Creagh Dhu Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Creagh Dhu is a lovely welcoming semi-detached cottage in a rural location just outside Ratlinghope village, near the Stiperstones and Long Mynd, 7 miles from Church Stretton. There is a king-size double bedroom and a second bedroom which can be offered as a twin or a super king-size double. Downstairs is a welcoming open plan living area with kitchen, pantry, dining area and sitting area, and a Clearview woodburning stove. Outside, along with off road parking for two cars, is a front garden area with decking, furniture and fine views. With the Shropshire countryside on the doorstep, Creagh Dhu makes a wonderful year-round retreat for walkers, couples or families alike.

Church Stretton is a pretty market town in the heart of rural south Shropshire. Described as "Little Switzerland", the town is surrounded by stunning scenery and is the major part of Shropshire's hill country. The town offers a good selection of pubs, tearooms, and specialist shops, as well as other attractions including fantastic walking opportunities on the Long Mynd; the fascinating Acton Scott Working Farm, and the ancient Stokesay Castle. Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bishops Castle are all historic local towns with much to offer to visitors, and they are all an easy drive away from Church Stretton, as are the beautiful Welsh Borders.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Electric central heating on first floor with woodburner in living area. Cooking range with gas double oven, 5 ring gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer inc. ice and chilled water dispenser, washing machine, dishwasher. Off road parking for 2 cars (one under carport). Enclosed front gravelled garden with decking, garden furniture, BBQ and spectacular hill views. One well-behaved pet welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Fantastic cottage with views never equalled on a any holiday we have had before. Have found Sykes the best by far of all the agencies we have used, with your attention to detail and helpful staff.

The views from the cottage were spectacular, the log fire was a bonus and the large screen to project films and TV was excellent.

Great views and nice accommodation. This a great starting point from which to explore Shropshire. The TV/home cinema set up is a really unusual feature in a holiday cottage which we really enjoyed using for both TV and DVDs.

Quiet location with superb views from the cottage. We would like to stay at this cottage again.

The location is perfect, so scenic and peaceful. The cottage is very well equipped, incredibly tastefully decorated and is probably less like a holiday cottage and more like a home as it has such a warmth to it. I was in no hurry to leave it to return to my home.

The location of the cottage was excellent with panoramic views from every window. The cottage was well equipped with everything that you needed. It was certainly a cottage that we would return to as it was so relaxing.

Loved the setting of the cottage, the scenery around was stunning. The cottage was very comfortable and welcoming and the bed was so comfy! We had a dog so having the garden enclosed was a great asset to the cottage. There are neighbours but they were very friendly and it didn't spoil our holiday in any way having them around.

Amazing location. Fantastic views and a lovely hamlet. Couldn't bear to use the TV much as it obscured the view. Would imagine it's the perfect antidote to a cold rainy day though - luckily we had none of those! Really enjoyed watching the Buzzards from the deck. The area is wonderful for walking. Stiperstones, Long Mynd particularly good walks. The pub at Bridges serves excellent beer and good food - plus is an energetic walk back so you feel you've deserved it! We were able to buy fresh eggs and also Goat's milk cheese from the smallholder next door.

In a fantastic, quiet, rural location with lovely views of the nearby hills.

A delightful remote cottage, wonderful for those who enjoy walking, the fire and indoor cinema were added bonuses. There are two other occupied cottages next door, but otherwise the cottage is rather isolated, no phone signals but excellent WiFi. Shropshire is a stunning county and Shrewsbury an interesting and beautiful town as is Ludlow, both of which are about 25 minutes drive away. The kitchen in this cottage is extremely well equipped.

A superb barn conversion to a particularly high standard! The log burner was more than sufficient to heat the whole property. The kitchen was wonderfully equipped with quality fittings not too complicated to use. Comfort was second to none, sumptuous sofa, chairs and bed. Plenty of literature on surrounding area. Spotlessly clean!

