The ancient city boasts a magnificent castle and a world-class cathedral. Thanks to its enchanting gothic architecture, the cathedral was used as the setting of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Other points of interest in the vicinity include the Beamish Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne, the Metrocentre, Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland, Derwent Reservoir, and Alston which is the highest market town in England. The villages of Wolsingham and Stanhope are nearby, at 3 miles away. If you’re willing to go further afield, take a day trip to the Lake District, Northumbria and Hadrian’s Wall.
