mounts bay are spectacular. The bed was comfortable. Lots of books provided about Newlyn, which were interesting. Within walking distance of Mousehole. A very relaxing holiday.

A warm welcome, everything we needed. Excellent number of books. Best views in Cornwall of Newlyn Harbour and Bay. Bus outside door every half hour. Personal contact with owner, who helped when daughter locked herself out of cottage. We also liked the red AGA! I would return again and again. Excellent.

We loved our stay at Chirgwin Cottage. It was convenient, it was very comfortable and had easy access to everywhere we wanted to get to i.e. buses and shops etc. We loved the situation opposite the little harbour and the changing scene it brought. The AGA stove in the kitchen warmed the whole house! The cottage had a lot of character.

The location of the property was excellent, all amenities nearby and able to access the coastal path from the door. A bus stop practically outside the cottage was useful too. The views of the harbour were lovely. A warm, cosy, welcoming property. Perfect and the weather perfect too!

A quirky and well located cottage. If you have never used an AGA cooker it is fun learning. All facilities were as described, we an recommend the bed in the largest bedroom

Ideal location. Quirky property largely unspoilt by modernisation.

I had a wonderful time staying at Chirgwin cottage, the house made the holiday very special and one I will always remember. We came with a group of friends and it was great for that. Very well equipped with everything you need. Comfortable, nicely furnished with lovely views of the harbour. Good locaton close to local shops and pubs but still away from the hustle and bustle. We loved walking from Newlyn to Mousehole along the coast. The Red Lion is a nice friendly local pub with nice food. It's also a good location for Penzance, Land's End and other popular Cornwall tourist areas. I would recommend a visit to Prussia Cove (a short drive away, the other side of Penzance) it's so beautiful there.
April 2013
We love West Cornwall, but now have extra happy memories of it following our stay in Chirgwin Cottage. The views across Mounts Bay from the sitting room are wonderful, and the cottage has a homely feel, made especially cosy by the brillaint red aGa. We will definatly be booking again.

Sykes Holiday Cottages cannot be faulted for their customer care...felt I had known the ladies I talked to for years!!! The cottage was delightful with the most amazing sea view across Marazion bay. Sitting in the window seat with a glass of wine watching the sun go down was bliss. Walking distance of Penxance and Mousehole, and Newlyn had everything we needed for everyday living. The only thing I would say is that the stairs were extremely steep, and as the kitchen is on the ground floor and the sitting room is on the first floor, had to be negotiated regularly. For someone less agile it would prove to be a problem. Apart from that couldn't fault the cottage.