Loved the remote location and the views. The kitchen is very well equipped, and I loved the range cooker. Sofas were also comfortable and particularly welcoming after a long walk!

Beautiful cottage, outstanding location and scenery blissfully quiet.

September 2013
The property is truly home from home, very well furnished, everything to a high standard. The cottage is located in a completely unspoilt area where the only noise is the sound of the sheep, cockerel and turkey. Lovely views 360 degrees around the property. The added bonus of a full home cinema system was great for watching movies. Some great walks and bike rides on the doorstep, horse riding nearby and a safari park and kids wonderland not too far away.

The accommodation was very clean and modern. The lounge was very comfy and the large cinema type TV screen was excellent with surround sound. The best feature of the property is the location and it's stunning views - you can walk out straight to superb views from the local Stiperstones. A gem of a location.
Mrs Mansford

We were thoroughly happy with all aspects of the cottage and the welcome tray of drinks was a nice surprise, even more so as it included a bottle of wine, with which we toasted our week to come whilst awaiting the arrival of our pre-ordered Tesco delivery. This was the perfect week away from the day to day repetition and drudgery of city life. I'm sure we will be doing it again!

August 2014
A cosy and well equipped cottage. Cheese, milk and eggs available from the small holder next door. The most stunning thing about this holiday let is the location. Amazing views in all directions and great walking from the door. A fantastic base to discover a beautiful area from. The beer at the nearest pub is fabulous, can't drink too much as it's a fair stroll uphill to get home. We will be back
October 2016
A wonderful, relaxing place to stay and unwind . The views from the house and garden are spectacular. Walks from the house, onto the Stiperstones answer Shropshire Way. Would definitely recommend .

Fantastic scenery, friendly neighbours. What a TV screen - amazing!
December 2012
Very comfortable cottage which is well equipped. Good kitchen, super home cinema and brilliant views of the Stiperstones. Loads of very peaceful and gentle walks from the cottage/within a few miles. More goats, turkeys, sheep and llamas than people. Good pub food nearby. Seems a little known gem of an area. One small minor point, the drive to the property is a bit rough.

We booked this cottage fairly last minute and needed to find somewhere that allowed pets. Having booked everything on line, it was a simple process and directions and instructions followed shortly afterwards. We wanted something quiet and out of the way and we certainly got it. The cottage looked quite dramatic as we approached it and once inside, we couldn't believe our luck. The decor and furnishings surpassed our expectations. The welcome tray was very handy and even had a bottle of vino to let us chill out with whilst awaiting the Tesco delivery booked on line a few days before we arrived. As a party of 2 adults and 2 16 year old boys, the home cinema system proved a hit with everyone. The cottage is ideally suited to go out walking on anything from 3 miles to 14 miles and all starting and ending either at the cottage, or the local (and only) pub. We highly recommend the goats cheese and quails eggs off the smallholder behind the cottage. Take your walking boots, a day sack, a good book and an energetic Labrador and you have all the ingredients for a great week. (Oh! And a showerproof jacket for the weather on the hills.)

Difficult to find but well worth the effort. Climbing up the steep and winding road from to Bridge Inn you eventually turn off onto a rough track going downhill and there is Greagh Dhu. On entering the cottage we really were very impressed. Very clean, wood burning stove, a kitchen eqipped with everything you could want and a comfortable lounge complete with home cinema. Bedrooms were similarly very comfortable. The views from the house were just stupendous and we couldn't stop looking out of the windows. To enjoy Creagh Dhu you have to like being remote (nearest shop 2 ml, nearest pub 1.5 ml) but we loved it. While we were there there was a lot of rain but it didn;t seem to make any difference to our enjoyment - sometimes we went out and sometimes we just stayed in. Overall a very enjoyable week and I suspect we will return.
December 2012
A stunning cottage in a fantastic location. Well furnished and very comfortable. Beautiful views from the cottage. Could not have asked for a better cottage and location for a relaxing week. Plenty to see and do in the area. Home cinema system fantastic and a wonderful wood burner.
