Ddol Helyg Barn Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Situated in the grounds of the owner's 30-acre livery yard is this elegant stone-built barn conversion which comes with eco-friendly solar-powered under floor heating. A comfortable, spacious and airy property, this extensive conversion is able to accommodate up to 14 people. Superbly appointed throughout, the property combines modern elegance with original features blended seamlessly throughout. There is also a patio garden area, ensuring that visitors can make the most of the warm summer days outside. The onsite Piggery Pottery Workshop provides a fun way to be creative, whilst the whole of the Snowdonia National Park is available from the doorstep. There are a number of great castles in the area, as well as a variety of stunning beaches making this an incredibly diverse spot.

Situated in the foothills of the Snowdonia Mountain Range, Llanrug is a small village with two pubs and a shop just three miles from the famous town of Llanberis. Popular amongst walkers, this tranquil settlement is set beneath the Snowdon Massif and flanked by the Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris lakes. As one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park, Llanberis is an ideal spot for walkers and climbers to gather, particularly during the annual Snowdon marathon. For the less energetic holidaymaker, trains travel to the summit at regular intervals giving those unable to climb to the peak a chance to enjoy the incredible views. Back in the town itself there are a number of excellent places to eat and drink as well as a great choice of shops.

Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

Stayed here for my 60th birthday celebrations with my husband, children and grandchildren. We had a fantastic time - the barn was amazing, really spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Tea, coffee, milk, sugar, bara brith and welsh cakes were provided on arrival (a lovely touch) and, as soon as I met Barbara, the owner, I knew we had come to a very special place. Nothing was too much trouble and being able to go into Piggery Pottery for an evening, once it was closed to the public, was absolutely brilliant! All of us came away with something special we had made. We would definitely come back to stay here - a truly amazing holiday. Thank you Barbara!

Plenty of space for the family to be together but still have own space if they wanted it. Location was excellent with plenty on offer in the surrounding area. Friendliness of the owner who was more than willing to accommodate our requests, eg grandchildren visiting animals on farm. Great idea having pottery available as well. Children had great time painting pigs!

The property has the 'WOW' factor! The space, light and layout lends itself well to family living. The owner and potter, was extremely helpful and we had many happy hours in the workshop and enjoyed the personal tour. It's location is a great launch pad to other locations with just a short journey to the coast or mountains. Having the option of creative recreation and refreshment on site makes this a unique option, one we would choose again!

The Barn was amazing! Very comfortable for 14 adults; plenty of space. A lovely location for walks, easy parking, we took the dogs with us for their first holiday and the Barn is great and dog friendly; an enclosed area at the back to let them out last thing at night. The owner was also very helpful. The Farmhouse is next door and with the Barn could easily take 28 members; superb to get together with family and friends.

Lots of space for everyone. We were there over the New Year period and found the sitting room an excellent size for playing games! The kitchen was a lovely place to sit and eat at the end of each day and discuss our activities. The location was excellent and the owners were very helpful without being intrusive. I would also advise anyone staying at Ddol Helyg to have a go at painting a pig! We would love to return.

14 of us congregated to celebrate my mum's 60th. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The barn was perfect for us: tons of space, well equipped and a great location between Llanberis for Snowdon and Canaerfon for castles and cream teas :) However, what really made our stay was our host, Barbara. Thank you Barbara for being so kind, thoughtful and funny! Our kids adored you...and the rest of us thought you're pretty great too. Barbara runs the barn, farmhouse, livery and a wonderful pottery cafe 'Piggery Pottery' well as painting really beautiful and distinctive paintings in her 'spare time'! We had great fun throwing a pot on Barbara's potter's wheel, and also painting keepsakes which will be a lovely reminder of a perfect holiday. This was such an unexpected bonus when our Great British weather wasn't so great. Can't recommend this highly enough for families and big groups.

Spacious accommodation, generally furnished to a high standard, and boasting an extremely well equipped (huge) kitchen. Some very minor issues e.g. some missing remotes for bedroom TVs, slightly tired bedding, but picking holes really. Have rarely stayed in such a beautiful rental. Beds are memory foam and extremely comfortable, some traffic noise on weekday mornings but you quickly acclimatise. Great location, and only a couple of minutes walk to the pub! Piggery pottery next door is a delightful bonus on rainy days, and the owner has been very helpful, accommodating and easy to contact. Would definitely stay again - at off-peak rates this is an exceptional bargain.

We planned a surprise 70th birthday holiday for our parents. Barbara was ever so helpful with all our requests to ensure we had a successful break. The barn is beautiful. 5 good size bedrooms, all ensuite: room 1 is the downstairs double. room 2 has 2 sets of bunk beds and a nightlight. Room 3 is a twin. Room 4 a double (both upstairs via the staircase in the lounge). Room 5 is accessed via the staircase in the kitchen... the room is huge, with a jacuzzi bath in the ensuite and beautiful views. The workmanship is evident in the barn...quality oak staircases etc. We had an amazing week and would go back...great location to get to lots of places of interest. Food in the local pub is fab...huge portions!! We loved our holiday.
August 2016
Booked 14 family members for the wifes 60th. All three generations catered for. Barbera was friendly and made us all feel welcome. The kids loved the space and the Jacuzzi bath.

A group of 10 female friends had the barn for the weekend and we had a marvelous time. We were welcomed with welsh cakes an bara brith, tea coffee and fresh flowers! The barn is laid out well with plenty of places for wet coats, walking boots and a comfortable lounge for a large group. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you very much.

I would recommend the property for large parties and families of mixed ages and abilities . Its very spacious and all rooms having an ensuite is a real bonus. The large dinning table was great for meal times too. The location is an excellent base for exploring using your own transport. Barbara was very hospitable and was there only when needed.
November 2012

We visited for a family weekend away where we celebrated my 30th birthday. We rented Ddol Helyg farm house also as we had a large party of 20 people ranging from age 6 to 83! We also took our dogs which the house was great for, with wooden heated floors throughout! This accommodation was modern and had all the facilities and everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, bowls, cups serving dishes and abled us to cook a roast dinner for all of the party. The lounge was very spacious and great that everyone could get a seat while relaxing round the wood burner and playing games with the children. The house catered for everything and having a ground floor double bedroom with en-suite was great for a relative who had a broken ankle and couldn't make the stairs! Overall this is an amazing modern house in a great location and I would definitely not hesitate to recommend it to families. The owner Barbara was very friendly and allowed us to stay in piggery pottery after closing where all the family(adults included) painted pots and other pottery! I hope we can visit again sometime. Please see my review on the Ddol Helyg Farm House if you have a large party.

July 2013
A very well appointed barn conversion, ideal for our extended family of 9 giving both space and comfort with a great separation of eating from relaxing and sleeping; stars were master bedroom and lounge. The bonuses were a pottery for the kids (and adults!) to test their skills and a walk to a lovely river across fields. The owner was friendly and very helpful immediately sorting out any little problems. Ideal location for easy access to mountains, beaches, castles and railways. Excellent value for money
January 2014
I stayed in this beautiful house for 3 nights with 10 of my friends! The house was perfect for what we wanted. It is a perfect size, the rooms were very nice, and the overall experience was very good. The pottery place was very fun and cheap too! I would highly recommend this to anyone from families to a group of friends. Very very good weekend!
July 2010
Everything about the house and area was excellent. The pottery on site was an added bonus. The owner very helpful. Lots to see and do in the surrounding areas especially for walkers.
August 2011
found the property very good for a large party very good value for money.the hosts were very welcoming and dealt with any problems quickly.we were very impressed with the pottery, and can't thank Barbara enough for allowing full access after hours,so we could try and make things for presents etc.there were always plenty of excursions during the day to more than fill the time. all in all a very good property to rent, and would certainly recommend a visit if in north Wales.
April 2010
on arrival we thought the barn was fantastic it is beautiful the owners should be proud, but unfortunatley the cleanliness was not what it should be.the two cookers and microwave were not clean and we found dishes in the cupboard dirty which was a real shame to say the least.also on top of that there were two seperate occasions where 6 of us had to finish our shower in cold water because the hot had run is a lovely place though and very spacious.. but to improve it the owners should check it over when the cleaners are done
